It's Tiara Tuesday, and after yesterday's repost of Princess Blanche's wonderful pastel gothic crown, I wanted to talk about this absolutely regal cutie- the Crown, or Coronet of Margaret of York. They just don't make them like this anymore!
Made of silver gilt (that's gold plated silver), sapphires, everyone's favorite ruby imposter red spinel, a wealth of pearls, and colorful enamel, it is delightfully small, and has a detail you rarely see on crowns, or any jewelry, for that matter- Margaret's name, emblazoned across the bottom.
Margaret's devotion to the church is responsible for this crown's continued existence, as it has escaped the fate of melting down that befell almost all British medieval crowns.
