As a young soldier during the mid 90s I had a layover in Ireland on a military flight. I immediately felt a connection to the land, during that time-frame I did not know why. Recently through DNA family testing I discovered Ireland is a part of my sister, brother and father DNA, I learned we are one of the few thousand descendents of an Irish highland King that was a great leader but was betrayed by his brother. If he had not lived in thrived than I would have not have known the gift of life.
Very much appreciated and enjoyed, traced my descendents to Connor Mac Nessa, Red Branch knights Tuatha De Danann Clanna Dedad Darini Fiatach dynasty 1st high kings O hEochaidh, Hoy, Haughey, Hoey, seems as you say, we spent a lot of time in civil wars, thank you, all the very best wishes. I find it amazing also have Norse culture, Hoy Island Orkney Island.

Meath only became a chieftom in after Christianity arrived in Western Europe. Before this, the area was split between the Ulaidh, the Luagini, and early Connaught. It's become very clear in the last 100 years that no such thing as a high king existed in Ireland, as the chief who ruled Tara did not control the Ulaidh, nor Munster.
@@gnenian The Scots also known as the Dal Riada has a king of their territory, but is never referred to as Ard-Ri (High king) of Dal Riada. The Dal Riada were subject to the Ualidh overking, yet in the 5 or 6th century swapped alliances to the Northern Ui-Neill dynasty centered in Tyrone/Donegal. Then Congal Claen king of Ulaidh in the 7th century, and king of Tara (Once again he did not refer to himself as Ard Ri) convinced the Dal Riada to join forces with the Ulaidh and Cruithne which led to the largest ever battle in the North of ancient Ireland, The Battle of Moira in 637
@Andrew Bore Thank you. These distinctions drive me stupid. All I remembered was Brian Boruma being titled after a pre Christian legal system or tribute rather and sometimes being titled emperor or king of Scots (in Latin). So a High King of Ireland might not be the same as a High King IN Ireland. Such distinctions being missed would drive anybody stupid.
