Hold on, the radio station was airing radio on low power tv and using the Atari Video Music as a visualizer? That’s rad af and it’s sad it had to end so soon!
Thank you for listening to WVOA 87.7 FM. With great sadness, this concludes our broadcasting on 87.7, due to the FCC no longer allowing any stations in the U.S. to broadcast on this frequency. We are moving all programming over to WSIV 106.3 FM, and 1540 AM. Please reset your preset buttons to 106.3 FM and 1540 AM, The Voice. Well bless God and glory ha- *static*
Damn, this is really heartbreaking in a "you really shouldn't be that upset over this, it's seriously not too big of a deal" sorta way. It's like how newspapers, home phones, and dial-up are all similarly being phased out in the wake of something superior. I guess it's just a little bittersweet - they've all had their time in the spotlight and it's tough to see them go, but we're all better off because of them. God speed, all.
This station is broadcasting on a frequency shared by analog TV, due to the analog TV shutdown, the areas that were also used by FM radio are also not allowed to be used
This station is using VHF Channel 6 audio frequency as a loophole to broadcast legally without obtaining an FM commercial license, as it was easier to obtain a low-power television license.
@@ki5aokYeah exactly. TV stations are required to have picture and sound. Thats why they have the visualizer. It’s also why the weather subchannel on TV always has music.
@@DXingSlovenija It is pity to see such service being torn down in favour of digital. It is nice to have both on weighing two measures. I believe that even at least one public station being left on Analogue i.e. national station. Cheers 73!
Honestly if someone were to reference this in an EB rom hack (assuming what we are seeing in this moment is recognizably different from other output of an Atari Video Studio) it would be such a deep cut
On July 20, 2023, a FCC "Report and Order" stated that WVOA-LD would be permitted to apply to resume separate audio operations on FM 87.7, using a modified version of the ATSC 3.0 "NextGen TV" standard. ^ It’s not dead yet.

the screen on the tv reminds me of the rejected pk attack from earthbound for the super nes but the animations of the pk attack look like it is corrupting the bios of the super nes
It happened all the time when I was a kid. Used to have nightmares about it. When my mom would fall asleep watching TV, I would often wake up as they played the national anthem just before sign off, and I would run downstairs and turn off the TV, because the sound they played with the test pattern terrified me.
theres still some analog tv transmitters broadcasting in Canada. including high powered analog transmitters. I receive CJCH-TV-6 on 87.7 from 175 kilometers away.
That's because the Canadian government wasn't as greedy about selling off that 700mhz and 600mhz spectrum to the cell phone companies as the FCC was. They left analog low power to run alongside digital as they know the remote areas can't receive a digital signal reliably.
This Is The Script. Thank you for listening to WVOA 87.7 FM. Did the FCC give any reason why they were selling their FrankenFM stations and low powered channels to cellphone companies and shutting down analog? It seems like such a weird and disrespectful move.
EDIT (9/21/2023): It's more than just money. Don't ask me why I originally made this comment as I am not smart. See the comment below for more info, please. The text below is what my comment originally contained 1 year ago. To "perfectly" sum it up: Government: Hello, I like money. Newsmen: So why did you force all analog stations to go digital? Government: MONEY!
@@pizzagob1in17 It's more than that, analog TVs took up valuable radio wave space that some needed, and since digital was becoming popular, they decided to shut down analog media operations and use the airspace.
Thank you for uploading this! Whilst it might not feel like it, you've recorded history here for many future generations to watch regarding the history of analog television, i feel it is important to preserve footage such as this for archive and educational purposes. This was very bittersweet to watch but also interesting as analog in my country ceased transmission in 2012, i remember being there on the night too. Whilst i do admit missing analog, what I don't miss is fiddling around with a fragile aerial doing all the hard work, trying to find a good picture!😂 Maybe i'm just lazy nowadays😅 but thank you so much for this upload! I throughly enjoyed it.

I had no idea radio signals could do visuals like THAT. That’s trippy. Atari really was something… What was with that one guy who started talking right after the final speech? Dude ruined the moment

SECAM-B/G (Western European TV frequency) VHF channel 4 (62.25 - 67.75 MHz) overlapped Russian OIRT FM BAND, 1 MHz higher than US channel 4 (61.25 - 65.75 MHz). Simmilar to Eurasian Cable TV 77 or European Cable TV S44. On PAL-D/K analog tv in China, VHF channel 5 uses 85.25 - 91.75 MHz (overlapped FM band, but only used for cable TV).
I made a mistake, analog TV in Tunisia was ended in 2016 and it's known as the terrestrial TV in here which transformed from analog to Digital using the french TNT system (smth like DVB and ATSC)
I don't know about you, but digital TV makes things better. Clearer signals, digital subchannels, etc. We have to move on. It makes broadcast TV even better than cable.
@@Justin-Hill-1987 Digital Television is an all-or-nothing affair. If you live where there mountains are prevalent, such as nearly half of West Virginia, some parts of Pennsylvania, Virginia and Kentucky, you get nothing. Good for you if you live in a flat or strong signal area though.
Atari Video Music. A music visualizer thats been around since 1977, making it the first commercially available music visualizer on the market. It is also heavily outdated.
Well,I’m up for a WVOA shutdown chain. Anyone else? Just me? Okay. 🎵 Come down,Come down through my fear. (My fear.) 🎵 Edit: Is it fears or fear? Edit 2: Also Fun Fact: The Station Still Exists to this Day,Beginning Digital Broadcasting in January 11 of 2022.

Chinese PAL-D/K TV FREQUENCY CHANNEL 5 uses 85.25 MHz on Video and 91.75 MHz on audio. If channel 5 (PRC) on Cable TV, there’s a bit of static from FM broadcasting. 87.6 FM in Beijing, China, overlapped VHF channel 5.
@@nicholascrockett63098 WVOA is not dead, it's still on the air at two different (now legal) places. It went off of 87.7 because of the FCC mandate, not because of ratings. In this video, you can hear him announce the new channels. The graphics are definately the Atari C240.

Did anyone capture this shutdown in Snap Circuits FM? i remember catching a National Test on my Snap Circuits. Edit: My state is next to New York, So if I had a portable CRT TV, i would be able to pick this up, But it’s too late now.

@@Justin-Hill-1987 "Analog sucks." Digital sucks at reception. Analog was more reliable. At least with analog, you dont lose reception when the atmosphere changes.
