Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching the first of these little arrangement progress vids, it really means so much!!! ❤️❤️ Here's the next section of the song, the vocal version of the main theme from Yakuza 4, mainly how I usually go about adapting a full band to solo piano. Third episode will be up in a few days and that'll be the verse and the bridge.
Previous episode (Intro): • Anatomy of a Piano Arr...
Will be adding each of these little vids to this playlist: • Anatomy of a Piano Arr...

Glad to see this mini-series continue! It's so fun and interesting to learn something new! It's also great to hear your voice - it's very nice, deep, and rich. I almost want to raspy too, but im not sure if that is the right word.

Part 2! Your arranges always have so much depth and are still the most faithful to the original songs that I've seen. For these progress vids, do you edit out the practice in between each part or are you just able to play like this by ear??

@@purpleschala Thanks for the encouragement. In fact, I've started 2-3 arrangements already, gotten them to ~80% complete...and then moved on to other projects. 😅I get strongly tempted to practice other stuff in that final stage, haha. Part of it might be that I play it and think, "ehhhh I'm not sure I really love this, and I don't know how to make it better". Maybe it's the "perfect being the enemy of the good" issue!
@OokiiPeter

@@MarcPlaysPiano80% is far more progress than I tend to make. Even if the arrangements don't end up quite "perfect" in your eyes, it would be wonderful to hear them! From there, you could even ask others for insight and ideas, if you wanted!

It is so interesting to see how you take a song and arrange it for piano, making it sound so interesting and complex, building up from a simple base, especially as a pianist myself, and especially because you became one of my biggest inspirations for making me want to get better at piano during lockdowns when making progress and improving wasn't easy. Quick question, do you figure out everything for your simple base by ear?
@purpleschala
@purpleschala 3 месяца назад
ahhh omg thank you so much Yuzuki, you're too kind!!! ❤❤❤❤😭😭good on you for keeping with piano and actively trying to improve!! It's really hard to stick with it as an adult so that's very admirable!! as for your question, for something like this where the chords and melody are pretty straightforward, I did it by ear, though the rhythm was a bit tricky since it was so syncopated hahaha. Though for more complicated songs, I'll use a program like AnthemScore, which will analyze an mp3 or wav and spit out a MIDI or xml that you can open in notation software and sift through through the jank to confirm/find trickier chords and rhythmic placements, though it's far from perfect haha it can be a huge time saver depending on the song. I transcribed a jazz collab recently and even with AnthemScore still took me ages to figure out lol OTL

@purpleschala I'm actually not an adult ;-; Lockdowns just made it hard to improve even with my teacher Ah, okay, thanks for your answer!

what is a bossa clave? pmsl
@purpleschala
@purpleschala 4 месяца назад
it's the basic 2-bar bossa nova rhythm pattern: www.bossanova-gitarre.de/en/the-clave/. The 3-2 clave starts with a quarter on beat one, 8th on the and of 2, quarter on 4, etc. You'll definitely know it when you hear it, many Jobim standards like Chega de Saudade employ it.
@purpleschala
@purpleschala 4 месяца назад
oh wow I guess YT isn't allowing exterior links lol, well in case you can 't see it it's basically this variant of the bossa nova rhythm pattern: | 1, &2, 4 | 2, 3 |

@@purpleschala I've only ever worked on ear and feeling, i'm self taught but i cant understand theory unless its explained to me by someone else and you have my respect and rapport already. Do you have a Patreon or something i can refer to? The way you broke down transcribing the Y6 tune, a bit of Kiryuuuuu-chan, to piano was enlightening to say the least :) i could do with the help on theory, feeling only goes so far lol
