Hey! Thank you so much for playing our game :) The feedback on the demo has been super valuable. We’ve worked on our controls to make them feel smoother for the full release, and we'll be adding the QoL you mentioned as well! When it comes to the QTE Events, as the game progresses, you'll get to upgrade your forge offering more options to craft more efficiently.
As an Indie Game Developer of pixel games, I can tell you that a lot of love and time went into making this. This is definitely something I want to play when I get some free time in developing. Kudos to Bontemps Games!
I think the word charming is an excellent way to describe the art style for this game, I instantly fell in love with it and all the little details the devs have incorporated into it. I love the animation for when Lucca pulls his pickaxe out of his leather apron and even the little loading animation in the bottom lefthand corner that shows him using the grindstone is delightful. Damn you, Sneaky Sam!
Like your work splatter. Love seeing all the different options out there. Get tired of seeing mainstream stuff. Love to see the variety of peaples' imagination!
This was quite fun to watch, the gameplay seems almost relaxing even, I like how mechanical and tactile everything feels. And you were so enthusiastic and seemed to be actually excited while playing, which made the experience much better!
I love blacksmithing games too! What I really like is how this is open world, and like how you can modify the overworld map depending on what tools you have available. Very interesting concept!
“Is not he that can make an opportunity superior to him that takes it; and is not he that strikes only when the iron is hot likely to be outdone by him, that makes the iron hot by striking?” ~~~~ most favorite quote ever!
Glad you are back! Started watching your vids daily for the past month or so and have made about 5 solid purchases because of your reviews. Keep on siftin though the pile brotha! I appreciate you! One question though, @splattercatgaming how the f do you have all this time to play so many games. 😂
My problem with Quick time events like in this game is they get really old really fast. It looks like it has lots of good ideas, but it's going to be a pass for me.
At least you can make multiple at a time, but it becomes a grind to make things, instead of fun. Dragon Quest XI had one of the few crafting minigames i liked.
i was thinking exactly the same thing. i mean i'll probably try this game at some point, i like it, but i was trying to think about how to simulate crafting in videogames in a realistic way but still keeping it fun. like, accurate, but still gamey enough. nobody wants to take a 1000 hs blacksmithing course to play a rpg right? and like you say QTE are kind of old now.. not easy. we need a messiah with some new ideas...🤔
@@hic_tus My idea would be to make a more indepth crafting minigame that has functions like the better you do the higher quality the item is that comes out. The feature that stops it from being annoying though, is that once you make an item the first time, you can instantly complete any subsequent crafts of that item. The instant complete will also match the quality of your highest quality you reached in the manual crafting.
@@MagnusBellatorr I like this idea, but I would say if you want to add grade tiers to the items the minigame should be repeated every time otherwise if you 'skip' it you'd just get the normal quality. Incentivizes people to play the minigame but doesn't force it on everyone. Win-win imo.
Splatter is my Craftsbrother from another mother. When it's a potions, blacksmith or merchant game my attention is already in. Anf the sprite animations are charming as hell!
This game has so many QoL, but Splat haven't used/show them. You can pin 3 rcp and do them simultaneously if the materials you need match, that's only when you need more than one let's say 2x2 piece or multiple 1x1 Also he was super exited about the kids helmet and didn't say - F me they really changed the sprite - when he give his order. The demo looks great, there are few things that might get polished, but definitely a game looking forward to play, and If there is a way to randomize the things wow this might become super awesome non linear RPG.
Hey Splat, I know "Vintage Story" isnt a game style thats usually in your repitoire, but it has some of the best blacksmithing I've seen in any game. The game gets pushed off as a minecraft knock off, but I think it has a lot of variety and character. The title definitely doesnt get enough love. Id love it if you'd give it a look. Thanks!
Splat, if you're into blacksmithing games, I have two retro suggestions for you. Thousand Arms if you'd like non-visual-novel datesim directly tied into smithing. Legend of Mana if you want an insanely complex blacksmithing system, far more complex than any crafting system humanity is ever likely to produce again.
20:15 correct; in Italian we call it 'azza' (which is [iirc] also the correct term for the tool to remove branches from a recently fallen tree), and I think the English word is a loan word from the French too.
I just downloaded a blacksmithing cellphone game last night cause I miss playing them but most are so paywalled or have an underwhelming amount of content it makes me sad, and then I saw you uploaded this little gem. :D
regarding the giving away items that you need, ya, that's why it seems a lot of games that have quests like that let you "lock" items so you don't accidently give them away or use them in crafting as ingredients or what have you.
So I'm really hard of hearing and can't really understand the background music but for a second there I swear to god I heard the LOTR Shire music...I'm going crazy I think? This seems like the nicest looking black smithing game I have seen in awhile. The movements seem nice and tight even if they are a bit sticky, hmm.
To quote a RU-vidr... "This looks like it would be a really difficult game to play, with a lot of quick-time events and sneaky people and what-not." "Actually, it's gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience!" "Oh, really?"
Yeah it's a nice little game. I did fight with the controls somewhat though. Some sections are better with keyboard and some better with mouse. Maybe it's more of a user error but I play a wide variety of games and it usually takes me mere minutes to get into it. That being said, the rest of the game was good. The base seems solid and I saw a lot of upgrades that would add entire new sections to the game, not just +5 whatever but very significant such as an underwater module to go scavenging sunken vessels. The dialogue and quests seemed fine and there were some funny references to other games. Added to my wishlist and interested to see what else the game can bring. If I ever need a break from OSRS, I know where to go.
Y'all the QTEs can be skipped when you upgrade the forge. Gotta admit, I do have a sore finger having to do so many just to reach that point. It's an amusing, thoughtless diversion, in any case
Note to the DEVs: When talking to other NPCs. You guys made it so the "chat balloon" displays both characters on top of them, correct? No problems with that, but, why switch characters every time one of them is talking? That is so confusing. The way it is at the moment, the character who is speaking grows bigger than the other (who is waiting), so, why not just keep both characters where they are, fixed, and just make each one bigger when its their turn to speak? Switching sides like that is hella annoying to follow...
so, there's a head blacksmith with an urgent order, and he sits around on a park bench instead of filling he order just so he can tell is apprentice, who fell down a mine shaft, to hurry up and get the job done. never, never think about video game storylines.
13:35 It's true for me. I dislike QTEs so heavily, I haven't bothered buying any game with such mechanics since Resident Evil 4 or whatever that was, with the lake monster.
I met a cute girl in the next village over. She was pretty shy to begin with, wouldn't even tell me her name. But I did some pretty epic work for her, so after a while she warmed to me. She doesn't say much, but likes to hang out. I don't know if this means anything, but every time I talk to her she gives me wood.
