Thanks for uploading this video! Learning about mixer inserts and split TRS cables is a potential A HA moment just waiting to happen for new players! 😄👍
@@BryanDumaguina You are welcome! Can you tell me about that (potentially 3D printed) joystick you have mounted to your MS-70CDR? That looks very handy.
if your trs Y cable is not marked...with most modern cheap mulyimeters that have continuity tesrting...you easily figure it out. I've had to test mine a few time...i always forget. it makes me feel like i know what i'm doing haha
Very good tutorial! Question - For home karaoke (played via RU-vid), mixer with 2 mics (channels 1-2), if I want add external reverb and compressor, is it better to connect directly to channels 1-2, or use fx send? Obviously the song/karaoke played from RU-vid already has been mixes/mastered. Does not make sense to add reverb/compression on top of that. Thanks!
Thanks! Time based effects are usually placed on FX sends or AUX sends - if you want both mics on channel 1 and 2 to get the same reverb (on the one fx unit) - IMO that's the way to go. It can also work via inserts, but you'd need two external fx units - one for each vocal mic. 🙃
Thank you for the clear explanation. How can we use those external device for the whole mixing board instead of just one channel? I hope you make a video for that.
Thank you! It's in the pipeline! But the concept is the same if you have INSERTs on the Main Outputs. Insert your outboard gear there and the entire mix will get processed. Alternatively, you can use the AUX sends (as I mentioned, video in the pipeline!)
MENTAL BuZZ Bryanie Ive been locked out of my channel for 3 weeks and only got it back an hour ago n during my Blackout ive been watching loads of Tutorials just like This one , which by the way is EXACTLY What ive been looking for .... Again and only in the last few days ive Totally Reset ALL My synth and Mixer settings as i was miles off with mine and have FINNALY Solved my Dodgy sound issues id already recorded the vid i just released last week so hopefully my next will sound totally different Thanks for your wicked tutorials bro. They REALLY Help me
You can insert the outboard gear via the Master Output Inserts, this particular analog mixer has a pair of inserts on the main output. Or you can connect the outboard gear via the auxiliary outputs and return back through the pair of stereo returns (Stereo 1 or Stereo 2). You have more control over the reverb mix with the second option.
@@DonnyEscorpeso Just checked your mixer, the base model MG12, has no channel inserts actually. Neither on the input channels or the main output. You do have a pair of auxiliary sends (AUX 1 and AUX 2) . You can send out time-based effects through there, and then return via the return channels (you can say 9/10 or 11/12 as return channels). I think sending time-based effects is actually best via aux sends and not inserts, what I did in the video was just an example. 😄Using mixer auxiliaries is another video I'll be making soon, that's a different video. You can definitely search here at RU-vid, I'm pretty sure you'll find something.
You'll need an inset cable like this, TRS that terminates tip on male xlr and ring that terminates on female xlr. Provided your outbound gear utilizes male on input and female on output. www.designacable.com/neutrik-xlr-insert-cable-tip-send.html Kind of custom, quite hard to find with my quick search, easier to build if you're handy with a soldering iron.
thank you for this great example of inserts and mixers. The mixer I have has compressors built in on 16 channels and reverb for all channels with 20 presets! its the Mackie ProFX30v3. Do you have any experience with this brand and mixer? Sgt Boudreau
