Anansi the Spider pretends to be dead so he doesn't have to do any work.
(Come on, we've all pulled a sickie, just trust Ananse to take it to extremes)
Anansi or Ananse (literally 'spider') is an Akan folktale character associated with stories, wisdom, knowledge, and trickery, most commonly depicted as a spider. Taking the role of a trickster, he is also one of the most important 'Culture Heroes' of West African, African American and West Indian folklore.
Originating in Ghana, these spider tales were transmitted to the Caribbean by way of the transatlantic slave trade.
That's the thing with tricksters, they don't stay in one place, and like to move around, before anyone gets wise to their tricks!
This is part of my 'Trickster Makes This World' series of videos about the Archetype of the Trickster, and his many manifestations in world mythology.

Pull up a chair at the bar and pour yourself a rum.... (you have to provide the rum, obviously, I can't do that, unless you want me to pour it through the keyboard and break my laptop again) Or, you can buy me a rum through Patreon! 👇😅 patreon.com/TheStoryCrow?

Thanks for the Vodou or Candomble story. Love the Orixa tales. We have some strange similarities with West Africa. I saw roundhouses and a stone circle in The Gambia.

Great story. Another similar is the Tar Baby from Uncle Remus Br'er Rabbit tales

Ahhh, yeah I’m not surprised there’s a similar Br’er rabbit one, so much crossover with those African diaspora tricksters 🐇 🕷️

Thankyou. ☯️ John Holt? I love reggae music. The trickster story I was brought up with up here in the North of England is the Brer rabbit. Im not sure if it's a Welsh tale but we were taught it here with the tar baby.

Think it is John holt. Yeah me too. Woah, there’s Brer Rabbit stories in England? Pretty sure it’s west African in origin, then to the americas, then back to Blighty apparently. Those tricksters do travel. 😆

@@TheStoryCrow The Rabbit or Hare has similar stories worldwide, it's curious and it seems that the story has travelled, but I think the connection is the Animals character and traits E.G the Moon and them appearing at Dusk and Dawn (the witching hour or transitions) hence the association with portals.

What a cool Tiki bar! What's in your grog, Mate? Looks like dark rum [Diplomatico] Lime and Mint sprigs. My favorite is the 1944 Trader Vic's MaiTai. [With some personal tweaks]. 1.5 oz Light Rum 1.5 oz Dark Rum Juice of One Lime [1 oz] (or five Key Limes) 1/2 oz Gran Marnier 1/2 oz Orgeat [Almond milk with spices and lime] 8 oz Crushed Ice. Shaken, not stirred. Dirty pour into Old Fashioned glass, Top with Spent Lime Shell with Mint Sprigs sticking out of the Lime -- resembling palms on a island. Mai Tai Roa Ae!

Ooooooh, that sounds like a proper hearty grog. Mines not actually diplomatico, it’s just in a diplomatico bottle 😂 I wouldn’t tarnish a proper diplomatico with coke 😆 Yup mint from the marsh behind me and lime from… Aldi

@@TheStoryCrow I like the Coca Cola from Mexico. It has cane sugar not HFCS and tastes like old Coke, pre-1980s. I have a couple Mint plants on my kitchen window sill, but I'm visiting a Marine Buddy in rural Washington state. Over 1000 miles from my home in Tucson. So cool and green here. I'm hoping the sun doesn't fry my Mints.

YES I remember the cola from Mexico, how good it was in the glass bottles. Never knew that’s why it was…
