I want to personally thank you for creating masterpiece analysis of individual characters and reminding why this story is just top notch. You remind me just how amazing and impactful it has been to my love of anime, manga and great story telling... But what I am most grateful for is being a pirate on your ship.
It's incredibly ironic that the whole deal about inherited will and the major plot of OP is about the past and history BUT Luffy himself is not interested about the past and yet, he seems to be walking on the path of his destiny and seems to carry Roger's and Ace's will (and to quote Whitebeard: "bearing the weight of history). He deliberately walked away when Nojiko wanted to tell them about Nami's past; he actually doesn't know most of his crews backstory. I think there is a a specific reason why Oda goes out of his way to portray Luffy as someone who has absolutely zero interest in the past. Maybe it hints at the possibility of Luffy defying destiny at the end (remember when Rayleigh said that they'll maybe come to a different conclusion than the Roger pirates). But on the other hand, everything up until now points to Luffy as "the chosen one" that the world has been waiting for for centuries.
I kinda think Luffy is both "the chosen one" and not. If he really was destined to do something, he wouldnt be a free man, he would simply be a pawn that follows exactly what people prophesized him to do. I think Luffy does follow the path that has been laid out to him, making him the chosen one, but he defies destiny in every step by rushing into action.
@@Predated2 Luffy is not someone who is going to follow destiny even if he knew about his destiny. He'll always just do what he feels is right to do. Destiny or the past won't be a conscious influencing factor for him. BUT, he might just very "naturally" walk into it without himself knowing. So it's not the same as him being restricted and "not free" just because he ends up walking the path of destiny til the end. For him, it'll all still be his own choice and his free will. Also, destiny can come in many forms. It's not just fixed on his choice and actions. It can be the people he'll meet and befriend (think about how he jus so happens to end up becoming a brother to Ace, the son of Roger and WB and Sabo, who ends up with the revolutionaries) or make enemy of (like how the Ds are destined to be enemies with the celestial dragons). It can also be him surviving even if there's only 1% chance. And what I mean by defying destiny is Luffy actively and completely changing whatever outcome destiny was supposed to be. Luffy is a complete wild card. As Oda stated, sometimes even he himself doesn't know what his next action will be. It's not the story happening to Luffy but it's Luffy happening to the story and I love it :D
So true. Remember how Luffy often says he likes heroes but he's not a hero, he's a pirate. Its that tension between freedom and destiny, and somehow the two are connected with Luffy.
Reminds me of the quote: You die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time".
i just thought of : “I heard you die twice, once when they bury in the grave and the second time is the last time that somebody mentions your name” -Macklemore
I love the theme of "choosing how to die" in One Piece so much. Literally everybody who died in flashbacks, and even Ace and Whitebeard, went out on their own terms.
all the more reason wano seems to really be one of the last arcs but smiles are devil fruits, perhaps chopper will somehow "cure" devil fruits and their effect
yeah also it hit me the will of D when luffy sad to the ballon that he decide when to die and the old grandpa smiled... i realised thats the will of D.. people who carry it decide how, when and why 'Will Die'. boom.
One of the most iconic scenes for me has to be when Brook Shouts to Luffy that he is so glad to be alive. I have suffered from loneliness a long time throughout my life and after a being saved by my friends and they showing me how much I’m appreciated, I feel just as strongly to be alive as Brook does. I have always chosen the easy way out just like Brook and fell off the ship. But now I’m thankful to be alive and to have my own dream.
Dr hirulook's philosophy of when a man dies hit me when I was around 8-9 and when I rewatched when I was around 11 If I can inspire someone with what I love then someone can carry on my dreams and ideals even when I'm long gone and that cycle will continue This hit home especially because during those times because I was truly afraid of the concept of death back then and would grasp onto the ideas of the after life because of this
Hey Ohara, can you make an analysis video on the moment when Luffy realizes that he still has his friends, after Ace died? This one always brings me to tears and I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.
