@@kawaiipuff5935 The only other band I've found that comes close to having that special 'something' that Anberlin has, is this indie band from Australia called My Ending Reign, and they only have one EP with four songs out. Anberlin has a very specific sound that grabbed me from the start at summer camp during the summer of '07 and never let go. I still have yet to figure out how to describe it with words. When I found My Ending Reign, I was like, 'Omg, this is sort of it!' They're seriously the only band I've ever heard come close to capturing that Anberlin sound. It's a combination of Stephen's gorgeous voice and their overall instrumentation. My Ending Reign captures some of that instrumentation. Go listen to their song, "When Heartache Collides." I can totally imagine Stephen singing it.
I think it's about choosing to keep going. Not settling for what is expected. Choosing your own path, even if you have to go at it alone. That is what I get from the video.
"They are in love but their world is falling apart, he tries to save her, but they split paths and the tall rock structure that splits apart when they do represents what they had built together. As they find their own way, new age, shiny and sterile structures appear seemingly threatening their environment mirror this to their relationship. He keeps running, and she finally stops to rest, but why? As the shiny altars and buildings rapidly emerge, she walks into an army of stone men. Only one of them is recognizable, her most recent lover. She touches him to reminisce of their fallen love and then flys away in the same appearance of the new shiny structures. ---The world they were in was her world the whole time, and even though he was in it, he was slowly being pushed out just like all the other lovers that had gone before him. This is how I watched this video. "How can I talk you down from that ledge unless you let me in?" Their world crumbled because her world was crumbling. She couldn't let him in.
He seems to turn to stone as she is washing her face, effectively washing herself of him. But i think it doesnt all fall on her just giving up on the relationship because at the end, once she is free of him, she advances from the rocky world they put together into a modern age. Also she gains wings as though she is now able to fly having left the rock that was holding her down. In all honesty i see it as more of a battle between loving oneself and loving the one your with. Sometimes, even though you love the one your with, you have to move on to truly find yourself and be the person you want to be. Its unfortunate that sometimes it hurts that person and as they try to get in to help there is nothing they can do...its already over in your world.
Hmm. Interesting. I see what your saying dylan English, but then i think about the Lyrics, "Let me in, How can I talk you down from that ledge unless you let me in". Which to me means that someone in the relationship is self destructing but is too proud for help.
There is no justice in the music industry. There is also no accounting for taste, but it seems to me that Anberlin should be selling gangbusters. They are stellar. And to think that, after this tour, they are done. Man...
It's really too bad that the band is calling it quits after their next album and tour. They got me through some tough time, and I can say that they are my favorite music group. Wish them all the best of luck, and hope their last CD is as amazing as the rest.
I sat with a cup of tea and decided to watch this.. Sat in awe and didn't take a sip as I watched some pretty awesome video just happen in front of me. Cool song guys, thanks.
"Why can't you believe in what you know?"...Anberlin, how can you read my mind and exactly describe my life??? And Stephen Christian's voice is absolutely mesmerizing. What an amazing band.
Anberlin is my favorite band, I love them I love them I love them I love them I love them I love them, how many more? Repeat seven million times. I LOVE ANBERLIN! Sorry for the capitols, even that's an underestimation of my appreciation for these guys.
Anberlin holds a very special place in my heart! Thank you for the motivation to get thru it, thank you for not dropping your arms, thank you for holding your ground, and thank you for all the great Spirit inspired music... Vios con dios
It's about someone who is on the edge and isn't sure what to do, and about trying to get them to let someone in to help them get through whatever has pushed them to the edge.
L I R Y C You came out of nowhere But who could you hold wild horse unstable Do you still do as you're told. Think you're wild and you're free now Think you can cover me, well save yourself Pretend like you don't do what you're told. Come around, let me in How can I talk you down from that ledge Unless you let me in? You heard when I called you But you still lost your way Are you able To do just what youu know? Taught me to trust now Yet you have no faith In yourself Why can't you believe in what you know? Come around (darling) Let me in How can I talk you down from that ledge Unless you let me in? How can I talk you down unless you come around, Come around, come around? Come around, darling Let me in How can I talk you down from that ledge Unless you let me in? Come around Let me in I'll talk you down from that ledge If you let me in, lovely...
Dang it sucks that they're splitting up but I understand since they have been together for like 10 years there will never be another band like Anberlin. The first song I heard by them was Ready Fuels and the chorus was just amazing then I discovered Cities, new surrender, never take friendship personal, and so on. Anberlin will always have a special place in my heart. Awesome AMA on Reddit too :)
+RagingGinger R.G reading down, people said they asked Anberlin and they stated the video didn't have a meaning but from what I guess! the characters are Adam and Eve if you look at the production notes, so its a video about Adam bieng dissatisfied and biting the "apple" and Eve chasing after him to put it simply I think.
+DeadS1337 that makes more sense .....when I first saw this the term pillar of salt came to mind at the end ...conforming to your temptations instead of avoiding the immorality ....it consumes the soul separating you from what you where meant for. that was just my impression of it
+RagingGinger R.G Way I look at it, the female is a different species than what is found on the planet the male comes from and when she finds a suitor, they come to this place (her planet) and part ways to truly test the male. Something happens with her technology (which is all the geometric objects) in this place and when it finds a foreign entity (the male who is not of her species), it teleports and turns them to stone (which is why there are multiple subjects that are all in a line). Now that she knows he failed like the others, she kisses him and parts ways to hopeful move on and find the next subject.
if the band stated that it doesn't have a meaning why can't people just accept that? sometimes you just have a vision of images that would go well with a song, even if they don't mean anything. they don't have to.
This is my take on the story: The lyrics are refer to a woman not opening up enough to let him in to save her, "how can I talk you down from the ledge if you won't let me in?" The woman could be apprehensive in trusting a lover, probably due to some hurt in her past. I presume that the clay men are past relationships, but because she's hurt inside, no one can go deeper in the relationship. The futuristic elements of the story are simply an element of aesthetic choice. Overall, very well told.
Why are all pretty girls crazy and unstable? "In my experience, the prettier a girl is, the more nuts she is, which makes you insane." - Ryan Gosling in Blue Valentine
