Thank you, my daughter has this. She was misdiagnosed 5 years as autistic and tourettes. Then she had a steroid injection for croup and all the symptoms stopped as fast as they started. She was referred to an immunologist and diagnosed with PANS.

Family member, in the southeast U.S., of 13 month old baby just got the whooping cough and rhinovirus(?) vax and 3 days later started dry coughing. Long story short .... 4 days later an ambulance had to transport the baby to a children's hospital (bypassing hospitals on the way that refused the child advising to take to a neighboring state's children's hospital in the southeast U.S.) and child actually has been diagnosed with whooping cough and rhinovirus upon ER admission. Two more days later child moved to CICU and additionally diagnosed with brain acute disseminated encephalomyelitis and child can no longer hold head up or sit up and has severe neurological problems. Now what caused this? Was it a bad batch? Has anyone else had this problem? Please pray for our little baby niece. Needs 🙏 asap.

I must have had infectious encephalitis. It was the day after my first birthday. My Dad has told me I had a lumbar puncture a CT and EEG otherwise I wouldn't have known. I was given antibiotics because anti-virals were not out in the 1970's. Apparently I was in hospital for 6 weeks.

Thank you for your comment and for sharing some of your story with us Paula. Acyclovir, the key antiviral used in the management of infectious encephalitis became available to physicians in 1982 following clinical trials: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2828440/#:~:text=Abstract,available%20to%20physicians%20in%201982. Before this the mortality rate for Herpes Simplex Encephalitis (the most common infectious type here in the UK) was 70-80%. Since acyclovir has become available this has dropped to 10-20%: www.encephalitis.info/herpessimplexvirusencephalitis. Thank you so much for the links. I will definitely nave to have a look. I must have been 6 when Acyclovir first physically became available. It was diagnosed as 'viral' encephalitis so my Dad said.

My daughter is hospitalized for possible encephalitis because of behavior changes. Can you still have encephalitis even if a brain MRI and spinal tap come back ok?

@@encephalitisinternational I've rang before. Now it feels like my body is slowly shutting down. I can't feel emotions, yet with a flick off a switch, I'm crying or I'm angry. I have no idea where it comes from. I can barely feel pain now, my hands and feet are numb. I've also lost my taste buds. They've done blood tests but they weren't sent off as an emergency, so it'll take ages for them too come back. :(
