One of the bits I am curious about is why The Master's heavily loyal servant (the german dude) WANTS to be the next Vessel of the Master. It has been shown a couple times where he thought he would become the next vessel and upon discovering he wouldn't, he became severely distraught.
@CoganLollins I wondered if you had seen the movie Lifeforce, a movie about Space Vampires? Might be worth a look as it's an excellent movie, plus has some very original ideas. It's one of the best 80s horror bmovies out there.
The thing I really like about the strain is how it portrays vampires as really disgusting monsters not a bunch of guys in their 20s wearing leather jackets
My favorite was in “The Dresden Files” where the black court vampires are basically dehydrated walking corpses bones cracking when they move cause the fluids in their joints was long gone skin blackened by death and pulled back tight on the face cause it’s dried and begin to peel back
I loved this post! I too read the series of books and watched the Tv series. I'm waiting for Netflix to get it. The reason the demons were in the Occio Lumen was because the enemy is to be acknowledged and studied so it can be recognized should it present itself. A good old case of "Know thy enemy" in my opinion. Thanks for the food for thought. I enjoy these posts, take care.
So the books explain what happened to the Old World Ancients? Because in the show they just guess the Master might have killed them already. I was also curious why the Master ended up with the Old World Ancients if he originally came to being in Canada. They made it a big deal that he was returning to NA.
I love how the designs of these vampires are heavily based on the appearance of Nosferatu/Count Orlock, the first Dracula in cinema. Also, this quote by Orlock perfectly represents the disturbing nature of the creatures of the Strain: "Death is a horrible thing. But there are things even more horrible than death..."
Hey! Biology student here, fun fact about Loam is that it is a soil classification that is about 40% sand, 40% silt, and 20% clay and contains large amounts of organic material. It is also the ideal soil texture for growing crops. This plays into the idea that The Loam used by the master is most likely the soil where Ozryels throat was and the soil The Master grew from since The Loam would have had large amounts of organic material “Ozryels throat”, and was perfect for growing a crop “The Master”. Just kind of a neat fact I thought would be interesting to share
Yup, I consumed ( pun intended ) the trilogy during the lockdown. The first book completely engulfed me, the second kept the suspense going and the third had it's moments but the storyline was coming to an end and you can pretty much tell what was going to happen, so I didn't enjoy it quite as much but that's just personal preference. And as tense as they were, there were still several laugh-out-loud moments ( me laughing ) between the characters.
@@billbixby557 I was pretty much the same. The whole scientific approach that the first book had drew me in cos I'd never really read something that tackled vampires like that. Then Quinlan's story and finding out the origins of the vampires was what kept me reading. I found the 3rd book the weakest, but at that stage I had read 2 books of this story I wasn't going to just drop it and not read the end.
@@himynameis3664 ditto. I completely agree with your assessment, especially about the 3rd book being the weakest but reading till the end because you've already gone this far.
The reason for the Seal of Haagenti being on the Occido Lumen has to do with the Kabalistic tradition of "True Name" magic associated with King Solomon, who was said to have used magic to take command of Demons and spirits to do his bidding. Demons and Angels are effectively the same kind of entity, but split along ideological lines ( The War of Heaven ). The power of "True Names" goes back to the biblical story of Genesis. In Genisis, humans could speak the Holy Tongue ( something that was taken from them after the fall of the Tower of Babel, resulting in all the different languages humanity ends up speaking ). Speaking the True Name of a spiritual being in the Holy Tongue allowed Solomon to manipulate them according to his will. This is also why in the 10 Commandments it's written not to take the name of God ( also called the Tetragramaton ) in vein, because it invokes him. SOOOO, with the vampires being composed the parts of Ozryel, they are technically Angelic / Demonic in nature and subject to the same Kabalistic / Solomonic magics as demons from the Key of Solomon.
@@bobjohnson1633 In Judaism, there is a name when used only in prayer / praise to God. I will not type it out, out of respect, but it begins with the letter A in the Latin alphabet. This is the name that is never to be uttered by humans unless used as intended. That is the intent of that commandment.
