Watch here as An Shifu demonstrates Bajiquan's Xianglong with long-term student Arvid from Germany. Xianglong is part of Baji's Jin Gang Ba Shi, eight foundational movements that build speed, power, body structure & fighting spirit - and have powerful applications. This is why it's one of the first things Baji students learn at our school! Enjoy the video and please let us know what you think!

So does it looks like when people understand the essences of kung fu. One essence is better positioning the opponent that you can fight from the outside. Thanks for the great video

I'm glad I found your channel, Sifu An, and I'm hoping I can eventually make it to China and retrain from the ground up full-time under you. Had to give up my Baji study for the time being, and it's killing me inside, but hopefully that will change when funding and current world affairs allow more to happen

Once travel opens up again, you're very welcome, Anthony! Every little bit of training is worthwhile, like holding horse stance while the kettle boils. Keep it up!

Excellent video, I feel very lucky to have found this great channel. I regret that we do not have a proper representation of Chinese martial arts (or any Chinese Gong Fu art/skill for that matter) here in Copenhagen, Denmark - but hopefully my path in life will take me to mainland China or Taiwan where I hope to lead biology research on tea plants. At the same time, then, it would be very nice to have proper exposure to the BajiQuan martial art and deepen my study in Gong Fu Cha with Pu Erh and Wulong. Anyway, I'm always looking forward to the next video. Enjoy your learning, training and teaching - thank you so much for your effort and dedication!

That is a very noble goal. When you are in China, you are welcome to come to my school, and learn some Bajiquan. We also have a tea house with links to the local Buddhism community that I often visit, though I am not sure exactly what teas they serve... Thank you for your kind words :)

Thank you for this video: it explains the practical functions of some movements that I've found in other martial-art forms [forms in Sun Style Baguazhang, Xing Yi Quan's Monkey Form, & Karate's Naihanchi Form(s), for instance]. 😎👍 Before seeing this video I had no idea that 'Ward Off' could be done from the inside of a foe's guard in order to get to the outside of his guard (but it makes absolute sense that it was designed for this as well, now that I've seen it done*). * = Unfortunately for me I've not been able to get complete instruction in any one art, & I've got a lot of form practice without being shown much application (so it has taken me decades just to pick up on applications here & there... & I often miss seeing things when watching folk at full speed). I appreciate your breaking down the motions with clear explainations for each. 😎👍

Hi omri j, thanks again for your kind words. I think it is possible to teach forms over video, but they would have to be very long videos: many hours covering principles, basics etc... not something short here on RU-vid. I am glad you are enjoying my videos, but I do not recommend learning from them, as movements without basics and principles will not give you good kung fu. You are welcome any time in China or I hope to meet you a a seminar someday :) My goal with this RU-vid family is to share my family's style of kung fu with people, for their enjoyment or to hopefully train with them someday. Hope that helps. Thank you again.

I have question, is your Bajiquan is the same that used by Li Shuwen?
@AnWushuKungFu
@AnWushuKungFu 5 лет назад
Hi Tedi, thanks for your question. All Bajiquan comes from the same source, but the An Family learnt Bajiquan earlier than Li Shuwen. It's a good question! I will try to publish the family history on our website in English in the next few days: www.anwushuchina.com

An Wushu Kung Fu and I will! I’ve been to China many times already, mostly Beijing and Henan( trained at Shaolin ). I got Certificate from Shaolin to teach martial arts not some fake ‘ Master’ from US or Europe ! Baji has been used at the Chinese Imperial Court and even some of the China Emperors trained in the style, Chairman Mao bodyguard was from Shaolin ...

Hi omri j, thanks for watching. It really depends on the specific movements/combos, but generally a Baji practitioner will strike back as soon as he can!

So is Xianglong the movement to pass / cross the opponents arm? Do you ever use Wrestling style 'Arm-Drags'?
@AnWushuKungFu
@AnWushuKungFu 8 лет назад
+ollhashedfetish Yes, well-spotted, that is very common in Baji. Not sure what you mean by 'arm-drags'? Thanks for all your comments on our videos, I am glad you are enjoying them :)
@thos1618
@thos1618 8 лет назад
+An Wushu International Kung Fu School Thank you for responding. An Arm-Drag is common move in Wrestling and BJJ. It's like what you showed but grabbing the underside of the elbow. In grappling matches, 2 hands are usually used; one on the elbow, one on the wrist, but it's not necessary. Very simple and effective crossing move to get a strong angle against your opponent.
@thos1618
@thos1618 8 лет назад
+An Wushu International Kung Fu School More simply, Xianglong grabs over the elbow, Arm-Drag grabs under the elbow.

+ollhashedfetish Ah. Thank you for explaining, I understand! Yes, this type of leverage is very commonly created/used in An Wushu.
