If any Osean pilot who bombed civilians gets sent to the penal squadron, then it's no wonder they have such a big airbase to accomodate them all

I think I know why the 444th Air Base has a boneyard. It's either they use old jets instead of buying new aircraft or to salvage any spare parts, since Penal units doesn't always get new shiny toys

The large white crosses on the runway are usually used as a visual signal. In modern day aviation is pretty rare for an aircraft not being aware of a closed runway or not having a radio, thus having to resort to them, but still a possibility. So an explanation could be that the runway is marked closed to all traffic except elements of the 444th because that place is basically a prison.

I would come closer to saying he disobeyed orders somehow. And they railroaded him into getting three strikes. Kind of like how you were blamed in ace combat 5.

Ace Combat 7: Bad Company

I like to think the penal squad was created due to the events of Ace Combat 5. The constant confusion of "who did what" is what led to the Conflict getting so out of hand. So Osea didn't want to see that happen again. Their plan? If their pilots do anything against orders on a drastic scale, they were then punished, not by being kicked out of the air force, but to join this squad where they're treated like garbage. Now you ask "why don't they just get rid of them?" Well, maybe there's a pilot shortage after the Belkan Conflict, they're just desperate and need to have pilots. Maybe another reason is they want to still keep an eye on them so they don't run off to the enemy and assist their efforts by giving them information and assistance. Maybe a combination of the two, maybe something entirely different. #PraisetheSun!

When it comes to the shutdown runway, my theory is that is the base for the "spares" or the pow pilots to keep them away from anything too important in the military and also that that's where they get access to most of their planes, in that scrapyard or yard full of reserve planes. This might explain why some old aircraft like the f-104 are present in the game, it was brought out of retirement at that single base for the pow pilots to fly so they don't mess up modern equipment

There is a flash when the ring hits the plane. It reminds me of the visual effect of being hit by an Electric pulse. So that might mean that the Arsenal bird has an EMP as a defensive mechanism. I could be that the objects (can't clearly see if they are planes of drones) are rolling around because the EMP damaged or shut down the electronics of the planes / drones. I used the picture at 16:15 as a reference to what I see.

The plot kind of reminds me of "Area 88".

My guess on 3 sin lines is the following scenario (inspired from the scene from 2016 trailer where the Princess is exiting a jet) : During one of the first missions Trigger operates somewhere close to the Erusian border when he gets a mission update to intercept a jet with Erusian Princess on board. Similar to Ace Combat 3 we get the order to shoot down the plane but Trigger refuses - 1st sin, Trigger defends the jet from other Osean planes whom been ordered to shoot down both the jet and Trigger - 2nd sin, Trigger escorts Princesse's jet to the Erusian border where he leaves the rest to the Erusians - 3rd sin. That may explain why Trigger's sins are classified which the female pilot mentions?