@@bobjohnson1633 This is also why in Abrahamic religions, when spoken of casually, God is refereed to as God ( within the context of the language spoken ) rather than by his proper names.
I like the fact that vampire strain vector is worms. This reminds me of a favourite D&D monster: Child of Kyuss, which is an undead animated by little green worms.
The master technically is seen inhabiting 6 bodies in the show, if you count the Roman era body and the navy seal he briefly inhabited between Bolivar and Palmer.
I absolutely love The Strain TV series... more specifically season 1... everything after season 1 is flapps so quickly. But I can rewatch Season 1 many more times without getting tired of it. The ancients and how they go down - was the biggest disappointment of the entire series.
So pumped to see another strain video , I feel like people are finally seeing how scary the vampires were in this show, i always said it would be a shame to never revisit them. The casting was really good in this show too, there was a diverse cast without one moment it feeling like a box was being checked or for woke points, everyone was cast perfectly even if they were only in the show for 5 minutes, I don't know if they could even do this again,
@@SlowDay1651 I binged the show for the first time last year. I had the exact same feelings immediately about the second Zach actor. Absolutely terrible, and I hated watching every minute he was on screen and hoped his character would just die already. Not because an awful character was portrayed well, like Joffrey from GOT, but because the actor was hot garbage. Almost any other kid would have been better for the role, or even just Steve Buscemi for all I cared. Agree, 10/10 without that actor.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait so the end of the story sort it means that humans were really unimportant, and he was only punished because he drink his brother angels blood ? So we humans were just used as ponds in order to teach the angel of a lesson? Bro we less than cannon fodder!
Bro your channel is so underrated, I appreciate you making this kinda stuff for ppl like us. I didn’t even know I liked these kinda til I watched yours, keep grinding fam you’re doing your thang fasho.
The Strain is one of my favorite book trilogies and I love most of the show. I have a lot of gripes with how they handled some characters, namely Nora, because after Fet, she is my favorite. So I was really upset by that. First season though, gold. Absolute gold. Del Toro really does have a wonderful way of creating lore and backstories that could fit so easily into our world, and I love it. I'm sad the religious/divine aspects of the whole thing was pushed to the side by the end of the tv series, I still love it and I still rewatch it frequently. This was a wonderful deep dive!
Yeah the beginning of the show was so damn good. I'd say the only thing I disliked was the ending and how stupid that one child was (forgot their name). Like, the main character's kid following around the strain controlled mom was so f*cking aggravating and stupid. Really ruined the story for me.
@@dudebruh8534 Oh yeah, Zac took most hated child on TV at the time from Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead, no one liked him. I also didn't like the actor change up.
oh agreed. by the last season, it was more of a totalitarian dictatorship dystopian society rather than a religious/divine punishment aspect on humanity.
Maybe the reason the demon's seal is in the book is because the knowledge, or some of it, in the book was given by a demon as a way to get rid of the angel/vampire on earth so that the demons wouldn't have any competition on earth. Idk just a guess but the vamps and demons probably both territorial or something
Demons ARE angels. This is way "fallen angel" and "demon" mean the same thing and are synonyms. So if vampires in this universe come from an angel who killed human to drink their blood (and tried to do the same to his brother angels) then that would make him a fallen angel, i.e. a demon.
I like the background of having biblical origins from the body of a fallen angel generated first vampires but liked the science approach in the physiology of vampires being result of parasitic worms transmitting a virus to create new organism in book one before the rest of the trilogy exposes the supernatural origins
Guillermo del Toro dose good movies but hit show Troll Hunters turned into crap with each passing season , S1 26 episodes, well paced and world building. S2 13 episodes and felt rushed and cramped. S3 13 episodes again and felt like someone was behind them shouting "wrap this sh-it up NOW"
Maybe a long shot, but I would love for you to cover the Vampires from the book series Necroscope. They were optioned for films not long ago so you might get ahead of the curve, but also I just really enjoy them and wish they got more recognition.
Yeah - plus one for a request for a deep dive into the Wamphyri! They're kinda Lovecraftian vampires, which are also a result of a parasite/sybiote inside the host body. They also provided the inspiration for Clan Tzimice in Vampire The Masquerade, the TT RPG.
