So Mark, I’m amazed that your relationship with the Whittakers goes back 18 years! Ray has come such a long way from his first reaction of fear and anger. He loves you now. He lights up like a Christmas tree when you talk to him. Thank you for showing us the kindness, humanity and innocence of these folks. And thank you for raising money to get them a new roof, siding, kitchen cabinets and many other things they needed. I love that the Whittakers’ neighbors and community protect them. Exactly! They're VICTIMS of inbreeding. Their parents were twice first cousins, their parents married in the 1930's, it was quite common to marry between first cousins back then, how could their parents possibly know the possible genetical defects? The father was 6-7 years older than the mother, so that was quite normal. I don't have any information further back in the family three, but they're all siblings, except for Timmy who is a nephew (I don't know which of the unseen/unnamed/deceased siblings is Timmy's parent).

@lblincoe2094
@lblincoe2094 2 года назад
You and I have a very different idea of what not "removing pride" looks like! Because, as far as I'm concerned, if you want someone to maintain their dignity, you don't film them while they're out peeing in the yard, you don't film their clearly soiled pants and yell out "Hey, what happened to your pants!", you don't put them in a position to look impaired by asking them questions alluding to their genetic misfortunes that they're clearly not even able to answer, and so on and so on. I watched these videos and never thought "gracious kind heart", I watched them and thought "intrusive and phoney for the sake of views" because that's what I saw. I saw a man benefiting off of the misfortunes of people who don't even know they're being taken advantage of. Yes, I understand they're getting some financial assistance now, but it's not out of his pocket, it comes from a Go Fund Me. Which is not a difficult thing for anyone to set up, anyone can do it, and it's free. Establishing one for them was hardly a big gesture on his part, but he gets to be the altruistic hero with the "big heart" for doing it. He also gets to claim the brownie points and praise for any money they gain. He just shows up and films them and the worst parts of their lives, which is already his job, and he gets millions and millions of views (thus money) for doing it. With it all considered, he didn't sacrifice a thing and I wouldn't even say he made any real effort, yet he came out smelling like roses. That feels like exploitation to me.

I grew up in NW Pa, and there are many families in the rural areas similar to the ones mentioned here. I even knew a few. They tended to stay around their homes, not venturing out into the world ,where they are ridiculed and harassed. They grow their own food and hunt, and often have large families within the same gene pool. I used to hike a lot, and would run into some of the family members. We would say “Hi” and keep going our own way. My father would take my mom and I to auctions in these rural towns, and many of the families would attend as well. Women who were 40 looked to be 60, weathered by sun and hard work. Some had congenital anomalies and cognitive impairment. I was curious but not afraid of their children..they didn’t interact with me, and very quiet and serious.

I can shed some light on how politics affect these areas. Most of the Appalachian mountain area is "Coal Country", a huge portion of the local taxes come from mines and gas well companies. Local political leaders, such as, county supervisors, board members, sheriff, and other business owners rely heavily on the mines. Now, how does this plays into negatively affecting the local population? The mines and gas wells need land for mining and drilling, they also need workers, it is in the best interest of the mines to get land and labor as cheap as possible. So, to keep cost low and profits high, they need to keep land cost down and education low ( educated people general stay away from low paying hazardous jobs). They accomplish this through local politics and propaganda. These small towns are keep small and poor for a reason! Now, how does that relate to incest, drug use, and bad health, with a low population that are poor and uneducated, you end up with horrible living conditions, drug and alcohol abuse, tack on men dying at earlier ages from black lung, rock falls, explosions, and poor diet, leaving widows and young children to fend for themselves. Most get on government assistance and/or settle for a substandard man just for some security. Take note that a lot, not all, but a lot, of places around the world that are rich in natural resources have some of the worth living conditions. It is not a coincidence! And the reason that I know this is, I have lived 2hrs from Odd, WV. for most of my live (almost 40 yrs), and also spend 11 yrs in the military traveling to some awful locations, I have seen a lot of bad stuff, sad stuff 😪

So many shy away from the ugly gritty side where there's nothing to monetize, there's no safety, there's nothing. These people are the true heart and soul of America the people society would rather not acknowledge. Thanks for taking the time to work at their speed. I think the level of respect in your presentation is fantastic. I'm sure the family can understand motives and intentions even if they cannot verbalize that.

I do not understand your comment. I was just about to watch this but at the last second, I stopped. I couldn’t watch. It’s making me sick. I really mean sick. Nauseated. How in the world can incest be ok? Why do you think it’s ok? Are you in an incestuous relationship? I have news for you. It isn’t ok. Incest is a father doing it with his child. IN WHAT UNIVERSE IS THIS NOW THOUGHT OF AS FINE? And happy? So it’s ok if the father is happy, or the mother is ok watching? Or maybe if the mother is ok screwing her son? So this is all ok now? I’m not the sick one. I know right from wrong.

@@lil18thletterking77 I didn’t open the door to this, I even refused to watch this video. There are reasons you shouldn’t inbreed. Look it up. See what people look like when born thru inbreeding. Deformed and mentally retarded is just a start. This is not ok.

@@AdrienneMint Children are helpless initially and depend on their parents for a decent genetic chance, as well as a good enough early childhood environment. Life is tough enough for kids who are healthy. To have deficits from the get go is totally selfish and uncaring of the parents. Anyone can reproduce without asking themselves what sort of life they can give their kids.

@@evelynwaugh4053 well of course I agree with you. That’s why I went on a rant last night. I even refused to watch the video about those disgusting people. I found it by accident here and was going to watch but became sick to my stomach. There is a reason not to inbreed. Birth defects, mental retardation, and more. I became even more nauseated by the sick comments everyone was making, along the lines of “ oh, it’s fine as long as they are happy”. Well, I have news for them, it’s not fine, it’s disgusting. And that’s how I feel.
