Learn how to use the EZ Marine Anchor retrieval system. This anchor system uses a pulley and buoy system. Anglers can use this system to anchor in rivers for sturgeon or salmon or use it in the ocean for halibut, lingcod or other saltwater species. Yes, you would have to thread the line through the mechanism. I have one and have used it on crab and shrimp pots as well as anchors. The benefit is the one way feature. If you stop part way up the locking bolt stops the pot or anchor from falling back to the bottom. If you want a true "pot puller" check out the Ace Line Brutus pot puller. It will fit on a Scotty electric downrigger mount.

I had one of those and they work great but then I got a windlass installed and now it is completely hands free and your anchor is dropped and retrieved in seconds. This is a very popular way to anchor up here on the Fraser River. In fact there are fabricators out there that have asked boat manufacturers such as North River, Thunder Jet, etc, etc that they have asked to make the bows of their boats more windlass friendly.

Some people hold the device as shown in the video. However, because it can be added later you can deploy your anchor, secure it to the cleat and then attach the EZ Marine Anchor Puller then or just before pulling the anchor.

@WilmSkate No, no they are not. In rivers with swift currents and sand/mud bottoms, using an anchor puller like this will really save your back. Getting the anchor off the bottom after it has sit for an hour with current filling in sand and mud over it can be backbreaking. I will gladly let the boat bring it up for me, even in "only" 15 feet of water. You have apparently never fished these waters or you would know better. This is called a Columbia River style anchoring system for a reason.

prob be cheaper to install a couple of bow chocks than replace his antenna mount when the rope snags it!

Check out Orval's EZ-Pull. I works the same way but the is not threaded through the mechanism. No need to hold the puller while the line feeds out.

Looks like a good way to get the line in the prop. Or have someone run over it when it's 100ft back there. Does this work with nylon 3 strand? Looks he's using poly propylene floatable line.

I didn’t see it pop up until the boat speed was slowed. How do you really know that the anchor has lifted to the surface?
@thestigmach1984
@thestigmach1984 9 лет назад
why don't you just use a normal anchor and just pull it in when your ready to move

Harbor freight sells a cheap-o anchor winch. Flip a switch and anchor comes up. I actually have one of these units talked about in this video and the entire concept is really only valid to get the anchor off the bottom safely. You still need to hand over hand bring in the anchor line. Summer, no biggie. Winter when it is bite ass cold.... NO I do not want to handle the anchor line. If your stupid and buy and anchor winch and don't take the time to safely pop your anchor free from the bottom with plenty of slack then eventually your going to get your anchor stuck and winch the nose of your boat straight down under water. Not too cool specially if you are in a river where the current will help to suck your boat under. Probably the best of both worlds for safety would be one of these to safely pop your anchor off the bottom then a power winch to wind it in. Don't fish much any more since my son moved to the other side of the country, but if I ever start fishing again a power winch is going on my boat.

What a waste of time this unit is, the only thing to use is a ring attached to a buoy, with this unit by reading the comments you have to let the rope thru it and it doesn't run the chain or anchor thru it, if you use a ring the chain and anchor runs thru the ring and supports the weight of the anchor and chain, you simply pull the rope then chain and then just lift the anchor and buoy over the side and your finished.

I can see a benefit to this over the simple buoy + ring configuration when you don't have chain on the line (like they did). This would be good for a Box Anchor or any other anchor that doesn't have chain as part of the normal rode.

This idea is about as good as eating a peanut and butter sandwich with the peanut butter spread on the outside. sry but be a man and pull it up without all this drive, circle, look, untangle rope from friends neck etc...

jim davis Well, we go deep sea fishing - 1600+ feet of water, lets see you pull that giant anchor up. No time for that BS. Your point is invalid and bad. Judging by your boat size, you'll never need to do that. For 15 feet of water? Yea, no, too much effort.

+Thomas Mack Well, sounds like you've been on a least 2 chartered fishing trips and still didn't learn a fuckin' thing. Do you really think anyone would drop an anchor in 1600ft of water, to hang correctly, that's at least 5000ft of chain + the pick? Not only is YOUR point invalid, you're full of BS!
