An Unnerving Wild Camp | Strange Skies and Scary Eyes !

A rather unnerving and scary night on the wild camp. After the biggest pinkest moon rise I have ever seen, I woke an hour before my (very) early alarm call. Looking outside and I was treated to something I have never seen before- an amazing sight! However things got a little strange and scary after this as I started noticing voices then eyes and barks ! I was a little unnerved until the dawn arrived proper
" boom boom " - this famous quote may explain some of the strange occurrences in the video ;)

Barking Roe deer 100%, you don't hear them bark often and I've only ever heard them bark in Scotland despite working and sleeping in woodlands with large Roe deer populations down here in Yorkshire for years. People are saying it's a fox but a fox bark is just slightly more shrill than a dog bark, quite different to what you are hearing. Great video as always mate 👍

The noctilucence isn't actually clouds, they're ice crystals in the upper mesosphere. Can only be seen from late May until around September. This year hasn't been the best for them. I can see them in suburbia outside Glasgow with full light pollution. They are spectacular to see. If you can see North from your house, always look that way during the summer months after the sun has went down. Lovely shots of them.

What a magical night that was, Murray! I agree with the other commenters, I think those were foxes. They certainly can sound like alien monsters in the night, quite disturbing :) It must have been breathtaking seeing the noctilucence and the moonrise. Wow! I've been hoping for a glimpse of the aurora recently as the sun's quite active at the moment. From Aberdeenshire I've seen maybe a vague green glow to the north, but it's kind of hard to be definite about it. Next time my app alerts me, I might drive up to Portsoy, which is only 30 minutes north of me. Apparently that's a good spot to watch from.

I was up in the Mournes last year shooting the Milky Way over a reservoir in the pitch black with my head torch off about 3am when I felt a presence next to me. I switched the torch on and shit myself as a fox was standing right next to me, having snuck up like a bloody ninja. Great vid Murray. Pink moon looked amazing 😍. I met a family of foxes "off-piste" one night on Ben Aigan. Luckily I had my mtb night light and briefly lit them up like daylight and confirmed it with two 5000 lumen twin lights! They weren't very happy as I must've ventured near their Den I think. This was in the high forest section and the sound was almost identical to this. When the nights are quiet the noise is quite piercing! I was clattering over half buried tree branches making an awful racket so they must've heard me coming from miles away 😂 Viva les pantalon jaunes! 🟨
