Who eats salad with their hands , not here in Portugal,, we use utensils, only pizza and burgers and barbecue we eat with our hands. Eating with your hands regular food is rude. Entrecosto passes if you're eating outside and in a less formal place but not in restaurants or when inside
I was a bit lazy before with language, but now I'm determined to learn it this year at least basic conversation💯 And I love it here in Portugal. Every day is better because of how amazing this country is. 🫡🇵🇹 Thank you for your comment👍
5:16 - Some people do, some don't. Those who do it's usually as a "strategy" to eat less in the main dish.😉 I'm in the "don't" camp, I only eat soup for dinner. 7:42 - If they bring you an olive oil, a vinegar bottle and table salt, it usually means that the salad is not seasoned and you have to do it yourself. 😉 12:17 - Chocolate mousse with strawberries. When you have the chance, try it. I'm sure it'll go straight to your list of Things That Go Well With Chocolate Mousse. 😄 That waiter is what we call in Portugal "um pintas". The equivalente in English would be something like "quite a character". He's more traditional than the food you ate. 😂
@module79l28 What I noticed about the soups in Portugal is that they are usually just vegetables. In Latvia, we have soups more with potatoes, meat, pasta (everything that's in the fridge 😁), etc. It's like a stew. And I think this was my first soup in Portugal. You know what? It was a positive surprise 👍🇵🇹 About the oil and vinegar, you are right - it wasn't seasoned, DIY 😂 Strawberry and chocolate mousse, I know what I will order next time 😄 Robert (the waiter) made fun of me because I was speaking to the camera a lot, but he was super cool and professional also 😄 I laughed about your comment - more traditional than the food we ate 😂😂😂 Thanks!!!
@@millionplacesoneworld - Well, potatoes are also vegetables, aren't they? 😄 Yes, the large majority of the soups you find at restaurants are almost exclusively made with veggies, the only exception being the Caldo Verde, the Canja (chicken soup) and a few ones with different types of pasta in them. The non-exclusively veggie soups are usually "special" soups, made only in some regions or for special occasions. If you want to see and/or experience what types of soups we have in Portugal, I recommend going to the Soup Congress (I'm not kidding, it's really called that) in Tomar. It's held in May at the Mouchão Park, that "island" in the middle of the river.
@module79l28 I think I need to hire you as a channel advisor😄 You always have a lot of good information about Portugal👍 Thank you. About the Soup Congress, that would be a good opportunity to try all the soups in one go😁 By the way, this food review video was an experiment (and it looks like a successful one so far), so I will need information about food festivals and markets😁 I bet you know a lot about when and where they happen in Portugal🇵🇹
@@millionplacesoneworld - I know about those at a regional level, not so much about those at a national level but I'm sure you'll have no problem finding info and dates and locations online.
I think you don’t even know that, but you have the best travel channel about Portugal! Keep smashing it! Come back to Figueira da Foz, we have a lot of good food here. Cheers mate!
@guilhermegress Hey Guilherme🫡 How have you been? I know I said that I would come back earlier this year, but I still haven't managed to. But we will, we will...I want to show my wife. To this day, I think Figueira is different from any other coastal part of Portugal (in a good way). See you, bro!🇵🇹
@@alexandrevieira1391 He was roasting me for how I said, I believe😁 But after this I will know for sure how and what to say 👍He's alright, made some good content 😄
It depends on what you are looking for. If it is bitoque, then no, you will not get the classic barbecue steak taste(but I love bitoque taste). However, if you go to specialized steak places, you can find options like wagyu etc. 🫡 But I will be honest with you, I come from Latvia and I discovered steak in Portugal, when I was 33 years old 😄 So I bet you know more about steaks 😎💯
Please don't listen to this guy, don't go around saying "fachavor" to everyone instead of "por favor" or "se fizer favor" or something similar 🤣 not that you can't but it's very "slangy" almost. Very informal in some contexts. But it's fine either way
Okay, thank you👍 We understand that it's more commonly used between friends and acquaintances. And "Por favor" is correct also, but my pronunciation was wrong😬
Hi, as a portuguese I recommend you to try the hidden but the REAL Portuguese cuisine, e.g. "cabrito assado" (goat), "lampreia" (tasty river fish) or "arroz de sarrabulho". These are all traditional dishes from northern Portugal. Keep the great vids👍
Hey 👋 Thanks for the recommendations 👍 I have a question about "lampreia." I just read about it today. Is it served in the blood of the fish, or am I mixing something up? 😁
