Now You have to check out Fernando Alonso's radio msgs as those give a totally different kinda Alonso in is competitive, Confronting, yet jovial attitude especially dealing with different conflicts and situations... And being open and upfront with his criticisms. Kimi was the oldest driver to be in F1 and now it's Alonso. Alonso was high achieving, talented, unorthodox, competitive racing driver who won 2 world championships, then all the teams he went to didn't perform well, still him struggling and perservering through those days. Then in 2018 leaving F1 to try out other events performing well there and then returning to F1 again in 2022 when he saw potential in a team and now finally in 2023 he picked the right team at te right time who are on an upward trajectory unlike all his previous ventures. Really talented driver, great personality in the sport, passionate, competitive, not to be messed with kinda guy..but a good team player if he chooses to be... And most of all very much hungry.. to stay in F1 after returning at the age of 42 years.

That "intense" comes from the fact, that journalist and Alonso had very long lasting romantic connection... And, I guess, that's also the reason why she is interviewing him and not somebody else.

The intensity you picked up on definitely translates to his driving. I think he's still good into his forties because he never got nicer behind the wheel. You see a lot of drivers become gentler as they get older, and it costs them some of their competitive edge. Alonso's still great.
@maxpbeaumont

Interesting. Makes sense. That’s why they say “young and hungry”. Takes a special competitor to have that drive/edge as they get older.

Fernando is being quite formal in this video since its a video for one of their sponsors Bang Olufsen, hes quite funny this season of F1 (2023) in other interviews and on the radio during races

Extra info: this lady was his girlfriend at the time! Fernando has the strongest heart in F1 since winning the world title in 2005! He seems to be a very tough man and quite reserved, but at the same time he has another side to him. He is also probably the best humorous (skilfull and smartest on track) driver of his era, certainly of the current drivers. A lot of people like other guys because they're funny, but being funny and actually being humorous are two different things. There are some funny video montages of him about it. I hope there will be more videos of Alonso and other drivers who have raced before! Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, (or the Legendary Senna-Stewart interview)......i like older drivers, today drivers.....robots, not all of course, but I see that they are different. You saw Kimi earlier. He is different, Fernando also different. These guys and older guys drove monster cars almost as kids. They have balls.

I got to meet Fernando at a Mild Seven Renault event in 2004. Back then he wasn't yet world champion but he was starting to impress everyone. What struck me most about him is that he's actually quite shy and reserved. He was frankly surprised at the number of people at the event because I saw his reaction the minute he came out of the VIP entrance into the stage. I honestly believe he thought very few would attend it. The people closest to him have often said that the Fernando Alonso we know on the grid and in the media is more a persona he inhabits and that the real Fernando is more quiet and introspective.

really? i gotta see a hot-headed version of Alonso
@rumblefish9
@rumblefish9 Год назад
@@maxpbeaumont It's not really hot-headed. Its frustration. Anyone in this position would feel the same. Mclaren were plagued with reliability issues, engine troubles and a car slower than a GP2 car. Even when he was saddled with terrible cars, he put them in positions they had no right to be in. Just see Azerbaijan 2018. A first lap incident (that another driver caused) caused Alonso to get damage on his floor, front and tyres. He limped that Mclaren back to the pits on 2 tyres, got a new front, tyres and continued the race and limped a damaged car to 7th place! He has always been the type to wear his heart on his sleeve and he made his grievances known (understandable).

Fernando Alonso is Spanish as me, and We know him a lot because the local TV. He is very clever and very realistic. He seems serious but then He goes with weird jokes hahahaha. He is so funny. As I Stan Stray Kids, I can compare him with Lee Know. They have a sarcastic humor and they seem serious but they are a bit shy. Then, they have a lot of passion on his stuff but not really interested in the other things related with, like tv interviews,... heheh. He was married to a Spanish singer and he was on the press for that and he was really mad.
@gemmentachip

He did a lot of TV but related to F1. He became so closer with the journalists that covered all the F1 tour every year and They made a lot of funny stuff. Yes, He is quite intense in his pro stuff. He became a driver champion at Kars at 4 years old. hehe. Also, he is from the north of Spain, Asturias. He is a bit more serious like than south people like me but for real, Alonso is so funny when he is joking. I hope I helped You a bit.

