I can’t figure out the point of this video.

Anchor bridal/snubber will help keep your boat from moving around too much when on anchor. Lookup bridal for rope-rode or all-chain-rode…good luck…Good Video! I have a Bayliner 32” I upgraded to all chain rode for the same reason…easier to add an anchor bridal setup.

Thanks. Great advice. I have been assuming that "all chain" won't fit into the R-29 anchor locker. But, I am going to check into that. Hopefully I am wrong. We did buy an anchor bridle, but did not use it. I thought that if we drag the anchor or have to do some sort of maneuvering at night, dealing with the bridle on rope would be too complicated. Thanks again.

Thanks a bunch. That was the next scene. A sea lion feeding.

I’ve recently found your videos. Are you in the same area as Channel Surfing? It would be great to see some side by side comparisons of your boat to their RT27OB. Love your video quality. It would be great to add some audio commentary and a full tour of your boat especially any modifications or additions you have done.

Thanks a bunch Jason. We try to keep ourselves mostly off the Internet and thus ourselves and our voices out of the videos as much as possible. I simply enjoy sharing what we learn as we become better boaters and storytellers. But yes, we are jsut a couple of docks away from Channel Surfing. I am working on an R-29 Overview or “Top-10” video that will likely be the next video published. I am struggling to make it a “good video”. :-) It will focus on positive aspects that are not typically seen in reviews or sales videos. I am guessing that there will be a video about modifications further down the road. In the meantime, I recently published an unofficial guide to the R-29 on outwestrider.com that contains all/most of our many modifications.

@@mvemerson I totally respect wanting to keep yourselves off the internet. The videos are still great. I will read your article for sure. I’m from Alberta Canada so when the time comes the PNW will be our cruising grounds and it’s great to see videos of smaller boats cruising the area. As many people have said. Owning a boat is all about compromise so please share things that you don’t like as well or maybe would change If it was possible. And things that you love that you could never do without in a boat

Great ideas. Probably in future videos.

Jason, in case you’ve not seen it, Channel Surfing posted a comparison video of a 29 and 27ob about 10 days ago.

I, too, enjoy your video quality and respect that you don't want to talk or show yourself on YT. However, keep in mind that if we, the viewer, have to read text, we need more time between text changes. Additionally, the size of the text does matter when zipping through the video. Just some thoughts moving forward. Keep up the great work, and keep the videos coming.

Not just your lighter displacement. Lots of windage above the waterline. Recommend an anchor 'snubber' (not bridle) made with nylon line, attached to chain rode with a rolling hitch...for just the reason you mention below. If you need to veer more rode, just undo the snubber and let it feed out with more rode, then add a new snubber. Cheap, effective, flexible.

Thanks for your comment and advice. Truly appreciated. I will look into this deeper (how to best execute) soonest, ...before our trip to Desolation Sound.

MV Emerson, we saw you anchored in Liberty Bay. We’re in a RT31 out of Port Orchard (Edgedancer), and on a whim decided to head for Poulsbo for the night on the 16th. Admired your willingness to anchor out in that weather as we headed into the marina. Enjoyed your videos!

What size Mantus M2 did you decide to go with for your R-29? Is it the minimum, or did you step up 1 or 2 sizes? How well does it sit on the bow? Does it bump into the hull? Finally are you pleased with its performance? Looking at a R-29 myself. I will most likely move to the M2 anchor. I would enjoy a video Specifically focused on the anchor. What type of rode are you using, all chain? Chain and rope? How much rode total? Thanks for the videos!

Hi Nate. I saw the 17 lbs M2 reviewed by @flygoodwin on his SV Panope channel. It did well in the 22 lbs class. Since my boat came with a 22 lbs anchor, I wanted one of at least that size. The next size up is the 25 lbs M2 and that’s what I have. It fits perfectly with a couple of inches between its tip and the hull. While I opted for the Mantus anchor guard, I am not convinced that it is needed on the R29. The shank of the M2 is similar enough to the 22 lbs claw, that it fits really well. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that while the windlass is fairly beefy, it is sized for my ground tackle. Thus, I did not want to go any larger on the anchor. The boat came with 50’ of chain and 200’ of rope. The chain locker is not the largest and I am not convinced that “all chain” or even “more rope” would fit. As it is, I have to shuffle the rode side to side to fit it all when retrieving the anchor. This was our first time anchoring outside of training and based on this single event, we love the anchor. No drama setting, retrieving and no dragging. But, I would put more stock into Steve’s (SV Panope’s ) test. Perhaps I can figure out how to send you a picture of the anchor on the boat, the next time I visit it. I suggest to also consider the sea bottom you will most often anchor in. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Should be a fun boating season ahead with some beautiful cruising planned.

@MV Emerson Thanks for the response. I, too, am an SV Panope subscriber, and that is where I've decided that I would go with the 25lb Mantus M2. Steve's videos are great! My boating waters would be the Great Lakes with plans to do the Great Loop. I believe that I am on the right track with the Mantus M2. Thanks again for the information.

Another item I noticed in this video is what I believe is the dingy winch hanging in the cockpit. Maybe a futre video showing its function? That is something that I have not seen in my research of the R-29. You have a beautiful boat! Thanks for sharing your training methods.

Great charts and feature set. Since this video we have come to appreciate the weather overlay quite a bit.