I'd love to add some wild speculation, hope you're ready to read a lot. My theory is that the airbase has a junkyard out front as a source of new planes and parts for the prison squadron(s). Osea dumps the planes there, then the prisoners can use them, or they can rot in the sun. The deactivated runway can be another sign that landing here (the airbase) is basically a one-way trip for the aircraft that come in. Since they have those dock facilities, Osea can also bring planes in various states of disrepair by ship if they cannot be flown in. Either way, Osea is rid of old/broken planes that they don't care to maintain anymore. ------ However, the juicier bits of wild speculation are related to what the guy is saying at the end of the trailer, about the pilots not officially being part of the military. Wouldn't a supposedly deactivated airbase and junkyard be a great spot to base a squadron that doesn't have to adhere to regulations and rules of warfare as a normal member of a military might? It could all just be a cover for Osea to use pilots that are able to do things that would otherwise be too dangerous/unsavory/unpopular for a normal squadron. -For example, if they (the prison squadron) die on a mission, from Osea's perspective, who cares? Some bad people died. Doesn't affect them any. -If the Spare squadron succeeds, good for Osea. They got what they wanted, even if it was an unofficial mission. -If the Spare squadron does something that would anger the global community, Osea has deniability. (A couple hypothetical situations follow) RandomCountry1- Why did Osea attack this area of and further destabilize the situation? Osea- We have no idea what you're talking about. We didn't have any aircraft in the region in question at the time that you have mentioned. JournalistPerson- Why does Osea regularly operate aircraft out of the 444th air base? Osea- There is no squadron in our military with that number. JournalistPerson- I have pictures. This airbase here at regularly flies planes in and out, some can be seen leaving with weapons on board, and when they return, the weapons are gone. Osea- Well the airbase that you have specified has long been deactivated and abandoned. Osea used it at one time as an airbase, then after the runways were deactivated, as a junkyard. However, Osea has since abandoned the junkyard facilities and there is nothing there anymore, other than some decaying buildings and maybe some aircraft husks. As for the photographs of the aircraft you have, all I can tell you is that they do not belong to Osea. I'm not going to speculate about who they belong to. JournalistPerson- ... (As an aside, bonus points to random Osean government official's argument if the 444th air base isn't located inside Osean territory.) ------ REAL WORLD EXAMPLES (maybe, I could be talking out of my ass). I'm pretty sure the United States government has never officially admitted that there is a facility at Area 51, even though everyone can see that there are buildings there and that vehicles come and go. They just continue to deny that it even exists, despite the obvious. Additionally, I think you could view the Spare squadron in similar lines as the French Foreign Legion. They're an arm of the French military that can be used with less controversy than normal French troops. TL;DR: Spare is an Osean paramilitary squadron. Ace Combat Fan, I love your videos. Good use of the Ace Combat X soundtrack referencing that it is in the future in 2019 and close to the Aurelian war at 2020 and possibly Diego Navarro might have something to do in this war as well as he is in control of Leasath and he wants to become more wealthy by increasing arms sales as said in the history of ACX

Also, i think shooting down an ally it's too low for 3 marks, supposing that there are 7 "levels" of marks because of that sin thing, at first i believed that trigger would ignore a direct order and being punished for it, but i also think it's too low, and now i think that bombarding civilians would make for it, but not just 1 or 2 bombs/blocks... Maybe something like Hoffnung happened and the highers blamed Trigger?

I wish that bandai plans too add a number of missions rather than focus only to multiplayer

I like the story making them a penal unit. Kinda takes us away from the squeaky clean national hero of past games and will introduce some drama. However I find the concept a jet fighter penal unit to be strange. The only scenario that would really work in is if you have more jets than pilots and you would have to be pretty desperate to give a criminal a jet fighter even if they have prior experience and there are safe guards in place.

The secret weapon on the arsenal bird is likely to be some form of EMP. Think of that as a stronger version of the lightning in the valley, same mechanism, just made stronger. This would also mean that the developer didn't need to design a separate mechanism, the round blue light + propagation seems to indicate that it would be similar to the lightning.

As a flight simmer I know that the Russian Millitary is highly secretive of their aircraft so it comes as a suprise that a cockpit of the PAK-FA was actually modeled. Secondly, the radar is likely a RWR (Radar Warning Reciever) which alerts the pilot to other aircraft and divides them by priority of danger. Usually closer rings to the center equal a more dangerous foe (and not actual proximity to the target).

Maybe the sunsets and rises hint to variable weather and daytime cycles during the missions. For example the sun setting when you start the mission and the final part of the mission being in night time.

It'd be awesome if in one mission you're squadron is being overrun by the enemy (think WMD in AC6) and then the Ghosts of Razgriz come out of nowhere to save you. Sounds cliche, but I'd love to see throwbacks from AC04 and AC5 in here. They also use an earlier model F-35A for the F-35 model. The primary teller is the RAM coating has a base gray and then a lighter grey around panels and such. The new RAM paint scheme is all the same color thought the airframe. it was changed to primarily reduce cost but also further reduced its radar signature. Strangest thing happened to me couple a days ago. My friend called me and tricked me in to stop by the nearest GameStop shop because they had Ace Combat 7 on preorder. I naturally went there, and of course there was NO preorder. I was very angry at my friend. However, while I was there browsing other games I suddenly heard very familiar song on the shops speakers. They were playing Blurry from Puddle Of Mudd! It immediately brought smile on my face.

