Totally agree with Gutter Ballet. Totally underrated album. "When the Crowds", "Summers Rain", "Hounds", "Mentally Yours"... I could name every song on the album. Also don't like Streets too much. But you are completely wrong with Dead WInter Dead. 🙂 This is just a brillant work of art. Jon singing the aggressive roles, lie the weapon dealer and Zack singing the other roles. I've been to Dubrovnik on their national holiday, when they projected pictures of the war and the destroyed city on the church wall. I listened to DWD during that night and appreciated the album even more afterwards. A top 3 album for me.
1. Vulgar Display Of Power 2. Far Beyond Driven 3. Great Southern Trendkill 4. Cowboys From Hell 5. Reinventing The Steel 6. Power Metal 7. Metal Magic 8. Projects In The Jungle 9. I Am The Night
This is a wish list,(unrealistic in some places) people will moan about no trooper or wasted years, but we had years of those tracks being played live, I would appreciate something different. Doctor Doctor Intro music. Bach : Toccata in D Minor 1: Phantom of the Opera 2: Prowler 3: Another Life 4: 22 Acacia Avenue 5: Remember Tomorrow 6: Sun and Steel 7: Back in the Village 8: Sea of Madness 9: Infinite Dreams 10: Rime of the Ancient Mariner 11: Holy Smoke 12: Wasting Love 13: Iron Maiden Encore 14: Run to the Hills 15: Number of the Beast 16: From Here to Eternity Encore 2: 17: Running Free
Honestly can't really form a definitive ranking (Though I'd say Boats of the Glen Carrig is #1, both for the proto-Lovecraftian themes, and because The Isle managed to make a fan out of a friend who isn't even a metalhead). The Coral Tombs is also absolutely fantastic, especially The Sea As a Desert doing a similar thing to Antarctica the Polymorphess. While The Call of the Wretched Sea is absolutely still a 10/10, I do kinda rank it a bit lower than the others since as a story-based concept album it doesn't work quite as well, having a bit less variety than the others and less decipherable vocals (Purely from a concept album perspective, as a funeral doom album it is flawless) I am curious what stories Ahab may draw from for future albums. Rime of the Ancient Mariner seems perfect (drifting alone and unable to die on a boat of corpses is perfect funeral doom material), though I dunno if they'd defer from that out of reverence for the Maiden song.
Agree about embrace, but I have trouble with the vocals on the self titled, however on your recommendation I’ll try it again. Every other Asphyx album is a 9 or a 10/10 for me. Some of the best metal of all time.
One of my friends (whose favorite metal genre is pm) asked me for an album to listen to while on a 2 1/2 hour drive crammed into an SUV with 6 other people. I gave him The Maniacal Vale. Still kinda surprised he liked it as much as he did.

S - Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Masters of Reality, Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Heaven and Hell A - Mob Rules, Dehumanizer, 13, The Devil You Know B - TYR, Headless Cross, Technical Ecstasy C - Cross Purposes, Eternal Idol, Never Say Die! D - Born Again, Seventh Star, Forbidden
Master of Reality is the GOAT. My go to album. People talking about never say die and tech ecstacy bla bla trying to sound cool and forget about dehumanizer, an absolute banger🔥
The Eddie rips up Europe tour started with Ides of March going into Wrathchild. I wonder if they will play the songs in sequence with albums or mix up the years. Would love to hear Infinite Dreams.
I grew up a Sabbath fan and I really enjoyed your Ranking, for me Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage and Heaven and Hell are my S tier, Black Sabbath, Mob Rules and Vol 4 are my A Tier’s
13 is definitely an A tier album , low A and I don't think it should be that low. The rest of the list is fine ig. But just like u said "sign of the southern cross" for mob rules, I'd say " god is dead" for 13 . It's not a C tier album
Wow. The first Sabbath ranking that's ever made sense. Good job! Only thing is I like Seventh Star just a smidge more than Eternal Idol, great one Questy! Cheers! Oh yeah do a Coroner ranking next, thanks.