I justice realized when chopper said that I will even cure a country ...what if he cure's the people of wano, those who have eaten artificial devil fruits...I think it will be a great character progression for him PS GREAT VIDEO 👍
O'Hara Read this!! Ace said he won't die, at least until he has a wimpy little kid brother who can't handle himself. His death also shows that Ace now sees Luffy as a grown up
And also when Ace dies, he says "I carry the blood of demon" If you have read asian fantasy novels especially Chinese ones, in them a demon is not exactly a evil being. Many popular novels/webnovels have main characters viewed as demons by the world and even MC themselves agreeing to it, like fuck yeah, if being Me is demon then I'm a Demon, so what can you do about it, ill do whatever i want. It can be good and aslo can be bad. But both good and bad shares one specific trait and that is to be free of world views and its bounds. Doing things what the true heart wills. Just like current pirates and ancient kigdom. What i get from that Ace's single line is lot more than any other instance where something is mentioned about will of D. I carry the blood of Demon or carrying the Will of D, it feels same to me, I think its definitely has something to do with the word Demon.
Man... You are the best One Piece reviewer. You have the power to make us remember every time the reason we love this story. I have no words to show you my thankfulness
I'm half way into this with tears in my eyes. I have to save this for when I get home. I don't want my colleagues at work wondering why the hell I'm crying. This is my favourite backstory.
Love Choppers' backstory. Dr. Hiruluk is such an amazing character and what a superb ending he had. Each of the strawhats have their own tragic backstory and they all manage to be different but still have a red-thread that's common for them all. Ave Maria as the choice of music just hits that perfect detail in the anime. So good Great video as always Ohara! :)
hiruluk remains one of my favourite characters in the show despite being from a relatively underrated/overlooked arc, his speech about death is one of the most profound speeches in one piece and it's crazy that it came so early from such a specific character
Time to grab the tissues again! Dr. Hiruluk’s speech is still one of my favorite quote I’ve ever seen/read! It helped me to go through tough times when I lost people close to my heart. When you lose a dear one you can’t grasp the thought that the person isn’t there anymore, and this particular scene helps me to bring all my sadness and sorrow out like no other. There are many great and tearful moments in One Piece but this will always stay with me. Dr. Hiruluk was a great man or like we say in german ein „Ehrenmann“. He and all the people we lose throughout our life will never be forgotten! ❤️
This video and message is beautiful. It is really special to me, when my dad died a couple years ago I used the speech Hiluluk gave in a speech in front of every friend my dad had in that moment. I am currently writing what One Piece means to me (A world of escape from my father disease and the meaning and message it gave to my life) and this video will certainly help me to put everything in words. Thank you
12:14 when chopper said that "I'll cure even a country" I think he will cure all the people on wano that is suffering from the side effects of SMILE df.
I've been saying that for years!! Literally since Blackbeard made his speech...that's when it clicked for me! Now I feel like it's actually obvious. It's either that...or...the will of the "DEAD" I think it comes to the same thing.
Sakura's arc: weak female becomes strong only to be over shadowed by literal Gods. But don't let that get you down feminists, Sakura is still physically stronger than most ninjas. In fact, she's so strong, she'd rather become a full time house wife.
@@troillandford7679 dont forget manipulating the main character after forcing him to promise to bring back a guy who hates and whats to kill them just cuz she finds him hot.
Dr. Hiruluk wasn't perfect, and that's why he was the closest to a father figure who Tony Tony Chopper deserved in his early life when he was saved. The Inherited Will does repeat amongst other One Piece characters, signifying the memories and dreams of those who lived as long as they could, never to be forgotten. When I visit this Arc about Chopper, the Sakura (Drum) Kingdom and why Cherry Blossoms mean so much here, you can't help but feel *nostalgic* for this miracle and hope for a better tomorrow. P.S: The next SCENE ANALYSIS is another amongst the times I grew enraged to the injustice and chains that hold the world of One Piece by the throat. Cannot wait to see.
This makes me hope the cherry blossoms of Wano will be the key ingredient for Chopper to cure the smiles or queens diseases or something else important this arc:,)
Me, before watching: oh boy, one of my favourite scenes :D Me, during and after watching: :'''''''( There will always be so much tears connected to watching this. Also, your video managed to make it even better to me.
