Seriously, I was expecting a generic video of "button mashing bad, combos good. Get gud" but the amount of depth and detail in this is 🤯. I legit learned more on how to play fighting games from this 16min video then I have from +10 years of actually playing them with friends.
>calls video “why button mashing doesn’t work” >proceeds to give a very straightforward yet comprehensive analysis of everything you need to know to understand fighting games Based core-A
It all has to do with button mashing. No click bait here. Everything he talked about was related and gave you the full explanation as in to why actually thinking about what buttons your pressing works over just mashing. Goes into the technical and mental parts of it.
@@imalittletoxicjustalittle Losing horribly while having no idea what they're doing wrong is a bigger turn off. When people lose and don't know why, they tend to get very incorrect ideas about how the games work. "This move is so unfair, there's nothing you can do about it," they'll say about a grab, or an overhead, or a low, or an invincible move that's actually punishable but they don't know the concept of punishing. "Combos are so unfair, I just get hit and then I can't even get back up again (because they don't understand the basics of the wake up game)."
Lure em in with a nice casual question and hit them with the most understandable and uncomplicated explaination of fighting game basics out there? How could you.
This entire video is basically a frametrap where you thought you would get simple question. The moment you clicked on it after it popped up in your feed.
@@tavonnewiggins4886 I'll be the party pooper to point out that it's incorrect though lol. Noctis is the genative form of the Latin word Nox, meaning night. So Noctis would be something like "of night" or "night's". The plural form is Noctium.
"Why does button mashing not work against them?" Proceeds to explain the fundamentals of fighting games in the best compact format there has ever existed
@@neojackwastaken jokes on them, I'm going to forget every single one of these notes the second I turn on a game and resort to button mashing once again
The V-sauce of the FGC On a serious note I guess what he's trying to say is that button mashing has no strategy behind it and every move in a fighting game requires a lot of strategizing and timing.
Until they read your habits. Then they have yet another advantage to school you with. Hunter x Hunter SPOILERS Meruem vs Netero Even with a theoretically perfect moveset, Netero still had habits and patterns that Meruem eventually exploited.
I honestly cant stand todays fighting games because pros as seen here can learn all this shit to the point where I never understood it myself. Left the scene after Alpha 2 and right as third strike was making waves. Watching this video and having all of this explained to me In a way I can actually understand might just get me back into trying them again to see what I've been missing out on and to see what tips from here I can grasp onto.
I'm returning to the 2D fighting games at age 35 and your videos help me so much to overcome my limitations and understanding what my brother did when playing against me. I'm replacing my long time frustration to a sense of learning and appreciation towards the games and my brother. Thank you for helping so much with each video you make.
This is like benevolent clickbait. Like if I clicked one of those "Get your dongus longus in 4 ez steps" ads, but the instructions were for establishing a 401K.
Thats not mashing. Button mashing literally means pressing random fire buttons. What you mean is button tapping or spamming which means rapidly pressing the same button over and over again.
@@Mr.9 It is. It's not the """"same"""" kind of Fighting game than the others though, just like Smash Bros isn't like any other general fighting game either (I mean, Rivals of Aether wouldn't exist without Smash, but Undernight for example would ) .
Choke point a game where the whole purpose is to fight another player using a variety technique and strategy is by definition a fighting game it’s just a 3D fighting game
This. I love fighting games but I really am terrible at most of them, and even reading the terminologies and spending time on practice still has me overwhelmed and lost with a lot of stuff. This video is so detailed yet concise with the gameplay elements and concepts it really gave me a whole lot better understanding of these mechanics in fighting games.
Nachy just focus on basics first. Like in MVC2 I started with Blackheart as my anchor. All that I really needed to know was how to push block and that hard kick and hard punch threw out demons also his anti air assist was one of the best in the game. Doing and knowing just that helps a lot. I show that to new players at this barcade that had the game and they quickly get an edge over their friends just knowing those basics with one character in a 3v3 fighter. Then just knowing which assists to have for cover fighter during neutral helps. Sure, they can be used to extend combos as well, but working on cover and zoning is simpler and easier to help you get into the game. Things like that, just learn basics first, then do the more advanced things afterwards.
I'm Justin Y. & I Post Pointless Trash it’s pretty fun. I’ve yet to run into anyone who can beat me in MK2, MK3, SF2CE, SF2T, or MvC2 in the two near me.... Well no one who can beat me when I use my mains or a counter pick. Only a few rare souls who’ve forced me to use my main or a counter pick to win. The fun part is trying to show someone the most simple and basic thing they can do to win. They’re stumbling new into MvC2 like I was when it came out... only worse, they’re drunk and don’t play fighting games much. So my job is to show them it’s not so hard to play with the basics and it’s actually pretty fun.
Button mash = mixing up pressing all buttons randomly (mashing - mixing) Button spam/tapping = rapidly pressing same button over and over. sorry, I had to, love you brotha
@@xeno4693 Imagine not being able to come up with anything good for a remark so you look to the original posters channel to find something to make fun of them for. You're a real champ you know that?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like this video is an absolute masterpiece. The background music selection and timing are immaculate; the information is clear and well-explained; this whole video actually feels like a starter guide to 2D-fighter games. It makes me feel like I can share it with my button-masher friends. I love it!
I think being able to have fun while only utilizing the basics like the last guy on the list, is something to strive for. I don't like doing my homework on a game and losing because I'm over thinking and only utilizing moves based on pressure or nervousness.
As someone who just started getting into fighting games, this video honestly blew me away. So much beginner friendly information delivered in a concise way with godly editing too? This is quality
@@Derpinurface Started Learning some stuff in SF2 and SF3 but then I realized there isn't really much of a community near me. So now I'm learning Fighterz
That is basically me, but barely knowing how to do a fireball and even less combo knowledge. Just know timings of when to attack and always spam the fastest attacks.