In 13:12 in the video with the Arsenal bird, I have a strong feeling that the Arsenal bird is using an ECM or like Ace Combat infinity with the Butterfly masters Quax drones, it uses the same principles to block destroy missiles

my best guess for the cheeki arsenal bird weapon would be an EMP, you can see the HUD go dark for a few frames after the pulse hits

@Ace Combat Fan, that island heavily reminds me of an opening mission in Ace Combat 2, where enemy B52 bombers escorted by fighters were bombing the exact same island and base! And the player had to defend (?) that island and base either with A4 or MiG-21. Also, talking about fleet diversity, if you remember the opening scene, there was a Su-35 and a F-22 launching from aircraft carrier to eliminate two MiG-21. I wondered at that time why US and Russian aircraft would operate together. Please take a close look at opening mission of AC2!

I think the tailcode of the Hornet might actually say 'AO'. If that's the case, then the Hornet might be from the Albatross, which is a carrier that has been mentioned a few times in gameplay.

All these references to the sun reminded me of a nightmare I had several months ago about what was at the end of the space elevator in the game. In the dream, it extended to an impossible distance out in space, and led to a massive space structure that was enclosed around a cluster of stars far off somewhere, but this group of suns turned out to be the eyes of a cosmic demonic entity.

What if theoretically at some point the game lets you change sides? You get a chance to escape the penal unit turning on the actual air force squadron and flying to euresean airspace.

It would make sense that the AWACS would be there primarily to keep an eye on the squadron so they dont escape while they are on mission, then secondarily conduct mission duties, dont you think acf?

Pretty sure that boneyard is where the F-104 is going to come from. Not in service currenly retired last by the luftwaffe. Would bet they run out of planes and have to go to the boneyard! Either way I'm beyond stoked!!!

You should also have mentioned that the rafales canards are not pointung upwards when pitching up which is more accurate to real life since the canards are actually more for stabilizing than for steering.

The "unidentified forest" looks like the terrain from ace combat 5 when you escort mother goose 1. I pray that they don't have dog fight mode from ace combat assault horizon, I hated how it felt like my moves were limited. I also hope for a "HUD" view then just third person or first person, and the arsenal bird's blue ring might be an ECM like the one seen in ace combat zero, that would explain all those missles I see in the trailer that look like they were aimed at the arsenal bird but turned.

I'd assume the plane (and tail code) variety in the Spare squadron comes from the pilots being transferred with the in assigned planes, the ones they did the stuff in. (And I'd say the tail code on the Hornet is AO, not AD, but dunno.)

When I see the Desert recalls it my first Ace Combat Memories. Man, I played Northern Wings so often. Hopefully will I be avle to fly my Heartbreak One, otherwise will I just throw that game into the junk. I miss AC∞.

I think Trigger was charged with treason, kinda like Kurt Irving from Valkyria Chronicles 3, or attacking civilians and was given the choice of joining Spare Squadron or going to prison.

Trivia; in East Asian culture, 4 sounds similar to the word "death" so it's a fairly appropriate number (444th AirBase) to give to a couple of convict pilots on death row isn't it?

my 2cents, other than EMP/plot device i think its also works more as targeting system, my guess is when the ring expand and hits your plane, other than temporarily stunning you the arsenal bird will send extra numbers of drones to dealt you with based on how close and position you can get to the arsenal bird so if you are closing in from certain directions and really close to the Arsenal Bird, they will sent LOTS of drones to stop you it can be a good challenge to older fans who obviously have experience dealing with same kind of mothership + a way to troll people who thinks rear side are unprotected and i'm pretty sure the one who made the Arsenal Bird also learnt from previous war records

Maybe the different planes and squadron emblems can be explained by the fact that all of them originally were from different squadrons, but now are forced to fly together because penal squads are made up of random pilots with different origins, who disobeyed orders or something similar
