A minimum wage that everyone else won't get maybe until 2024. Win win only for the prison industrial complex. Those "media" will often film some conflicts with uniformed people as if they're blocked by police from revealing something. In reality, those aren't even police. They didn't get permission before entering non public premises, trespassing in other words, and were stopped by security guards. The chinese renovated the area and beautified it. This is kashgar old city. This area was deteriorating really badly with poor people and poor sanitation and maintenance. The city was unplanned with poor sanitation. The chinese demolished a lot of the old buildings and reconstructed them in traditional uyghur achitetecture. They used the same materials uyghur have used to build for centuries. They widened the streets built sanitation and electricity and the decorated the area with greenery. The chinese first moved the uyghur to new apartments away from the old kashgar city, they then demolished the old deteriorating buildings and then rebuilt and redecorated the buildings in old kashgar city. After that, they moved the residents from their temporary apartments back into the reconstructed and redecorated buildings in the old kashgar city. That is why the place looks the way it does.

​@@lollymanna Yeah, not only Xinjiang, the Chinese government is spending a lot of money to beautifying the village all over the country, making life in villages better. So nowadays many city dweller or town dweller like travelling to villages which can provide some tourism revenue for the locals. It's a policy call "the construction of beautiful villages " and I think it's a win-win.

I drove from BJ to Weihai back in 2010 and that was some road trip! How I survived I'll never know but I must say Weihai's beach is absolutely beautiful. I really enjoyed my week there and hope to go back there again soon!

@@uwanttono4012 I drive every year from Weihai to my parents in law in Hebei ( 300 km) north of BJ. I always make it into a two day drive. Weihai is a lovely clean small city. We are here already 16 years. You probably didn’t see the beautiful clean new beaches just outside the city.

It was long, clean and beautiful and one of the best beaches I have ever been on (far better than the beaches in Qingdao). No doubt I expect that Weihai has changed a lot since I was last there but I definitely intend to return.
