I find the simple but effective animations (with the icons formed by the kings' names/depictions roaming over the maps) to be a clever solution. It helps the listener to make the connections between people and places. I also think it is important to always show the hieroglyphic names of kings with a translation of the meaning (this matter will be complicated in future dynasties, when kings start to have multiple and more complex names). Other nice practices are the references to the artifacts shown, even including the repositories and credits of the authors of the images.Thumbs up!
@HistorywithCy
@HistorywithCy 3 года назад
Hi, thanks for stopping by and the constructive feedback, really appreciate it! Yeah, even early Dynastic kings had several names, though the Horus name is the most common. For me I also like simple animations (was inspired by History Civilis) though I'd like to make better maps in the future, for example, with physical features such as mountain ranges. I've tried this but it looked a bit sloppy so I decided not to use them. It's a process and hopefully you all see the improvements from past videos. Anyway, thanks again for stopping by and glad you like this series... stay tuned for the rest and stay safe!
@adrianokury
@adrianokury 3 года назад
@@HistorywithCy I meant 5 names in MK for example instead of only 2 in the Early Dynastic. Maps with terrain are surely more appealing, but the way it is now is good enough. Anyway, this series looks promising, and the care/effort you put in the videos shows.

@@HistorywithCy do you mind if I ask what software you use to do the animations? I'm a teacher and I sometimes made very simple videos with still pictures, but I don't know how to animate like you do. I've looked at some open source animation packages but they seem to be for professionals and are way over my head!
@HistorywithCy
@HistorywithCy 3 года назад
@@DarrenGedye Sure! I use Adobe Photoshop for making the maps and little icons and then animate it all in Premiere. As a teacher you might get a big discount if not a year for free, which is what happened to me. I got a free one year trial through the university I was doing my credential program at and that gave me enough time to see if it was something I'd actually use. I think there are ways that educators can get special discounts, or maybe your school/district might already have a subscription if they offer students art or graphic design classes. That's how I'd start. Let me know if there's any way that I can help! Good luck!

It's fairly obvious. Aha and his dynasty were from upper egypt and it would be far less likely that the people of that region would allow their graves to be descrated. While they saw a political purpose of a ceremonial burial in lower egypt in order to maintain a dynastic tradition over the people of that region. in other words from the lower to the upper, "in your face man"

Mesopotamia is as old as Egypt and certainly has its achievements, however their art and architecture are gruesome. No magnificent ruins in Iraq or Syria of former Sumer, Akkad, Babylon or Assyria. Just a jumble of mud brick walls here and there. Their religion was also dark with a dismal afterlife. How depressing! Always amazed me how two great river valley civilizations situated in deserts and so geographically close to one another in the Middle East can be so dissimilar. No cousin-like relationship between the two like Greece and Rome which were closeby to one another in the Mediterranean. Mesopotamian civilization was inferior and shabby, while Egypt's was truly remarkable and stunning!

I watched a video about the first dynasty before and it was said in that video that Den discriminated against a certain group of Egyptians who either rebelled or did an act of treason, those were the upper Egyptians who unlike the lower Egyptians were 'pure' Africans, and the lower Egyptians were as mix of those Africans and Asiatic people who migrated from the Levant who looked reddish brown rather dark brown. According to region him and his people originated from, along with his depictions and busts, he was likely a dark skinned African and the people in the north of Egypt were more of a Mediterranean/asiatic people who had settled int delta region, rather than ‘ancient settled’ African.