Being overwhelmed by the packed emotions itself as a kid, seeing this scene and the whole analysis from your perspective has made me have nothing but utmost respect for you and as well as this scene 🙏 Having found people I can share my love for this anime and seeing videos that hits nostalgia makes you one of my most favorite favorite youtuber I've recently discovered thanks to the youtube algorithm. ❤️ Nothing but love from india, thank you for all the effort you've given for this video and the previous ones and hope to see more 💙👍
A chaque fois que je revois cette arc, je pleure comme une madelaine Les paroles du dr. Hiruluk resteront graver à jamais dans nos esprits Super analyse, merci pour tes vidéos de qualité
This is one of my favorite stories in OP and you brought some wonderful insight to the table, Ohara. Added a little bit more depth than what I had been seeing in this and it makes me appreciate even more 💕 wonderful work, Ohara. Thanks for your efforts!
I remember 11 years ago being vague and unsure about starting One Piece. It was almost 500 episodes and ongoing with no ending in plans. I thought just to not touch, as I do with Detective Conan still, by the way. Sorry for the tangent. So I have read a bit of One Piece wiki and I liked a lot of concepts, especially as I like pirate stories. And while reading about Devil Fruits, Geography and everything else I got so hyped that I dropped reading about OP and played first episode. And that was the best decision regarding my anime consumption, maybe one of the right decisions in life, as oddly as it sounds. One Piece is the best epic story I have read/watched, no piece of literature or cinematography haven't gave me so much joy and tearjerker moments as One Piece.
@@oleksandrbyelyenko435 same. I started watching one piece after pre-time skip. I'm glad because I give it a try. Now I'm reading it on a manga and watching the anime.
Idk why I didn't watched this anime ages ago I thought pirates are lame but in one piece the word "pirate" is just the icing in the cake I started 4 months ago I'm currently in ep 600
outdoing yourself once more... this is one of my favorites moments in one piece, Drum Island defenitively an underated arc. Along with Noland Flashback two of the most underated moments of the series, both carry so much weight thematicly for the rest of the story is almost absurd
After the whole secret D thing with Law, I keep seeing them everywhere in the story. Like hiruluk dying with a smile on his face and kureha mentioning the will of d don’t seem unconnected to me.
You know a story has been written exceptionally well when a single frame/panel can make you feel all the emotions the entire story contains, and in this case make you cry all the same each time. For me that panel is Chopper returning with the poisonous mushroom completely beat up from the journey.
no arc in one piece had me crying like the drum island arc (precisely choppers backstory with dr hiruruk.) you can feel the abandonment and pain that chopper went through as a child and when chopper left ddr kureha and screamed from afar I busted into tears :(
Maaan, i love SO MUCH the organization and the topics structure of your videos, it feels like taking a class of that teacher at high school on which you don't even feel like the time passing by, since it's a lecture so well-made, with passion, care, of a topic you clearly fell for it (like idk astronomics and black hole shit which is amazing) and dearly thought to that class in specific!! I mean, it's clear that you make those with the same passion as we, the viewers, watch and read OP, and that it is what make those videos of yours so mesmerizing!! :) Love your work, please do continue and never stop!
I love your videos man.. None of my friends enjoy one piece as much as I do and therefore I cannot discuss these topic with them, but with your videos it I found a place where to discuss and learn more about the depths of one piece!! Keep these up man love your content
Skypiea can also be seen as a microcosm of the One Piece story. Luffy, the natural enemy of god, taking him down to repair the errors of the past. Its fascinating how each arc is a small piece of the puzzle and yet encompasses what must be done on a larger scale. This is how you change the world. One journey at a time, one stop at a time, stand up to one tyrant, big or small, at a time. And if you ever fail, somebody else will take up where you left off. One Piece is pure genius.
