I'm 28 years old with deadly food allergies and I wish I'd learned earlier how anaphylaxis works, this video demystified it for me and made the threat a lot less scary, thanks!

I am a paramedic student and you just solidified my understanding of anaphylaxsis. Thank you so much. I was also confused about what actually happened, even after I got my EMT. THANK YOU!!

I am actually an EMR (Canada) student and this is part of our homework. It also make me better understand how allergies works. I’m wondering now if it is a genetic issue or something in the cells DNA ? 🤨 Like why some have allergies and some don’t.

Aug 1 2021 was chilling outside trying to enjoy my turkey sandwich. All the sudden a yellow jacket bit my upper lip. Within 2 minutes I felt itchiness on my hands and feet. Rush into the house to jump into the shower hoping to feel better. Within 5 minutes after the sting I passed out on the bathroom floor. Don't know how long I was unconscious. Finally crawling into my bedroom looking for phone to call 911 while struggling to breathe and talk to a dispatcher while chocking to death. I was in and out of consciousness. In the meanwhile my bile was moving uncontrollably with stomach pain and nauseous. EMT finally arrived while I was trying to crawl back onto the toilet. Yep had full diarrhea while people stared at me pooping and passing out and failed down from the toilet. Weaken muscle laying on the floor with my own fece and all I've heard EMT saying there's something else going on. I struggled to breathe and scream no just bee!!!!!!! They literally had to drag me out the door into the ambulance and pumped benadryl epinephrine, steroids, hooked up on IVs and hurt fully clipped my gel nail to monitor my blood pressure on the way to the ER. Within 10 minutes from enjoying a Turkey sandwich in the backyard to fighting for my life in an ambulance. Closest to death I've ever experienced. Been perfectly healthy 51 years of my life and never thought I could be allergic to anything other than seasonal allergies. ER doctor confirmed it was anaphylactic shock and now having to carry epi pen with me at all times as the next insect bite will be deadly. Definitely going to make appointment to see an allergist for wasp Hornets and other infectious allergies. Bummer I'm such a nature lover now I have to be extremely careful. Bee sting venom affects your vital organs especially your lungs your heart and your bowel. Needless to say it was a shztty Sunday but thank God I'm still alive and want to go to the beach and travel around the world and dream of traveling to space before I pass this earth to the next life. Count your blessings and love your loved ones before it is too late. 😭🙏🧡

It's horrible. I was actually in anaphylactic shock. It happened so fast I couldn't believe it. I was barely moving air by the time paramedics arrived and in the ambulance I stopped breathing altogether. I thought his face was going to be the last thing I saw.

Thank you so much I was taking penicillin and then my legs became string beans and I went down fast. Luckily I had only taken part of the pill for some reason . I had taken penicillin before in the past and thought nothing of it. I started to pass out. My friend came into the room just then and I couldn't hear him and everything started to turn black and his face was a little circle. I laid there a while and then could hear and could see again. And waited till the paramedics came and took me to the hospital.

Thanks so Much this is super helpful: Quick question I understand that you cant have immunologic anaphylaxis on your first exposure as the immune system needs to be primed, but is it possible to have non-immunological anaphylaxis first exposure as the allergen directly acts on MAST cells and theres no need for IGE? Cheers!

It's nice to also add (Since this is medicine) that there is an isotype switching error, since the b-cell "Should" produce IgG/M, but something goes wrong in communication between T-cell and B-cell, that makes the B-cell create IgE instead, which then attach to mastcell /Basophil

the way i see it if i had too choose between ventilating the patione with CPAP or BiPAP and giving them epinephrine i would reach for the epi pen first as that is also a treatment for maintaining the airway due to smooth muscle dilation, then pop them on ventilaion

As I got older my tree nut allergies seemed to evolve from slight trouble breathing and puking to no trouble breathing and instead agonizing pain all throughout my entire body to the point where epinephrine injections have no effect. A lot of people can grow out of allergies as they grow older, but I was triggered multiple times, either through accident or on purpose due to some giant asshole who thought it would be a good idea to murder me. Though I wonder what the difference between peanuts and tree nuts are, because I can eat peanuts just fine.

What if you get hives all over but not have trouble breathing?
@qwinbee9455
@qwinbee9455 5 лет назад
mizzhllywd it can progress to anaphylaxis so you better be careful and take your meds immediately. Don’t think that allergies wont do anything to you just because you still can function well. Hives isnt dangerous itself but it’s a sign that something is wrong. Don’t wait for it to go away on it’s own. I used to do that. Sometimes it’s fine but twice in my life I got into anaphylaxis because I was stubborn enough to sleep the itchiness thinking that it would go away. You’ll never know. So always have some anti-histamine ready.
@kimnamjoonstrash9571
@kimnamjoonstrash9571 5 лет назад
Usually, Hives alone will not even be considered anaphylaxis let alone anaphylactic shock. Hives all over without any other symptom might be considered only an allergic reaction. For something to be considered anaphylaxis, I believe you do need the involvement of either respiratory, circulatory or gastrointestinal system.

I last showed to the ER with a HR of 45 and a body temperature of 33.3 degrees. I didn't even know it was anaphylaxis but I knew I was dying.
