I love the idea of the one friend turns-and then you turn- thing. It's a simple concept but I can see how playing that game with someone would be great practice for both parties involved! (Competitive & Fun). This video definitely got me inspired to practice turns.
Thank you! :D I just got a ballet bar installed into my house and turns are my weakest point, I will for sure at lease be doing the bar excersise. As a male dancer, it pushes me so much more to see what I COULD become if I keep working at it. Thanks again.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! I'm doing auditions next year and with my professor's help and my own personal training tips I'm picking up from places like Anaheim Ballet, I feel like I'm going to be ready. :)
Ive noticed I get dizzy easier when I'm spotting in the mirror because its shows the whole room there's to much to look at I do better spotting the corner or something on the wall at eye level
that was exactly how I learned to pirouette from 4th. I think the best concept is to take your time in the beginning to really make sure your alignment and technique are perfect for those 1/4 turns. This way you build better muscle memory.
I had an excellent teacher who taught us to keep our weight really on the forward foot while prepping in 4th for a pirouette. At first it feels a bit farther forward than you might think you should be. But when you pull up from that place, the stability/centeredness is amazing.
very helpful!!! i like the fourth turn practice. My problem is getting both my legs to land exactly in 4th position and i think working on the 1/4 turns with retire/posse' will help. thanks Charlie and Anaheim ballet!!!
My friend went to Anaheim Ballet's Summer Intensive. She told us that the floors are amazing and she normally can do a double sometimes a triple and there she could do more. I definitely want those floors at my studio!
I'm consistent with three turns but I would like to do more. I just can't get enough power even if I do have enough balance. How do I get more power to complete more turns?
OHMYGOD the amazing thing is before i watched this video, i was like falling out in all of my pirouettes, and after i watched it for 30 secs and paused and it tried again, and i actually did one with controll !!!!!!!
This is sooooo amazing ! These guys are so talented. I don't even understand how it's physically possible to do 5 pirouettes. XD I've managed 3, but I don't think I'll get any better ! Pirouettes are not part of the things I love doing, though. But when I see a video like this... Makes me want to practise more !
heyyy i have a suggestion on a video! i think you should make a video on how to prepare for a ballet audition. i have some summer intensive auditions coming up and i'm not sure what to expect. thanks!!!!!
Charlie! I saw you in the Danish documentary 'De Udvalgte, del 2' (The Chosen, part 2) :D You wore a orange t-shirt and two different colored socks - one in yellow and one in green, if I remember correctly. I was so exited when I saw you! I'm a huge fan of ballet even though I'm not a dancer myself in any way so I've been subscribing to AnahaimBallet for years so I kinda "know" your dancers. I would love if the Royal Danish Ballet did stuff like this but until then I'll keep updated elsewhere (:
Woww! I should start trying that quarter pirouette! Thank you for sharing. I do good in balance...but not when doing turns. One more I need to know: how fast I should turn the head? and where should I anchor my eyes?
Turning is basically about leg and core strenght, as well as spotting and connecting your passe. And don't forget your basket should be right in front of your belly button.
@yaymeIamanut :O! I didn't realise an astigmatism did that! Makes a LOT of sense, I have one too and it changes really often. No wonder I can't spot very well and therefore lose my balance a lot! x
@TheHorsefreakforever its all about spotting and also, when you pop up into your turn, think of the crown of your head being as close to the ceiling as possible. Think UP! this really helped me, because i used to concentrate more on getting enough rotation instead of this.
I am not a ballet dancer but a hip hop and Latin dancer. I would like to learn some techniques in ballet. How does one turn such as that without getting dizzy?
Don't worry! I remember when I couldn't do more than one, but then I just started to use more momentum and started spotting. It's the balance that's the hardest. On a good day (and I mean, on a really good day), I can hit a double :) Keep practising, that's what I intend to do :P
