Started on the interior getting loft mostly finished. Concrete pad for stove was poured along with installing with cement board for stone wall behind stove.
Finished the roof just in time for a torrential rain that tested the flashing and caulk on metal roof. Did it leak? Watch and find out.

Just found this channel. I’m in the process of binge watching it to get caught up. Love the series. On another note; one of the other teachers in my school’s husband just fell off a ladder. He was a carpenter. He’s now a paraplegic. Please be more careful using that ladder. They had only been married one year.

Thanks. I hate ladders. Only accident I've had on this build is falling off a ladder 6ft up. Luckily landed on my side.

Enjoyed watching every episode of your build thus far. It is slow, steady and relaxing. Your one man way without heavy equipment and expensive tools makes it seem possible for anyone with just common sense, minimal building skills and enough determination to accomplish. It is very inspiring. It also looks like a build that would last awhile. Hope to see it completed.

Wish I could have warned you earlier, I used that same cement board and the heat from wood stove actually deteriorated it. I wish I would had used the regular half inch solid cement board I use when building showers. Live and learn I guess. But I love this build. I had the same idea years ago and now I definitely want to do this butt and pass style

This build has been amazing, Ioved all of it but it would have been even better if you'd had a dog, how did you manage this without a four legged pal. Only one comment it's not clear to me how you pinned these logs together, I notuce your a fan of toenail fastening from the side is that the only method you used. Overall quite brilliant for one man, I'm also guessing your a woodworker by profession, cheers enjoy

You need a metal flat trowel to put a good finish on concrete. You will find if you get an ordinary garden how. You can mix concrete without adding so much water. Get a straight 2”x4”a couple feet longer than your concrete on each side. Then using a sawing motion from left to right as you drag it forward. It will level the concrete and make it ready for your metal trowel. A concrete edger will make it like a professional did the work. I have a question about how you nailed your roof rafters at the top of your wall. I saw you didn’t make a cut for the rafters to sit on the wall plate. You might want to get some metal prackets to make those connections stronger as well as the ceiling joists you put up in this video. Later
@TheOffGridExperience
@TheOffGridExperience Год назад
Thanks for the info. Concrete stove pad came out pretty well. I'm not an expert but I'm happy with it. Laying the stone wall behind the stove will be the challenge. Any tips there? Regarding rafters, birdsmouths were cut although they were on the smaller side. Take care!

One of the things I liked about your channel is the long, slow shots of outdoors and your method of telling the story without constantly changing shots with 1-2 second cutaways in editing. Stephen King advises writers "slay all adjectives". I suggest you go back to your original pace in editing and slay all complicated cutaway shots-- I am starting to get dizzy from the complicated cuts man!