@@millionplacesoneworld you can easily find great places to try "lampreia" in Ponte de Lima, Caminha or Valença (Minho region). However, it is a sazonal fish, available only at the beginning of the year (January to March)
A BIG grilled DOURADA in Sesimbra fisherman village straight from the Atlantic ocean to your plate...for me its HEAVEN ON EARTH! Keep going dear couple! Love your channel 🤗🙏🏻❤️
Oh yeah...that is indeed heaven on Earth💯💯💯 Also, that's a great episode idea. We need to find a fisherman to document the whole process😁😁😁 Thank you for your kind words🤎
Me my wife and my daughter always eat soup at lunch and dinner, they eat before the main dish i eat after the main dish cause i dont want to loose my appettite and is a good source of vitamins and minerals since our salads are usually only lettuce tomatos carrots sometimes onions and cucumber
Well, I think Portuguese soups are just vitamins and totally forgot that food is the best supplement 👍 Thank you for sharing! Wish your family good health🙂
Chicken is also one of my favorite dishes, always fresh and tasty in Portugal🇵🇹 Bacalhau ... that needs a separate series of episodes😁👍 Too good. Thank you for sharing your top foods🫡
Happy Birthday! Olives and bread is not a scam. If you don’t want it, you can tell them to take it back. PT is definitely a soup country. Was surprised that it’s always an option. By the way-what kind of soup did you have? I missed it. Also surprised fish consumed in PT was low compared to meat. PT is definitely a fish country as well. Cheers. 👋🏻
@lucchese20 Heeey👋 Thank you 🥳🥳🥳 Exactly like you said, it's not a scam, it's a great option 👌 A scam is when you go to tourist traps and they bring you slices of cured ham, cheese, and olives and charge you the price of a meal for 10 people for that 😄😄😄 The soup was vegetable (carrot). I'm not usually a soup eater, but I'm starting to adapt 😁 About the fish/meat ratio, yes, Portuguese eat a lot of fish, but Churrasqueiras are everywhere, so meat is a big deal here. I know for myself when we first arrived, I ate a ton of fish, now it's less than that. But when we get to good fish and seafood, oh man, it's a feast of a lifetime 😄😄😄 Cheers!

Nowhere🙂👍 I will make adjustment what we got for 30 euros - couvert, 2 soups, 3x Beers😄, vine(half liter), entrecosto dish, bitoque dish, biggest chocolate mousse, bolo de bolacha dessert, 2 coffees, singing waiter and tons of fun. It's cheaper to eat out than to cook same at home 😂
"when eating, forget the mobile", "if you talk, have your mouth empty", "don´t eat with open mouth", "don´t play with the food", etc, etc ... - Please, take all these tips very seriously, or if you want to annoy us, Portuguese people, do that ... BUT don´t forget, they ( me included ) will come for you! Happy Birthday + Have fun! 😁🖤 🇵🇹
Good one 😁 I appreciate your suggestions, we will try our best, BUT we want to share this experience with others! P.s. We sat outside so we don't annoy customers, so we know the deal 😁😁😁 We just love Portuguese food 🤎🇵🇹
@@millionplacesoneworld Even in the street its "dangerous" doing that. The Portuguese people is everywhere, even there too. ( Even these days they are getting rare ... ) 😅😉👍
We have many regional soup festivals, we have a variety of different soups, from North to South, on the islands. The most traditional ones are not even crushed, in Alentejo we use bread a lot in soup, in other regions other vegetables and even meat or fish (fish soup, various meat soups...). As a rule, our meals start with soup and in more inland areas, soup is the only dish in some meals, some of which are very nutritious and caloric for those who work for hours in the fields. In certain regions breakfast is soup. New people and people from cities are losing the tradition of soups and adulterating/adapting recipes! Children, some throw tantrums when soup appears. Enjoy
Meat and fish soups, I know what I'm going to look for😁 Thank you for sharing this information, because from what I've seen until today, I only know the orange/yellow one that was in the video and the green one (caldo verde, I guess)🙂🇵🇹
I loved the video...And I'm strict vegan (pure vegetarian) so I wouldn't even eat most of what you have! But the video is wonderful fun. Soup at the start of a meal is great. We've had piri piri in Portugal and - since we like spicy foods - we loved the piri piri. "Por favor" or "se faz favor" -- either is fine! Coffee makes almost anything better -- brilliant Idea to add it to the chocolate mousse. And of COURSE you have to enjoy a coffee after a meal -- and first thing in the morning, and multiple times during the day. I love the coffee in Portugal. Muito bom, meu amigo! ...You and your wife are a joy to watch as you enjoy dining. Obrigado e tchau :)
@@littlejoeUTube Obrigado Amigo🫡 As you are my member, what dish I shoud review next, from Portuguese cuisine? What is your favorite? We are filming next episode tomorrow, I will try it 😉🇵🇹 See you soon! Tchau!
