බුදුන් නොහඳුනන ඉන්දියාවේ දකුණු දේශය. ධර්මපාල හිමිගේ ලිපිය (රත්මලානේ ධම්මාලෝක පොඩි හාමුදුරුවන් වහන්සේ වෙත යොමු කළ පහත සඳහන් ලිපිය) 👇 “ඉන්දියානුවන් කිසිවෙක් බුදුහිමි ගැන නොදනිති. ඔවුහූ බුදුරුවට ජටා පළඳවති. නළලේ අළු ගාති. නළල මැද තිත තබති. ගාන්ධි තුමා තම රටේ උපන් බුදුන් ගැන දැනගෙන ඇත්තේ එංගලන්තයේදී සර් ආර්නෝල්ඩ් පඬිවරයා තෑගි කළ "ද ලයිෆ් ඔෆ් දි ඒෂියා " ග්‍රන්ථය කියවීමෙන් පසු ය. තාගෝර් තුමා බුදුන් ගැන සාවඥ සිනහා පහළ කරන්නේ ය. ධර්මාශෝක අධිරාජ්‍යයා විසින් ගොඩනගන ලද ගරා වැටී තිබූ බුද්ධ ස්ථාන පිළිසකර කිරීමට ආධාර පතමින් මම ලොව වටා ගමන් කළෙමි. මාගේ සංචාරයන් මල්ඵල ගැන්වෙන විට ලෝක බුද්ධිමත්හු බුද්ධ දර්ශනයට නැඹුරු වන්නට වූහ. බුදුහිමි නේපාලිකයෙක් ද, කාලිංඝයෙක් ද නැත්නම් වෙනත් ඉන්දියානුවෙක් ද යනු සැක සහිත බව කියනු කැමැත්තෙමි. බුද්ධ වර්ෂය ඉතා වැරැදි බැව් ඉන්දියානු ඉතිහාසඥයෝ පුද්ගලිකවම මා හට ද පවසා ඇත. පාළි භාෂාව පිළිබඳ කිසිදු තොරතුරක් ඉන්දියාවෙන් හමු නොවේ. මා විසින් පවසන කරුණු නොපමාව ගවේෂණයට ලක් කිරීමට හැකි නම් මම එය ඉතා උසස් කොට සලකමි. මා දැන් මරණය බලාපොරොත්තු වෙමින් හා මා විසින් මෙතෙක් කළ යුග මෙහෙවර සිතමින් කාලය ගෙවන අතර ඔබ වැනි තරුණ යතිවරයන් වහන්සේලා එකතුව මෙතැන් සිට වඩාත් වෙහෙසෙමින් ක්‍රියා කිරීම අර්ථවත්ය. මම ඔබ වහන්සේට දීර්ඝායු පතමි. මීට හිතැති, සිරි දේවමිත්ත ධර්මපාල හිමි”
