Such a shame that this universe is not expanded and being worked on for a second installment of the game. If ever Anarchy Online 2 would be announced, I would immediately subscribe to it. :(
totally agree.... The experience will never be the same as back in 2001 ofc.... but, the game itself is amazing (would be even more amazing if they re-did the zones in SL - i think they are pain...)
I was hoping for some form of new content, even if it was a different style of game. But I wouldn't hold your breath. The Devs are extremely uninspired. AO was the only thing that was any good. They likely know they couldn't achieve anything worthwhile and so they still just trade off the nostalgia of an outdated game that will unfortunatly fade away :(
As I was reading this comment I was wondering why anyone would need a new version of this Game. As I played it back in time the visuals were really great. And not just for an Online game. So I checked a few screenshots. Seems like there was a bit of nostalgia effect. I was pretty sure that game looked way better.
Remembering all those choo-choo trains in The Temple of Three Winds... this game was the only thing that me and my way younger brother could agree on and play together having loads of fun. I
In ways of nostalgia.. there are absolutely no equals to this game. I'm older than this game, naturally, and have played plenty a games before it - in the early to mid 90's. I'm born in 87, so when this game came into my posession in 2002 - a bit later than release, since we had no idea it even existed before a random article - we were blown away. At that time the game was HIGHLY popular and actually ran extremely smoothly for everyone. Me, my brother, our cousin and a friend of us all spent SO many Fridays to Saturdays of LAN'ing on this game. Of course we COULD have just played online together, but we got together and played instead. 4 people on one 64Kb ISDN line.. and it worked spectacularly! We had pings of around 100 at worst.. mostly delayed due to the HUB that we used. Such a spartan setup today, but this was right before DSL became common. I have so many memories of that time.. it brings a tear to my eye.
respec man, I only started playing around 2005 (was born in 94), loved the absolute shit out of this game for years though, such a great concept and it really sucks that there has not been even remotely similar since.
born in 89, this MMO was the bee's knee's.... it was complicated, extortionary, vast, exploring took time, learning the game was essential, unlike today's games. and most importantly, the freedom to build your character how you wanted. you could min/max or you could just do something "different" and they were viable. like dagger doctor.
@@goblinphreak2132 It's sad. I blame zoomers. They don't like having to use a braincell in game. So games just get more simple with time. Remember how we all used to imagine that games would get more complex and interesting when they had the tech to make it possible?
@@kayfrenly5460 AO stands forever as the game where you had the most opportunity to make YOUR character. Twinking your character to be the best he/she could be at that specific level and partaking in PvP was so much fun. I spent so many hours doing just that and making the strongest level 60 Enforcer I could possibly do. Some equipment were basic (like that big red sword that I forgot the name of on the fly - from Temple of Three winds), but some others were highly specialized for my use. CAS armor made piece by piece to my "order" using only the FINEST of Notum crystals (or rather, the best quality level as it were within my level reach). On that note tradeskilling in that game was crazily well done. Implants, armor, weapons. I just wish they could have played around that some more rather than making new equipment. That's kind of what Shadowlands messed up in my opinion. The rest even more so. They made "one weapon is best for everything". Still with quality levels so you could twink and that was good, but still messed up some of the joy of going for those min-maxing of specialized weapons like Dirks, Diamondine Kick Pistol (which is, as we remember, just a one handed shotgun for Atroxes). It was so much god damn fun. I want a game like that just one more time. Something advanced, yet easily enough learned on a basic level... and with such a beautiful setting once more. I was so disappointed when they did the "Classic release" of AO which was just basically the current game without the expansions (yet for some reason with idiotic new gear). Grinders also destroyed the natural progression, but that was just a minor thing when compared to the big problem of Funcom's incompetency.
Fighting back a tear. This game had such a wide gambit of action and peace. When it did peaceful, it did it masterfully. When it did action, it was a crazy fun action. I think that the music really set the tone and allowed both to go to the extreme.
It's odd how much nostalgia these tracks evoke. I remember playing AO for the first time and actually feeling like I was in a completely different world, ripe with adventure and possibility. No other game since has been able to recreate a similar emotion. It was pure escapism. I chalk it up to my young age and the uniqueness of the experience when AO first came out. Now I'm older, more cynical and more responsible, and there's more MMO's than I can count, but AO will always have a special place in my heart.
Omni-1 Night Vision 30:00 I can still hear the leets in the training ground, backyard. This was my first MMORPG, i was 23 and the nostalgia is real. AO started my love for MMO's, and over the following years I played countless numbers of them, not all to any great extent, but to enjoy that sense of novelty you get with a new MMO but none could beat that original sense of awe and wonder that AO gave me - stepping out of Rome into Galway Shire and beyond.
Some folks went for Everquest.I went for AO. As a young adult who loved cyberpunk and William Gibson Anarchy Online was my jam far before any other the other games. While I was a longtime player of Ultima Online, AO was utterly Alien and that's what made it unique.
I feel privileged to have experienced massively multiplayer online games in 2001 when it was a brand new thing that only attracted interested nerds. Both on the developpers side, and the players side. This created such an unforgettable experience that has never found a match despite me trying for years. The emotion that was left printed in my mind, apparently for life, can never be found in today's games, it seems.
