Where in the Old Testament will you find the word "demon"? You won't.. so why didn't anyone question Jesus about these mysterious "demons" he went on about? Were they familiar with the term because they read the Book of Tobit which was written by Jews (not greeks, not Catholics) perhaps?
This sounds like the word-concept fallacy. We see evil spirits in the Old Testament, especially 1st Samuel. Also, the concept was in the culture. You would have to do more homework to say it was in the culture due to Tobit as opposed to its mentioned in Tobit because it was intelligible to the culture so it was mentioned.
@@aGoyforJesus I'm not saying it should be included in out modern bibles just because it mentions the word "demon", i'm saying there was no valid reason for it to be tossed out in the first place. If driving out demons in a peculiar way is the only defense you have well.. I dunno what you make out of pigs commiting suicide to expell the demons
@@radtod Our contention, and there are multiple problems with Tobit not just this one, that fish guts don't drive out demons and demons don't care about the burning of fish guts. I know of no Christian exorcist who uses this method.
@@aGoyforJesus well if we take the authors word for it, this was an angel of the Lord GOD who directed this particular exorcism BEFORE the power of the Name of Christ was used to cast out demons. some believe Holy Water will do thr trick I dunno, but it's HIS Name that expels the possession where the demons flee. Yes the RCC also foolishly neglected the ultimate atoning sacrifice of Christ when they sold indulgences and pointed to 2nd Maccabees for their dogma, again that's the Old Testament era, we no longer need strange and peculiar methods of exorcising demons just the NAME, no need for sin offering collections of the dead for "hopes of a better resurrection" just the CHRIST.
This really is the silver bullet against the book of Tobit being inspired scripture. What Trent Horn and Gary Michuta still don’t understand is that this passage is not an example of God performing a supernatural act or allowing a common folk practice in order to meet his end. But rather the alleged angel coming from heaven tells Tobit that this is an actual MEDICINAL practice. As a nurse I can tell you that this is not a medicinal practice we use in the hospital to aid in people who have problems with their eyes, let alone curing BLINDNESS...immediately. And when I pressed this on Trent during our debate, he made a joke about it not being covered under his healthcare plan, and he completely avoided answering my question, because he did not want to admit that it was an error made by the writer of Tobit.

@@NathanH83 yes fish smoke doesn't drive away demons. Do you know of any Catholic exorcist using fish gut smoke? You should do what most Catholics do and just chalk Tobit up to edifying fiction.