@@millionplacesoneworld Sorry ...Been busy and just saw this now! ...Since we are vegan, much of what we eat in Portugal at restaurants is at Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern or other "ethnic" restaurants that often offer dishes that are - or can be prepared - vegan. Our typical breakfast in Portugal is good strong coffee ☕, and fresh bread with olive oil. We have only visited Portugal twice so far (2-3 weeks each time, with another visit probably in Spring 2025, possibly for a longer stay), so perhaps half of our lunch and dinner meals are at restaurants. If we are doing dinner in our rented flat, that has often been bread with hummus, olive oil, and olives, with some nice vinho tinto (red wine). Lunch is often our larger meal. It IS wonderful for vegans like us that many places seem to understand veganism, and therefore have some options on the menu. This may be in part to Portuguese law that requires that public entities (schools, hospitals, etc) always have a vegan option on any meal's menu. We DO hope to one day arrive early enough at one of the places offering vegan pastel de nata - to be able to try it! So far, I've never tried this famous Portuguese treat!
@@littlejoeUTube Thank you Joe for sharing👍 I'm not sure is it even possible to make Pastel de Nata vegan. I know cheese and vegan ice cream(not fruit sorberts etc. but like cream) are really good nowadays. I don't eat dairy(when possible), so I know. Let me ask around about vegan version of Pastel De Nata, if I will find I will let you know 😎 But yes, Portuguese traditional cuisine is heavily based around meat, fish, dairy(in sweets), so in small cafes it's harder to find options. Take care amigo! Tchau🫡
Bitoque, my favourite dish, is always a thin steak with french fries, rice, small salad and fried egg. If by any chance the meat is pork, that would be written in the menu.
@@millionplacesoneworld, nope. Prego is also cow meat, in a sandwich. Bifana is pork in a sandwich. You can also have “prego no prato”, very similar to bitoque, with the fries and the fried egg, but the meat is thinner. The difference between bitoque and prego no prato is not very clear and depends on the restaurant. We do love our steak 😂

i kinda like the funny-heckler-type-style of the server...is not that common in Portugal, definitely not common in/around Lisbon...but is being kinda picky about the faz favor/por favor...oh well
Haha...same for me😄 At first, Robert (the waiter) shocked me a bit, but in the end, he made our restaurant visit unforgettable 👍 Respect for him 😎✊️ And thank you for your comment 🫡
Great video and yes we eat soup before or after lol. I like after. But we don t eat soup drinking beer ahah. Thats like a crime lol. Congrats for this video and the waiter funny as hell too
I know that in Portugal, there are 1,000+ traditional dishes, 1,000+ pastries and desserts. Don't tell me there are also 1,000+ soups! 😄 I will need to make 3,000+ episodes just to cover food in Portugal! 😄🇵🇹
Old-day tradition, then? 🤔 I know my wife always eats soups in restaurants. I wasn't a fan before, but this was good. I have to try different varieties to come to a conclusion🫡🇵🇹
I tried inguias in Aveiro. It wasn't bad, but I ate a big pot for four people with potatoes, onions, etc., and the next day I was sitting in the toilet all day 😄😄😄
@@millionplacesoneworld - Many restaurants around the country serve Alheiras but if you want to experience the "real deal", you must go to Trás-os-Montes. I know, it's 5-6 hours away from Cascais but it's worth it. In other places it's kind of hit or miss, you never know if you're going to get a traditionally made Alheira or an industrially made one.
I made a mistake with my English. I meant that usually the molho picante and piri piri (in my experience) is with olive oil in one bottle. This was a new format for molho. I hope that makes sense now😄
@@millionplacesoneworld if you are in a informal environment, talking to friends or work buddies you use "se fazes favor", because you are using an implicit "tu", but if your are talking to your boss, or someone your need to keep some distance like a police man you use " por favor", there an implicit "você"
Okay, new info 👍 Obrigado 🙂 So if I don't know person it's better por favor(pur favur) and if I know then faz favor 🫡 Funny that in Latvian(my native language) and Portuguese "tu" is you 😄👍
Hey Andres, I made it to Central Portugal, living there permanently since the end of last month ;) it's the same guy from the "Keep it simple, stupid." RU-vid channel. I told you I'd make it there :). Oh, happy birthday! Mhm, I'm learning "Por Favor" on the Duolingo app, Brazilian Portuguese...