Theres another comic with a lot of similarities (at least in the first few volumes I read of it) to the strain. It's called impaler written by William Harms, check it out if you wanna. It's basically Dracula vs. Vamps so maybe to describe it a blend of hellsing and the strain? I was always interested in why both Impaler and the strain share so many similarities
I think about Kelly killing the feeler, it may have partially been because maybe they could see and it wasn't complete, but I also thought that it could have to do with the reverse, "save the cat, ".. They didn't want the audience to sympathize or think too fondly of that character
I praise you for this video. I'd like to donate to you and suggest a video on Mr. Quinlan, my favorite vampire hero since Marvel's Blade and Angel from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
This is one of those tv shows that I’d like to see have a well thought out reboot as a limited series in future. Something like an 8 part series, streamlined and well paced would be perfect
I LOVE CRONOS!!! that was the first guillermo del toro movie i ever saw and i was hooked!!!! the scene where the old man licks the blood of the floor made me and my gf giggle for years
Interesting how Christianity is a running theme in Vampire origins. Vampire the Masquerade has the biblical Cain being turned into the first vampire as punishment for his murdering of Able eventually leading to the Antediluvians the sired the main clans. Strain has the blood thirsting angel Ozryel leading to a similar origin. Lazarus from Deathwatch if he is indeed the biblical Lazarus. I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them right now.
What i wouldn't give to see what Del Toro had in mind for the third Hellboy movie. I've read somewhere that the core ideia was circling around a fallen archangel locked in a cold war era soviet bunker. The way he ties his work with religion and historical events always captivated my curiosity. At this point it's very unlikely that movie will ever be made, but we can always wait to see what other ideas he has planned for future works.
Ikr? The first Hellboy was AMAZING….the Lovecraftian element was awesome. But the second one was kinda silly to me. I would love to see that fallen angel/Cold War hoodoo stuff.. Ron Perlman is way to old, but Dave Harbor did a good job
I much prefer the vampire lore of the novel "Let Me In," wherein the vampire's bite carries an infection which causes brain cells to grow around the heart. This new second brain allows the host to live on even if the host technically dies. This brain keeps the heart beating regardless, which makes breathing unnecessary. The other changes include a membrane, like that of a flying squirrel, which allows the vampire to glide short distances. The infection causes a sort of anemia, which explains the constant need for blood "transfusions." They aren't immortal, but they live very long lives because their metabolism is reduced to near zero. Strength, speed, night time vision and smell all are heightened. Sunlight causes a brutal thermogenic reaction that can end with spontaneous combustion. The infected in this version lead lonely, miserable lives. Most commit suicide by destroying their own hearts.
Brian Lumley's Necroscope series is Bad Ass vampire war multi world psychic spy easy to read complex pulp wonder stuff! Can't recommend it enuff, enjoy!
Buuut...what would they eat 😅?! Concentration camps aren't known for providing particularly great population longevity. Also, it'd be cool to see other types of vamps represented in this universe, or one like it at the very least.
This migjt be a cool series to watch if i could get over the goofy looking vamp costumes..heck the one looks like the creature from the black Lagoon 😂... O and vamps are worms..
Since we're heading towards Halloween, maybe a twist on the traditional vampire? Unfortunately they're only really in books (maybe as background characters in a couple of the mini-series), but Terry Pratchett's Discworld has the Black Ribboners (Not one drop) and also the zombies such as Reg Shoe and his Grey Rights movement...
Have you read or listened to the deathless novels by Chris fox? Its a very interesting spin on the werewolf zombie and Vampire genres combined with lost ancient history. Its worth checking out.
To my knowldge all of 7 ancients and master vampire is included among them are each piaece of angel of death ozryel. Other ancients were born from other parts of ozryel's body but master vampire who is main antagonist was born from ozryel's head.
Hey , u r excellent....why dont u make a video on vampires from "a discovery of witches"....those vampires are really unique , ancient and awesome....those vampires and their society is something that can actually exist without us ever knowing...!