This doesn't really represent him as a person. First of all it's his then girlfriend interviewing him, which always creates a different vibe. Second, this is indeed a more serious conversation while Alonso is one of the funniest guys. Relaxed but still driven after 22 years in this game. Watch some other videos with him and the other drivers or interviewers after the race. Yes, he is indeed "intense"or as I call it: passionate! LJ

so happy you're reacting to f1 again! that was such a weird interview to be introduced to alonso haha but at the same time it was really interesting to see what you could guess, completely uninfluenced by all that we fans already know. alonso is quite unserious in my opinion, i mean he is really intense when it comes to racing but the rest of the time he can get hot-headed, petty and a bit "cheeky". there are a lot of funny moments of him haha i think he is a very fascinating person (in a good way!)

I would love to react to older or less formal videos of Alonso. While you’re right to pick up on his intensity he also has a more sarcastic and humorous side which is very different from this interview. His older stuff also show his more competitive and hotheaded temper.

Very interesting one, but he seems so business because the interview is very much that, just a part of the Job. You should seek out for some sort of compilation of "the other Alonso", team radios, press conferences after races, his social media stuff, that man loves to see the world burn. It's interesting, that you could get some hints of his, I think, more real self in this interview, wich was with the sponsor of his new team and seemingly he just played along. Very good interpretation of yours, tho. Even with material that isn't that representative.

The *very* interesting thing about this interview: the woman interviewing him is his recent ex-girlfriend. This interview shows a great deal of professionalism on both their parts; that's certainly not a situation I'd be capable of facing. Fernando is one of the self-styled antiheroes of F1, stating that he's on the "dark side". In spite of that - and this is only due to his interaction with fans and observation coupled with possible projection based on my experiences with people who seem intimidating - I have a sense that there's a kindness to him and within him. He certainly has a playful side and a sense of humor, being the deck chair enthusiast and amateur cameraman that he is. I believe it was Sebastian Vettel who said that every world champion has a bastard within him, a level of selfishness and ruthlessness necessary to reach the top tier of one of the most elite sports in the world. I wonder how they manage to face and reconcile that with their lives/behavior as husbands, partners, and fathers. Anyway, if you're interested in learning more about him, Fernando recently did a long interview (a rare thing for him) that might be worth looking up.

It’s definitely a rabbit hole since there’s so much history between them, but I’d be interested to see what you think of Lewis Hamilton with Nico Rosberg. They were childhood friends, became teammates in Mercedes in 2013, and basically imploded their friendship in their quests for a/more championship(s). Nico still has good things to say about Lewis in media but you’d be very lucky to witness Lewis even saying Nico’s name at all now. (They still live in the same apartment building & Lewis still gifts Nico’s daughters presents frequently)

Alonso in interviews reminds me of Senna to some extent. It would be great if you could do an analysis of some of his interviews too, as I think he's one of the most intense individuals ever. Very thoughtful, very careful with his answers, with a great presence. The interesting thing with Senna though is he has such a wide spectrum of behavior, depending on the circumstances, but always very controlled.

It's kinda funny. I'm from Spain too but Mediterranean, he's from Northern part of Spain ""commonly"" more kind of cold people. Most people abroad believes that, it kinda is like that. But as Mediterranean, which you expect tis or tat... I always look in to the eyes when I talk to people, even as an introvert, always. It sure gives intesting vibes about me. Some feel way way way more "attacked" in some sort of way and other go full "I can see you are a true person". I'm a man of few words too, guess that helps but, making eye contact during conversation unless you're a snake it sure will help people to at least notice you.

Very right about him not being a people pleaser. F1 is a british spot in it's core and that honesty Fernando has wasn't well regarded when he was fighting for bigger things. The media painted him as the problematic bad guy and he decided to asume that role within the F1 competition.
