I did but since I didn't have a car with a faulty alternator I don't know if that function works. Even today none of the vehicles in my home have faulty alternators so I haven't tested that function. Bad batteries are a lot more common, if not inevitable if you keep a car for more than 3 years, specially in hot climates. And sure enough, this device does detect faulty batteries. If you want more functions such a crank test, charging test, alternator test, and so forth, I would recommend the Innova 5610. I have not done a review on this device yet because I want to spend at least a year using it, but so far it's amazing. It has a lot of "bidirectional" active tests that your average OBDII scanner doesn't have. You can look at other reviewers on RU-vid about it