You need to stop listening to Black Sabbath and get good with god. This is nothing but satanic music. If you continue to listen to the message that your friend ozzy sends, you will perish in the gates of hell. Repent. Eithet accept Jesus Christ or keep listening to Black Sabbath. You are a devil worshiper!
Here is my tier list: S: Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Master of Reality, Paranoid, Born Again, Sabotage A+: Volume Four, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath A: Dehumanizer, Black Sabbath B: Technical Ecstacy, Cross Purposes, The Devil You Know C: Headless Cross, Forbidden (the remix brings this from tier D to tier C), Tyr, 13, Never Say Die D: Eternal Idol, Seventh Star
S: Mob Rules, Paranoid, Sabotage, Heaven and Hell. A+: The Devil You Know, Dehumanizer, Black Sabbath A: Headless Cross, Tyr, Technical Ecstasy Cross Purposes, B: Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Master of Reality C: Never Say Die, Seventh Star, 13, Eternal Idol, D: Forbidden Gonna relisten to the ozzy albums again but I never remember anything from Vol. 4 and Master at ALL. Maybe I'm off my rocker
In order. THIS. Run to the hills 2 mins to midnight Wrathchild Sun and steel. Rime of the ancient mariner Killers Number of the beast Infinite dreams Holy smoke loneliness of the long distance runner The trooper Fear of the dark Hallowed be thy name Encore. Phantom of the opera Iron maiden Running free
1- Master of Reality 2- Paranoid 3- Sabotage 4- Dehumanizer 5- Black Sabbath 6- Vol 4 7- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 8- Heaven and Hell 9- The Devil You Know (*That´s the name of the last album you ranked, they just changed the name of the band because they played live with Ozzy and didn't want to confuse the fans, but it is a "Black Sabbath" album nonetheless) 10- 13 (better than all the Tony Martin era combined :D) I don't like the rest of the albums.
Paranoid , Vol . 4 , Sabotage , Sabbath Bloody Sabbath , Black Sabbath , Master Of Reality , Heaven and Hell , Mob Rules , after that , I did not care enough to really rank ..,
I think Forbidden and the 2024 remix edition of Forbidden should be two different rankings. Honestly, if you listened to the original mix of Forbidden, it's a D-tier album. But then you listen to 2024 Forbidden, that I think bumps that album up to C-tier.
The Stephen Wilson remixes change my opinion on some albums, plus the Black Box versions of the Ozzy era albums sound so much much nicer, Geezers bass is better mixed in particular.
Do you think you could rank Arkona albums? It's my favorite band and the few times you've talked about them, it was positive. (the Russian Arkona, not Polish)
From Iron Maiden to Fear of the Dark are 9 albums ;-) My prediction is 1. Murders in the rue morgue (also a classic opener) 2. The trooper 3. Still Life (a fans favorite) or Die With Your Boots On (a bands favorite) 4. Afraid to shoot strangers (they will play more then one song from fear of the dark and this song has the greatest change I guess) 5. Killers (Eddie with the axe in the promo) 6. Rime of the ancient mariner (Bruce wants that song back in the set, but because it takes more then 13 minutes , they don't need to play other songs from powerslave to leave room for other albums, we had the 2 singles on Legacy of the beast tour and the title track during BoS tour) 7. Wasted years ( one song from SiT because they played many of them during the future past tour and the lyrics fit a 50th anniversity well) 8. Phantom of the opera (we hear it in the promo) 9. The number of the beast 10. Infinite dreams (many fans request this song and it was planned for the Maiden England tour but never played) 11. Fear of the dark. 12. Hallowed be thy name 13. Iron Maiden ---------------------------------------- 14. Only the good die young ( Steve Harris said he wants to play this song live once, so now it is the time. A great surprise as encore opener) 15. Bring your daughter to the slaughter (they will play at least one song from No Prayer for the dying, and this song was a big hit and fun live) 16. Run to the Hills (the final words will be ... run for your lives). They are rumors that Paul Di Anno will sing with the band, for maybe one 2nd encore, running free, or, sanctuary . Who knows ...
I wouldn't say Forbidden is one of my favorite Sabbath albums, but I did hear the newer mix of it that came out recently and I have to say it made the album better. Great list overall!
