Oh good, I ordered the right thing, hehe. I was going to get myself a SN30 for use with my og SNES consoles, but... the NA "purple colors" one is now worth around $190 and higher on eBay and no longer being made, the SFC "colorful buttons" one is now worth around $60 on eBay and no longer being made (but that's still a better price than the first one I mentioned), and... I already had a NA Nintendo Switch SNES controller just sitting around and collecting dust, so I ordered one of these 8bitdo bluetooth receivers. It will be so nice to no longer need to be using the og controllers with cables (especially now with my SNES set up 8+ feet across the room from my couch). I'm also glad that it's THAT easy of a setup with the receiver!

Thanks for the video, exactly what I was looking for! I just got a new SNES and paid lots of money to buy an OSSC and get the SNES modded - but while playing, I quickly noticed how bad all of my controllers were, all having some kind of functional problems. I planned to just by a new controller, but then I remembered I still had the SNES controller for the Switch and wondered if there was a way to hook that up to the SNES. I had already stumbled over another 8BitDo dongle in the past, where someone told me the SNES controller wasn't compatible with it, so it's good to know that things are different with this one. Cheers!

Hey mate, I got to tell ya that both receivers you got are bluetooth ones, I bought a new sn30 2.4g controller and the receiver is way different, it don't have the red dot and micro USB plug, it only have the dot for the blue light just that, nevertheless I did a lot of test with the same set up that you did with the snes online controller and the 2.4g and both has pretty much the same latency, your idea using the snes switch online controller with the receiver is genius.

@nermaldigital

I'm just an enthusiast and not a pro like some of the other channels. But my 2 cents, is that the video output options makes it far superior to NSO. Especially the scalers on the Super NT, which do a great job in making some games look more polished Vs the native pixel interpretation on the Switch

I haven’t noticed any but thats not to say there isn’t some. I would assume the Switch controller is perfect, if any lag it will be caused by the 8BitDo receiver. Hmmm, While I am able to connect my Bluetooth SN30 8bitdo controllers to the SuperNT, no amount of resetting and retrying gets my official switch online super nintendo controller to connect to the SuperNT using the bluetooth 8bit do adapter. BTW, the one the sn30 2.4 Ghz comes with is a different adapter that does not have.a button on it. It looks completely different than the bluetooth model. When I use that one in my superNT, it will only connect to the player 2 port if I already have my 8bitdo bluetooth controller connected to player 1 port on the super NT. When I plug in the 2.4 Ghz adapter in the player 1 port, the SuperNT menu just scrolls.

Damn I wish I would've thought about this when these were still knocking around!! I've been wanting to get a SNES30 controller from 8bitdo but they've been getting phased out for the newer SN30 controllers. I have a clear SN30 that I got with my SuperNT (I've actually been thinking about retiring it since it's not available at all anymore) but I want the purple 🟣 to match and just for nostalgia. Now these Switch Online controllers are hard to get your hands on and if you do they're being marked up 3x what they were worth. 😫

Yes, the only controller I can get t work is my SF30 Pro Ultimate controller that looks like a SNES controller but has analog sticks. I purchased the clear black SN30 2.4 Ghz to use with the SuperNT, but it just does not work. It partially works but inly in the player 2 port and only after I have my sf30 Pro controller connected using the 8bitdo bluetooth SNES adapter. It may be that the newer run of Super NT consoles do not work exactly the same, I am not sure. I just got mine after ordering it in 2022.

If you’re gonna use a Bluetooth controller, why not just buy a Raspberry Pi or Retron 5? You’re spending all this money on an FPGA console whose main advantage is zero latency. Why use Bluetooth and introduce variable lag?
@nermaldigital
@nermaldigital 3 года назад
The lag on the Nintendo controller is so small, it’s never going to effect SNES games. Works beautifully. PIs are great for Roms but Retro 5 is not great hardware in any category
@Inv8erZlM
@Inv8erZlM 3 года назад
@@nermaldigital If you’re happy with a Bluetooth controller, that’s awesome! Nothing wrong with that, but to say it doesn’t effect SNES games is just not true. The lag is there and it’s noticeable if you’re used to playing with an original controller. That’s why I’m confused as to why people use Bluetooth with expensive FPGA consoles. You’d get similar results with software emulation. Here’s a spreadsheet with the measured latency of a bunch of different controllers. These were obtained for MiSTer, but should give a good idea since MiSTer is also FPGA. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KlRObr3Be4zLch7Zyqg6qCJzGuhyGmXaOIUrpfncXIM/htmlview The SNES Switch controller + 8bitdo adapter in this video is line #159. You can see the lag is about three frames. Add your TV’s inherent latency to that and it’ll easily be noticeable.
@misterkeebler
@misterkeebler 3 года назад
By this logic, you are still introducing whatever controller lag is present on top of the lag from the emulator. It is all cumulative. Plus, we are still talking different solutions. Pi is software emulation without a cart necessary for the rom, and Retron 5 is also software emulation but requires a cart for the rom. Super NT is fpga coded to emulate the hardware. Some people are adamant about one or the other style, but all of them have their place and you may have more motivations that just controller lag (which is typically low anyway). And before anyone jumps on me about a couple of frames, that is certainly something noticeable assuming someone is comparing it to a less laggy solution. A lot of people just adapt. Same reason Megaman Legacy Collection isn't considered "unplayable" by the masses while the purists scoff.
@Inv8erZlM
@Inv8erZlM 3 года назад
@@misterkeebler Yeah, you’re still adding lag on top of lag, but if you’re using Bluetooth, I’m gonna assume you’re just not sensitive to lag. The problem with Bluetooth is that the amount of lag varies a lot from input to input so you will never adjust. There just isn’t a consistent amount of lag to adjust to.
