1. Serenades 2. The Crestfallen EP Huge fan of their original style. Crushingly heavy and emotional at the same time.

My top 3: 1. The Silent Enigma 2. A Natural Disaster 3. Alternative 4 That said, Anathema and The Doors are the greatest bands ever for me. And I love all of their albums (both bands). They are pure magic.

I think that the Silent Enigma and Eternity are the'yre best, but then again it's hard to rank such a consistent band like Anathema.

@@mindful2864 Yeah it’s like Katatonia for me with Anathema’s Discog. where the Death Doom is awesome but the proggy/Doomy stuff I just love more.

I’ve been waiting for this one! Anathema is one of my favorites, but they’re so underrated and relatively obscure that there’s no good content surrounding them on RU-vid. Thanks for making this, now it’ll be a lot easier to introduce people to this amazing band! My personal favorites are Alternative 4 and A Natural Disaster.

Weather Systems is just a masterpiece and very important record for me personally. The live in Plovdiv 2012 still has me in tears every time I watch it. Funnily enough, my ranking would be very similar to yours, maybe switch Serenades one place forward, but that’s just because I’m an old geezer.

I'm huge on their progressive side of things. Distinctive and ethereal and unique delivery. Loving it! Underrated band! They should be up there with Porcupine Tree and Pain Of Salvation and less underground. Quality stuff

Ohh brother, I've been waiting for this one. Everyone I feel has their "signature" or "their" band and Anathema is mine. I first heard back in 97, maybe in 98 Alternative 4 and yes it hit hard! The moodiness matched where l was at the time. I bought then, Eternity, Silent Enigma, Judgement. All were good and loved all the moody, melody and solos. Then 2001 happened that changed my life. No not the Big Event in September, but October. A Fine Day to Exit was released; hauntingly appropriate. At first l didn't know what to think because its so different then all the previous albums. But then l got it and lt quickly became the soundtrack to my life. It was my life for a long loong time. Then N Disaster released it was good and listened to it a lot. As the decade drew to a close and began the healing process. We're Here Because He're Here was released and wow! Once again it was like they were singing to me like they were for A Fine Day. I have great joy with We're Here. Its a album of surrender, redemption and love. Its a religious album and l am one 100% cool with that. Ever song is perfect and fits. I do prefer the demo versions over the album version but thats personal tastes. Then Weather Systems. Wow talk about a masterpiece! As albums go its a 10 out of 10! Its not as personal as Were Here or A Fine Day but the album is a masterpiece. I was really disappointed in Satellites, really disappointed. A few okay songs Lost Song 3 is really really good! The Optimist was good. Can't Let Go is a perfect 10 and worth the price of admission and has some personal meaning. Ita pretty clear l prefer post Judgement. From time to time ill listen to the older stuff and l enjoy.

Woo, another ranking video from Questy. I'd like to see a Pain of Salvation ranking in the future considering they're one of my favorite prog metal bands. When it comes to Anathema; even though they never had the success that Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride had, they deserve it because they're consistent at many genres. Whether it's death/doom, gothic metal, or prog metal; they are good at all those genres. Here would be my ranking: 11. A Fine Day to Exit 10. A Natural Disaster 9. Alternative 4 8. We're Here Because We're Here 7. Serenades 6. Weather Systems 5. Judgement 4. The Optimist 3. Distant Satellites 2. Eternity 1. The Silent Enigma

I remember Questy leaving with a bad first impression about PoS after hearing Panther (which was a disappointment IMO). Still, i'd love to see a ranking for them. Only Sea Of Tranquility has done them justice.

Agree, it's their best album. But it's rather a genuine gothic metal mastetpiece, not much doom and growls there.

I love Anathema as the Peaceville 3 were a huge part of my "musical upbringing". Most of their albums are gems and I like all their phases. Sleepless 93, A Simple Mistake, A Natural Disaster, Untouchables, Shroud of Frost, One Last Goodbye are all incredible songs. 1. Serenades 10/10 2. A Natural Disaster 10/10 3. Judgement 10/10 4. The Silent Enigma 9/10 5. Weather Systems 8,5/10 6. We're Here Because We're Here 8,5/10 7. Eternity 8/10 8. Alternative 4 8/10 9. Distant Satellites 8/10 10. A Fime Day To Exit 7/10 11. The Optimist 7/10

*"If i had to make a list of essential Death-Doom albums..."* Are you foreshadowing a video about that subject? Because we love Death-Doom in case you didn't know. 11) The Optimist 10) A Fine Day To Exit 9) Serenades 8) Distant Satellites 7) A Natural Disaster 6) Eternity 5) Judgement. 4) Alternative 4 3) We're Here Because We're Here 2) The Silent Enigma 1) Weather Systems * Do you see any correlation between Katatonia and Anathema? Both were signed with Peaceville, both started as Doom outfits and later shifted to Gothic Metal, then to Alternative Rock and finally Progressive Rock. Plus, people like to include Katatonia in the Peaceville Trio. If you still want to continue the Battle Of The Bands series then you could make a video facing both bands, similar styles and same number of albums as far as i'm aware. Great video and thanks for taking my suggestion!

I discovered this band less than a year ago when ForgeMaster's compared them to Katatonia in a battle of the bands style video. Since then I've picked up some great albums including Weather Systems, We're here because we're here, and Falling Deeper which are some of my favorite non-metal albums. This is the second time I've ever heard anyone speak of them.

THE SILENT ENIGMA by far. It is also the best gothic metal album of all time, probably. Not sure why a lot of people still mislabel it as doom/death, as Anathema already dropped both doom and death metal elements at that point. It is a genuine gothic metal record.

@paravan2000
@paravan2000 4 месяца назад
A Fine Day To Exit was such a massive disappointment at the time. After the brilliant 90s discography, they came up sounding like a poor man's Radiohead. Just not good, was kind of a failed sell-out attempt. And it aged badly. Hopefully, they got in right direction with the next album.

Hmm Cant really agree with weather systems.. the first two songs are amazing.. and one more.. but the rest of them are really uninspired compared to were here because we are here for instance.. feels like they are just going through the same motions on most of the weather systems album.. but the first two songs are absolutely amazing agree..

Should be the biggest band in the world, yet they're on hiatus because of being broke. The bottom of your list makes no sense, especially if Weather Systems is your favorite. Everything from Alternative 4 to The Optimist, which won prog album of the yr, are 10/10..