Always loved the music from this game and how it flows.... really cant wait for FC to take the net step with AO or let a new Dev team take over the project. Truly sitting on gold RPG game mechanics held back by an ancient engine. this game needs a sequel that embodies the original while taking the game to the next level. Have not encountered any other game thats lets you "Twink" the way this does... Its a great feeling wearing armor and using weapons above the level of all current enemies. 40 Levels above your own slipping something on with buffs and items
2001, trying to log into Funcom's servers. Playing for 2 hours at a time for at least 8 months. It was a glorious time. I was awake for 24 hours, trying to log into the Funcom servers to play my Fixer. And then I met a high level Trader. Then I knew, I would be paying a Trader my entire AO existence credits to get my incredible Trader buffs!
I am almost 50 now, duke nukem 3D, quake1 etc.... till i discovered AO. ny nick was RAAKA..... switched the sides a few times, ATROX, Soldier, till i stayed on the OMNI side. my Char was a lvl189..... and i stopped playing it........ but i will NEVER EVER forget those people from the game....... stay save - Raaka, lvl189 Atrox Soldier, Omnitek. (Kai)
One of my favorites too along with Sand Dunes. Sometimes when I'm out in the woods, a park or a mountain admiring the beauty of nature I remember this 50:26 Also brings a tear to my eye...
I am very nostalgic to this day, I had a level 220 Nanotech and was very immersed in this game, I am born in 88 and nothing to this day matches the game experience of AO.
Listening to Omni-1, Inner Sanctum and being projected 20 years ago when I was running back and forth in Rome different districts... the best sci-fi base game MMO (still now). So sad Shadowlands happened...
I remember in 6th grade the first Time we played anarchy online.. Holy shit.. best video game I’ve ever played. Got to play it for 2 weeks before I moved to Florida. Then we didn’t have high speed internet for almost a year. So I would open the game files and listen to the music files and hope for the day I got internet.
For anyone interested, the Anarchy Online IP was recently bought by a Chinese company. They're currently squeezing it for the last little bit of money it holds. They don't care about the game, and this means the source code is unlikely to ever be released, making privately run servers unlikely. Ten years from now you won't be able to go on a nostalgia tour. If anyone with a deep connection to this game knows how to code, can decompile and reassemble stuff from packet captures, you're needed. Otherwise AO will be gone forever, relatively soon.
This brings back such memories. Majestic Omni-1 is still some of my favorite gaming music of all time. I was always a good cooperative citizen of Omni-Tek. Which explains why all the omni music is still my preference on this soundtrack haha.
Atrox Enforcer that went with the Clan if I remember correctly (it's been over 10 years) I did see the omni-tek side for sure but I did enjoy being with the Clan. It seemed like you against the world (Literally) and man... The music in this game is a mix of synth, chill out, atmospheric and ambient music. An amazing game with even more amazing people.
SO GOOD. This is the only mmorpg I’ve ever found interesting/accessible enough to play. Had to quit when I switched to Mac. I don’t even enjoy video games and I still became addicted to this game. I miss it so, so much
Yes. Listen to this Musical Collection in its entirety. Bjørn, Morten and Tor outdid themselves here. Every time we think we have heard every selection somewhere in the game... another song starts up that reminds the Player of even more Anarchy Online. Reminds them of another Zone to walk into... another battle to fight...another exploration to be had... another memory to unlock to share. Enjoy.
That Game almost destroyed my social life and i had to go from the game.......back in 2001......................................., but i still regret it in 2021 lool
It destroyed mine..... I played until early mornings, slept infront of the computer, woke up to play again. I was only outside to buy groceries..... Do I regret? Nope. My life was perfect then and is perfect now. I don't game alot tho... only Overwatch now and then...
Yess, that feeling when you are searching for a cave to start your terminal mission,...i remember doing it to get a mocham's nano crystals or getting pets like Distracting Sphere for my Meta-physicist, Really nostalgic.
The only game soundtracks I'd put above this are from the first three Silent Hill games (as my channel will attest). Just beautifully atmospheric and immersive.
Im not older to play this game and anything, i'm born in 99 and by accident i found this game, on some kind of MMORPG games page i was lucking for, and suddenly there was an image of a woman on a hoverboard. so i downloaded AO and i started playing a little bit and there was no overboard :( so i started dreaming about shadowlands and a membership,my english wasn't good at the time i was 14 by that year, then i started making friends in the game for no reason, and i even was in a organization called: ''Flower is Red'' but i stoped playing like for 3 years and i don't know what happened to that org so i came back in early 2017 paying the membership and i was like: ''wow, so this is shadowlands...'' and i entered a org called Phoenix rising, i really like that org and the people inside of it. and then i got my first hoverboard :), but this game for some reason teached me a lot of stuff i don't know why, even my english level got better, just by chatting with AO players, but i don't know what does this game has that brings you back to it, and by the way i stoped playing all 2018 and 2019 because i don't have money to buy a year membership so i will work has a delivery until i get this motherfucking membership because i fucking love this game and i don't know why.
I've still not found a single game with the complexity of AOs skill point system. I miss tipping players for buffs so I could ladder ridiculous gear onto low level characters. Every other developer just went with the painfully boring level requirements. AO has always deserved a full reboot.
