The lives of the characters in SATC, sadly are no longer relatable, which was the charm of the original series. Girls wanted to BE them…. No one wants to be these women who did not age/evolve well. When the series ended they were all in good places in their lives. Maturing and intelligent these characters are unrecognizable

I'm guessing that Cynthia Nixon is quite comfortable (and proud of) her body, so used that as a way to incorporate all the uneccessary skin (as Miranda) into this episode along with then concocting the Che "body discomfort" storyline... which makes it's odd, then, that just earlier Che had rejected styling requests to instead pontificate about being oneself... I suppose people may still be self-conscious at the same time as having a sense of own identity, but this was a strange and clunky way to address the topic... seemed mostly a way for Cynthia to just get naked. The old Miranda would have known she couldn't handle a submersion tank... she couldn't even handle post-coital cuddling with Steve, or a honeymoon without cable and cell reception. This current character Miranda just isn't Miranda anymore.

It was supposed to be an ode to ageing and evolving. An ode to this chapter of our lives. The show prouds itself on fighting ageism when it is doing the absolute opposite. It perpetuates ageism by having 50 yo characters act like 20 yo and wanting us to believe it is the coolest thing ever. I am 44 and these women are definitely not an inspiration. Yikes!!

You had it right about the Met Ball...it is an excuse to spend a great deal of cash on an outfit and the guest list is always very exclusive...the outfits are not wearable for a night of bowling. Che saying,"Can we move this along,etc" might have something to to do with her discomfort at gaining weight. A s a writer and former stand-up for four decades I can say,"Who on Earth did they hire for the writer's room?" This show used to be funny didn't it? I remember the episode where Miranda's mom dies and the "tasteful" flowers arrive and they are anything but...I had a tee shirt that said," You died...let's disco"...and I got a lot of free shots when I wore it.There are many comics dying for that job...where are they? My wish for this year is that they would make it funny again because right now...we need the funny.Really!

I watched this episode, couldn’t get through episode 2. What sticks in my mind is that Che is good & ready to get a good hard roggering from Miranda in a big strap-on suit but then 2 minutes later she’s saying she doesn’t want her hugging or touching her because she’s body conscious over being fat shamed. I love how in the twilight zone in which this show resides, Che gets to stick around as a main love interest for the next 100 seasons (or however many HBO decides to waste money on) but Seema breaks off with Zed. 🤦‍♀that relationship had the only sparks of joy, chemistry and sexiness left in this sad excuse of a reboot so of course they had to flush it down the toilet. We need more time for Che to ponder their weight issues of course, as well as take another stab at Carrie destroying Adian's life. Yay! Fun! PS: glad to be back on the watch train though.

I agree with most of your review. Charlotte's face actually looks a little less filled this season. Che is insufferable and pointless. I loved Miranda back in the original show, she's awful now. Miranda lines are all yelled, it reminds me of you everytime you talk about the book REVENGE! WHY WERE ANY OF THESE PEOPLE INVITED TO THE MET GALA/BALL!? Carrie wrote for a column like 15 years ago, wrote like 2 books maybe 10ish years ago, and now she's on a podcast. The first sequence we’re shown is the main cast having sex with their respective partners and yes, even though it appears at first glance that maybe, just maybe, the writers and producers of the show have heard us, we go back to same silent and empty reality of the reboot. Even though Carrie’s podcast has been quite successful and more present this time around, we’re still missing her narration, making the scenes feel unfinished and overly silent. I think it would have been amazing if her narration would have resumed since her podcast could have become a bit like her column. Telling the sexcapades of Carrie and her friends in a new New York City, filled with political correctness and apparently, a scarce population of sexy men. Something that really bothered me on this episode, is that the plot revolves around Carrie, Charlotte, Seema, and Anthony, being invited to the Met Ball, and the thing is, this could have been a very good opportunity to showcase Carrie Bradshaw, NYC fashionista, an icon in the streets of Manhattan and the Upper East Side’s style on the best and most iconic environment for her…the Met Ball. But no, let’s just show y’all a less than 10-second-long appearance of the iconic Vivienne Westwood wedding gown from the first film and then PAM, dark screen, the credits roll, with no further scenes showcasing Carrie and company at the Met, or showing off her beautiful dress and cape. What’s even worse is the lack of continuity…the Met Ball and the outcome of said occasion is never spoken about ever again after the end of the episode.

It’s horrible, isn’t it? Remember in the original they were all super successful career women. Miranda was a lawyer, Charlotte was a gallery owner, Carrie was a hot shot writer for a big newspaper. So good it landed her a book deal FFS. Samantha was a PR pro. It’s tragic what happened to them all with this abomination. They’ve actually made it less feminist by dumbing them all down in favour what I refer to as modern feminism as in it’s now about being super woke, crude, vulgar & everything is about your sexuality & sexual identity.

This episode was written a lot better than the whole previous season BUT I feel like they are pushing “Che” to be a narcissistic f*ck boy. I’m thinking Miranda is going to get screwed over by Che and I’m Over Che having so much screen time. Che is like “Mr. Big” but without class or any likeability. Also Carrie discussing poached eggs was horrible writing.

I thought the lazy, unimaginative writing in Season 1 was dreadful, but I can see we are in for the absolute dregs of literary hell. Otherwise, the plots haven't changed. Seema...Samantha. Seriously, I loved SATC but hated the first season of AJLT, yet I felt like I had to keep watching if only to see if it got better. I'm still not sure if I want to watch this, but hey, at least I got the best commentary, right? Also, Lisa Todd Wexley's husband is played by Christopher Jackson, who's insanely talented despite his unlikeable character, which I guess means he's doing his job well.

My wish would have been that they had: 1. Addressed Samantha’s absence by just saying she was back in Dubai or something, they could have glossed over it by writing a scene where Carrie said she just dropped her off at the airport after being by her side for 6 solid weeks of togetherness after Big died or something witty like that. 2. That Carrie found out that Big wasn’t as rich as they thought and only left her with a million dollars: the witty part being it’s enough to pay off her small apartment but not enough for jimmy chu’s. 3. Thus, she’s a working girl again and needs the podcast to be a success, enter live ad reads about dry va-jay-jays. Sex and the City meets 50-something lady crisis, hilarity ensues - add back in Carrie's Voice Overs. The quiet tone is boring.