I feel like I just cracked open the Bible and have been shown the way. For YEARS most of these frame and + - terminology has soared over my head, but now I finally understand.
Hey, Jared. Good stuff. I've been binge-ing your fighting games analysis videos for a couple of days now and I think you did a great job explaining all the fighting game concepts that even a beginner can understand. Hats off to you man :)
Masterpiece. Fantastic breakdown of obtuse and genre-specific mechanics. Hope I can get my friends into fighting games, and I'll for sure show them this as a tutorial.
TODAY: 16 minute video defining how to get frame-advantages in attacks and defenses with videos from dozens of different games and 60,000 dollar tournaments. 1991: "Eh, don't bother patching out that combo glitch; nobody is ever going to find it."

dude, you're the one who lured me to fighting games again. been practicing two months long in street fighter and tekken-just because of your videos. i watch these vids everytime just because i can. solid content.
This is seriously one of the best fighting game analysis videos of all time and my favorite video on the channel. Even though the video is about "Why Mashing Doesn't Work" it ends up dissecting fighting games to its very core; frame data, footsies, movement, etc so good.
Finally, a video that cleanly summarizes the neutral meta and more, which helps me understand fighting game terminology way more than watching hundreds of tournament matches and wiki-ing terminology. Welcome back, Core-A-Gaming
I subbed to you a while ago, dunno why, then didn't really watch your videos until recently, now I'm loving them! so well made, clear and full of interesting information!
this is a really good video. i love how the little clips PERFECTLY illustrate what's being said, like when you're talking about ways around neutral and you show how tokido beat punk at evo 2018. for people who might not understand that clip, punk was playing karin, a character which excels at playing footsies, and punk is a player with one of the most solid understandings of the neutral game around. tokido's character, akuma, is no slouch in the neutral game, and tokido as a player is amazing as well, but he's arguably worse than punk at just playing a straight up game. so, tokido used akuma's ways AROUND the neutral game to destroy punk.
This is gonna blowup, 1m+ views. You did it man you explained the most complex parts of fighting games in a way everybody even a slight bit interested can understand and remember. Write a book sir, I will be one of many many more willing to buy it. This is your 'Art of War', a cohesive explanation on things most will never even think of on their own. many thanks brother ✓
Thank you so much for creating this content man, I’m so glad I found your channel. The effort that goes into your videos is insane. I’ve just started playing tekken 7 recently and these videos have helped so much but also make me wish I had picked up the game earlier ❤️❤️
I've seen so many videos, read so many tutorials and played so many rounds in various fighting games, but this one video was made so well, I finally feel like I ACTUALLY understand the fundamentals of fighting games. Well done. I'm speechless
That's what I said after watching, I didn't expect to get such a surge of information from this one video alone I'm still going to suck, but now I know what I should be looking to learn
I dunno. This isn't the first A-core video I've ever seen, and most of them aren't actually that great at making fighting games understandable to someone who doesn't really know much about how they work. Full of jargon that isn't explained and so on. So... I wouldn't lay it all at the video creator... This video is special even for an A-core video...
total newbie here. i've been wanting to get into fg for a while and i just bought UNIST yesterday so finding this gem of an informative video was the cherry on top as i start my fg journey!! seriously, thank you for uploading this video. it was accessible and straightforward. definitely gonna bookmark this for reference.
I was always daunted by all these fighting game concepts, they kinda seemed too far beyond what I could understand. You my man, have been the only person that's been able to get me to understand all this stuff. Thank you so much.
Seriously I'm astonished every time I see how high-quality your edited videos are. Amazing video despite click-bait title. You deserve ALOT more subscribers.
Thank you so much, it was difficult for me to understand frame advantage until this video. I knew the general idea but I appreciated the specificity here.
The most didactic video about fighting games mechanics, ever! Every player (even the old ones) should watch this. This is perfect to introduce anyone who are willing to learn fighting games properly.
Yeah! The most time we listen to things like "it's robbery", "not fair" or at least, when are some knowledge, "this have more/less priority", but in the most cases lacks of clean vision on why the things happen the way they do. Everyone can understand the rules behind the most games, but FGs... Feeling play a big share of FGs and because of that rules can be put aside sometimes... I mean, no one complains about pay rent in Monopoly after role the dices. You know what I'm saying?
The amount of depth and detail in this is 🤯. I legit learned more on how to play fighting games from this 16min video then I have from +10 years of actually playing them with friends. Subbed
This is The FGC chanel If you want to know the basics or the history from some fighting games this is the chanel you need But the best part is that you don't get dizzy with the many information, the tier God edit, real life information (it feels so profesional everything) and cool music are awsome
Dog I wish I had seen this video years ago, this basically compiled what took me two years of learning fighting game knowlegde into an easy to understand 16 minute video. You rock, man, please keep doing what you're doing
Excellent video. Especially the framedata section. I'll use this vid as reference any time someone claims you might as well just mash in a particular game.
I love how you give the answer at the start of the video so people who just wanted to know can leave satisfied and the people that wanna know more can stick around.
Whoa, someone just told me you used T7 Chicken in your video! I'm the one that started the T7 Chicken project, I just want to say that it's awesome knowing you've installed it. Thank you!
I have been rewatching all the old videos this week. Blew me away to see a title I hadn't seen already and then noticed the upload time. Turning on notifications for sure now! 😅
Honestly, we're in a fighting game renaissance right now. Video games are still a very young media with fighting games being a sub genre. There's like 10+ fighting games that are popular you can choose from sfv, tekken 7, uniclr, mk11, gran blus vs, sam sho, soul calibur, kyanta 2, third strike, and smash ultimate. Plus all the other valued classics.
