Near by Janesville was home to the oldest General Motors plant with a peak employment of 7,000. The plant was massive. Last week I walked the entire perimeter of the former plant, it's very much like walking through a cemetery. Many towns would have died losing an employer of this size with good pay jobs; but Janesville is bouncing back. A testament to the strong, Midwest work ethic.

Grew up in Rockford and spent way too many weekends partying in Beloit when the drinking age was still 18. A long list of great bars that are no longer around. Prime Time/Le Club, City Limits, College Inn, Pier 44, Ironworks, Pulaski's Lounge, Club 88, Waverly Beach, Pitcher's Mound. Just to name a few.

Up until a few years back, I used to meet fellow vintage boaters in Beloit, usually around early August. Great times. We'd show our boats on the parking lot of a restaurant called The Rock on the river, then run our boats up & down it. I always felt real comfortable spending the weekend in Beloit. Most of us met thru to an internet forum called Fiberglassics. Big fins and vintage outboards.

The main reason I'd ever loosely heard of Beloit in the past, was because of Beloit College being in town. Nice video too btw, and Beloit was always one of those smaller WI towns/cities I had a little interest in wanting to see, but never had done an actual visit there. Only had driven through Beloit on I-39/90, nice to finally see what this town actually looks like for myself!

They are actually building a new Snappers stadium downtown and will have a name change once approved by MLB

Chris, you should visit/do a video of Monroe, Wisconsin. County seat of Green County, next county West of Rock County. Home to many cheese factories. 6 miles North of Illinois border. Was a very low crime, prosperous community with lots of jobs, at least as recently as 2005. Near Freeport, Illinois was known in Monroe as a crime infested toilet in the 80's and 90's, as was Rockford. My Grandparents lived in Monroe during that time, used to enjoy visiting them there.

In 1965 I lived in Beloit, Wisconsin with my aunt and uncle after my mother died. Their house was in Columbine Dr. and I went to the High school, Turner High for 6 months.

A few facts you missed are; S. Beloit is the home office of Taylor Freezer and Beloit is the home of world known Fairbanks Morse, which you drove right by who, to this day, builds diesel engines for trains and the military ships, also previously the home of the Freeman Shoe Co and the Eclipse Windmill Co. The areas you drove through were the oldest parts of both towns.

Lived in that town for three years it’s poverty stricken the only jobs available are temp jobs crime is very high just to name a couple of reasons not to live there%

I have lived here in Beloit almost 20 years. Our house is about one block from where you turned at minute 10:00. I came to teach Swahili and Linguistics at Beloit College. Retired now but I learned a few things about the town from your video: I never knew about the meth use and manufacturing. Unemployment is a big issue. Safe travels. They do say that the ABC Supply now owned by Hendricks is taking over the town, especially the downtown. We hear the casino is finally coming too. Maybe something to look at if you come back in a few years.

The area east of Park and south of Henry is quite rough, there are patches of good mixed with bad near the borders of the city In that area. Typical environment near an industrial part of town.

My family has lived in South Beloit for over 100 years. I was born in Beloit in 1965 and lived in South Beloit(Hayes Avenue), until my mother and father moved us to California in 1969. I still have a few relatives that live in South Beloit

Beloit maybe not the best town but people are friendly. I have traveled quite a bit and couldn't wait to come home.

I return! But this time with a fun fact many non locals won't know: so us locals along the Rock River strip know the South Beloit & Beloit area as the Car versus Home Champions. There happens to be a vehicle versus home accident like two or three times a year in either place and I believe we just popped this year's cherry a few days ago. If you are interested just go and google "Vehicle vs home Beloit WI" and some scrolling should yield some sauce.

I like Beloit, WI. My mother graduated from Beloit High School in 1940 and then she and her parents moved to Rockford, IL so I have really enjoyed your videos of both areas. I have travelled all over Wisconsin and enjoyed most of it. There are some bad neighborhoods in Milwaukee, which is true of any big city, but otherwise it is a beautiful state.

Portage, WI would be a fun one

It does make those lists a lot. I think most people are being a bit dramatic when they name it the worst. But it defiantly has its share of problems compared to other WI cities. To me i dont think Beloit is that bad, just nothing really draws me to come visit. Lots to see and do in the Madison area where I live and the lakes are beautiful. Milwaukee area has the size and the things to see and do with a big city, along with Lake Michigan. The whole Janesville and Beloit area doesnt offer a whole lot compared to other places... at least not personally. But its like you said, its really not that bad of a place. The Rock River is pretty though however.

Beloit has a bad rap because of it's past. Nowadays it is not a bad place. There are bad areas like Porter Ave and 8th St, but that is like every city.

Try this trick: Get a cheap pair of sunglasses ($1) and punch one of the lenses out. Look at this sequence through the glasses - the aerial view will provide a 3D effect (as if Beloit were on a giant lazy susan). If it doesn't work, switch the lens from one eye to the other and try again.

A new baseball stadium is being built. New home construction near the I- 90 I-43 interchange. Beloit has it's problems thats true but has high points as well. Better than Rockford!

You could have much better showed the city by following the bus routes. You completely missed the major retail and manufacturing are on the east side of town. Yes, Rock county's major employers are governmental and medical, but the bulk of Beloit's emploment is in food processing, including plants for Frito-Lay & Hormel...

I love your making fun of the whiners! Freaking hilarious dude! These are so fascinating to me now. I don't drive anymore and rarely leave at all. These are my stomping grounds from way back. Lived with friends on Whirlwind Ave in South Beloit years ago. He owned a house on Church St in Beloit so they were there for a bit and then bought a house off of Riverside Drive almost to Janesville. Many years now. Haven't seen them in so long. Was hoping you would continue down and pass their turn off as the house is right there but you didn't. Close tho. That's a pretty drive, down Riverside. Spent many many times there with them. Along with my daughter. When I was a teen Beloit was the place to go clubbing because their legal age was lower than Illinois. Lol. Haven't had a drink since about 2007. Not a drop. So weird. Seems like peeps were out partying while you were there. Covid be damned I guess. Sand Fest maybe? Idk. One time we went to Turtle Creek for the fireworks. My daughter who was maybe 5 got hit on the head with a piece! Think she's kept it all these years. She's in her 40s now. Her own daughter almost was killed by one of the damn bottle rockets our friends let off in Beloit at their annual 4th backyard party. Boy we were lucky both times. She had just left her little chair and the thing just went right thru it. Their older kid got hurt one year too. Ole Daddy-o is a bit of an ahole 🙄 Thanks for all these! I live in craptown. No names. Anyone in Beloit heard of Rising Tide Design Company? Seems as if they are a shell company running a scam on FB about building Chesterfield furniture made in this town as US manufactoring. It sounds like an Indian company that ships them here to the US because of the 14-16 week lead time and the margin in which they operate. Not sure who Cole Swartz is - the CEO - but having a hard time figuring out where this huxster is from.

You forgot to state a lot of the facts about Beloit for instance Beloit ironworks wasn’t just a foundry they made the largest paper making machines in the world for way over 100 years also in Bilitis Fairbanks Morse company which was a target on Hitler‘s list in the United States because it manufactured most of the Navy ship engines you forgot to mention that also

I love the concept of your videos, but the generalizations and conclusions based on logical fallacies really detract from them. The occasional snarky asides are irritating, too. A perfect example of the dangers of Wikipedia. Stop and talk to the locals! Visit the chambers of commerce! Get other perspectives. This could be a really informative channel with some minot tweaks.