It seems like perfect storytelling if you think of the concept of the inherited will introduced on drum island and what happens when it comes to climax in joyboys "birth" and the drums of liberation playing. Well played, Sir.
you are by far one of my favorite one piece youtubers. great work, great editing, great analyses with your videos, and i absolutely can’t stop watching
Inherited Will even works for Franky and Brook. Usopp maybe is the only one who doesn't have too grand a connection to Inherited Will, but it's Kaya's will that helps him keep making his stories come true. Franky carried on the Will of Tom, and even the Going Merry by building the Thousand Sunny and burning the Pluton blueprints. The Will of the Shipwright burns bright in his metallic body. Brook... literally lives on to carry on the Will of his crew, since no one else is left but Laboon. Brook should have died, but he lived on thanks to the Devil Fruit.
Edit: A bit long. I doubt you’ll read this, but if you do I’m curious what you think about the bottom part. Specifically Thriller Bark & Moriah. It’s off topic. But for how underrated it is, and how in-depth you get in ~ Something I’ve yet to hear mention is Buggy inherited Rogers Greed. We know Roger liked gold & amassed Wealth. It’s interesting to consider that the two apprentices inherited entirely different aspects of Roger. Even Shanks inherited the stability of Roger. As he didn’t turn the world upside down or into chaos, we have many examples of him keeping it that way. ( Out of choice of not being able to, but it’s still what occurred) Side note, I’m somewhat concerned about too much information of Shanks coming to light. As people these days tend to want so much information that the author never considered. Oda is so impressive at delivering successfully on high expectations. Even arcs like Thriller Bark are viewed as one of the worst, but it has some of the most emotional and interesting moments & characters. ( Kuma, Zoro taking Luffy’s pain, Brook’s back story, the shadows, even Gecko Moriah who continued to build up an army to fight Kaido, the only other two to do so are Luffy & Kid. The beast pirates being filled with captains who faced Kaido or his subordinates and ended up joining them. But Moriah, genuinely believed he had a chance. And the fact that he was so emotionally broken he refused to risk another crews death for his victory)
I just recently discovered your channel and started binge watching your vids I'm not the type of person who subscribe to anyone easily but this specific video of yours made me subscribed the analysis is superb and impactful to me especially the choices of words and great appreciation for every little details. your videos helped me ease my stress and made me more appreciate the story of one piece thanks for this great work!
Chopper is such an amazing character. Living for 7 years as a reindeer, he suddenly gains the intelligence of a human instantly. He then experiences abandonment and isolation, and then complete acceptance. He then grows up under the influence of pure idealism and generosity. And after witnessing tragedy, he then learns about how to be a real doctor, but that knowledge is layered on top of his kindness. Choppers mindset and growth is truly unique
Will is what makes man transcend time itself and become truly immortal. For the same reason, the scabbards were in some way, shape or form able to inflict damage on Kaido. It is not simply a physical manifestation of their haki(spirit) but at the same time it is a projection of the same will that they inherited from their lord Kozuki Oden even decades after his death. It is almost as if Oden himself has left fragments of his own spirit lurking within every member of the red scabbards during his final moments. Those who are loyal to Oden's cause will keep pursuing his dreams as their very own as long as Oden's will is there to guide them on their path towards radiance.
Ohara, your videos have been a breath of hope in these turmoil times, your endeavor in elucidating this great masterpiece of art manage to brought me to tears more than once,I loved the Nico Robin video, loved this one too, cheers from a brother (if may) from Brasil.
Beautifully done. Your narration was fantastic, brought the scenes right in front of my eyes making me tear up. Looking forward to seeing more of these videos
How miss the classical music in one piece sooo much, it is trully a shame what they are doing with the anime now. It is like the directos and editors dont get oda at all.
Thank you very much Ohara. You are opening the deepest meanings in one piece for me. Everytime i saw those moments in the anime or read them i thaught i understood them. But with you explaining and analysing it. You are opening one piece in a new way for me. Not as the story i know since i was 9. It get's better and better and better. Thank you very very much.
I discovered you on other video of yours, but i don't know why i liked you. This video made it clear,we both liked the drum island arc, which is my favourite
