You're right - we need more anime music analysis videos; hope to see more from your channel.

So first off, I do disagree a bit with your thoughts on the guitar ending of the piece at the beginning as I think it ends like that to give a warmer conclusion as that coincides with Rei's tone and his words at the end. I do agree that they should have drawn the glass note out longer or found another way to bring the tone even further down before making that uptick at the end as it would have made the uplifting conclusion much more distinct and powerful. Second, great video overall. I really would love for more to focus on and go into detail on the music used in anime.

That's a good point. I think my primary issue - something that only occurred to me while editing the video - was that the shift in tone from morose to more uplifting/hopeful towards the end of the song is rather abrupt. It it was a bit smoother I think ending would fit a lot better. Glad you enjoyed!

I talked about the music all the time with my friends, I feel this is so overlooked, but the music is incredible, from the French Song in episode one, to it's use of Saxaphone in one episode (can't remember which one), to whatever scene, the music is so perfect with the atmosphere and mood, that it is just amazing.

Season Two is brilliant, I don't know how much you've seen, but originally, I think due the fact I didn't pay as much attention as I should have and watched it mostly when I was tired, Sangatsu no Lion was my #7. After an episode, it hit #5, and in the episode after that, it jumped three ranks into #2, now, the most recent episode made it #1. Let me just say this, if season one was all about creating and establishing characters, telling us what we need to know about them, then season two is about growing and developing the characters. The Rei we see in episode 31 is not the same Rei we see in episode 1, and it is so great to see. Watch it, NOW

I'm glad someone started focusing on music in anime. Kinda sad though I legitimately wanted to be the first one to focus a channel on it. But I'm such a procrastinator that I'm not bitter lol

I am looking for the sheet music for the piano piece that starts at 5:30. The piece's name is One Blow composed by Yukari Hashimoto.

It's great as well. I didn't have the time to analyze every song so I just chose this part.

I’ve been looking for the name of the ost for that first scene with Rei and Kyioko. Any ideas what it might be called?

Isn't the guitar meant to show a hint on how he can help her? Maybe you were too focused on how the song related to Kyouko without taking into acount Rei's role in the piece.

If that is the case, I believe it could have been done far better. For the majority of the piece, the guitar's contribution is quite the opposite, so this tonal shift comes off as fairly jarring and not quite in character with the scene as a whole. In retrospect, I think it works okay when you isolate that particular moment (which is why I don't think the brief clip I show does my point justice) but as a conclusion to the entire lengthy scene I don't think it's fitting.

Let me change my stance on the role of the guitar. I rewatched the scene while paying close attention to when the guitar plays. First, at first, when Kyouko enters his room and talks to him, there is not guitar. Then when he talks to describe her as a broken glass, the guitar begins to play very subtly, very softly. It shows how worried he is for her. The next scene, Rei is in front of Kyouko's room in the intent of dissuading her to leave. The guitar is then more present in the song, because they are discussing. At one moment, the glass intstrument becomes quieter and the guitar stops playing. It happens when she says: "It's infuriating. How long do I have to feel this pathetic?" I believe the guitar stopped playing because what she is saying is not addressed to Rei, she talks to herself. However, when Rei starts talking again, the guitar doesn't play right away. It may be because what Rei says about leaving himself doesn't confort her, but the guitar starts playing and overtaking the song when he says that she is important to her dad.All of this makes me believe the guitar is a symbol of what can heal the glass. It began softly maybe because he was describing her and only constating her state, and played louder when he was dissuading her to leave, because deeply she wants to be convinced. It didn't play when she was feeling pathetic nor when Rei said he'd leave, because it's not helping her feel better. However hearing him say how important she is to her dad, the guitar overtake the song because Rei won the argument; she didn't deny what he said.Maybe I am wrong in my interpretations, but I am 100% certain that the guitar is vital piece to the music to describe the scene and the feelings of the characters involved.

Episode 15 had some great music, but I think Episode 10 is one of the strongest episodes in the anime music wise. Great video though. I’d love it if you did one of these videos for Episode 10.
