Andamooka is an Aussie town you may not have heard of, but it may be somewhere you want to move to because, as we found out, it's the cheapest place in Australia to buy your own home. #Andamooka #SouthAustralia #RealEstate
This is actually a great idea when you think about it. Dying towns will be revitalised with cheaping housing to draw crowds and hopefully with it different professions that generate a community. Not to mention this will pull buyer's away from the cities and spread economy more around Australia which is something we need. This might just turn the tide on overcrowded expensive housing and jump start the economy and infrastructure boost Australia is sorely missing. Should make a series of little towns all around Australia telling a similar story, it will definitely make a difference 👍
Sure sound good but you better be useful in a town like that, if you have no skills at all then you don't actually bring anything to the community & just end up being a leech, good thing is these people don't last long in small towns like this & end up returning back to the cities for the free handouts.
@@DespaceMan 👍🏼 Glad you see the reality, not some socialists dream like Chris. One can tell he has no experience of life other than what he's been brainwashed with at his tax payer funded university.
I used to do shutdowns for the bhp bilton back in the early mid 2005 -2008 and they used to place us in the local pub for a week or two before there was room in camp back then I loved experiencing what the locals had to deal with.
More power to them..I would love to live like this but I'm five minutes from a major shopping center..My hubby would love this place..Dont tell him..lol
I use to cycle there from Roxby Downs, first time it felt like landing on the moon. It’s so different to anywhere and you have to be hardy to survive there. The pub was fantastic.
How much would it cost, or how many years of compost would it take to have a garden? What? No water? How is that "stress free?" No water? No trees or plants? I would be so stressed!
It’s actually very close a big mining town. Seriously, a big supermarket is just a 23 min drive away so need to grow your own food. They have water there too. I’ve been to Andamooka because I lived in the mining town for a year. It was stress free because - no heavy traffic, no traffic lights and a great mail service so you can order anything online and have it delivered…and many other reasons. Sure Andamooka is remote but because it’s right near a well serviced mining town it makes it easy for remote living.
Nope, that’s an serious underestimate of the actual temps out there- I used to live outside Coobers in 1986 at a place called Mirikata that has since been destroyed and I can tell you that back then I saw the temps hit 49 outside. The contrast between day and night temps were wild too depending on the season. I love the outback but these days wouldn’t think of it unless the house is at least partially underground, my solar system is massive enough to drive seriously good aircon and I’ve got my own water stored (because Roxby is the reason so many of the old reliable bores and wells are long dead, they’ve had free reign on the Great Artesian basin for over 40 years and are screwing the subterranean water systems for the entire continent). I would not want to be that vulnerable ever again- any disruption out there and there’s no back up. I won’t live anywhere without water and fertile soil anymore, I learned that in the desert.
I can only imagine what the costs are to live out there? Food, fuel, water (?) also emergency or medical support if something goes wrong … sounds great for those that are in good health and robust strong spirit … 👍🏼
Food ..fuel..is no different than the city ..Roxby Downs is 30 minutes down the main road for shopping with a Woolworths supermarket and a BP servo .. Andamooka has its own hospital staffed by the RFDS with dentist and physio +others flying in every month..if they can't fix you up they take you to Roxby or fly you out to Adelaide.. Water is pumped in to the caravan park and you have to engage a water truck to fill up your water tank at home ..we have a power station in town..I have better phone signal here than I had in Adelaide..
There is a CFS and SES station in town too so we are pretty much covered for everything.. My wife and I are only newbies here and are loving the lifestyle here..👍😁 ( ask me again in 12 months) lol
@@tommamerow8749 There is a CFS, there is an SES, there is a CES, and there is an RFS, but there's no SBS, there's no CBA, there's an ABC, but there's no CAB, and there's no way BAC. You got to love towns like ANDAMOOKA, it's an easy OUT, for BCC's to send their 101'S 4 under 50K.
There is a bit of tongue in cheek here....but the funny thing is...for thousands of people in the world...this joint would be heaven....I have driven through it...had a look around...hmmmm....not for me so much...but could be for thousands anywhere in the world....
The only medical service is the RFDS Health Clinic staffed by 2 nurses. Closest hospital is at Roxby Downs with only basic medical services. The video didn't mention how expensive it is to live in Andamooka, electricity, food, water which people need to research before making life changing decisions of moving there. It is a real culture shock moving to isolated rural remote towns with very little in the way of facilities.
You are absolutely correct- I’ve lived outback with a child and would never do it again, when they’re really ill it’s a white knuckle nightmare. Try paying three times the grocery bill at the shops…
Temperatures SOAR about 40? Seriously - the Westie suburbs of Sydney soar above 50 now that they have cut down all the trees and replaced them with nice tarmac, so that is not too harsh.

@@Ninsidhe I hear you and I think that is a far more reasonable temperature estimate. I have travelled the outback a little bit. Was on the Nullarbor in the late 80's once were it was 53 degrees in the shade. And drove from Alice to Tennant creek once, it was so hot the battery operated thermostat went cactus... I love our deserts but I doubt I could survive in them.
nah, the cost to build a small house is $250k so even if you got free land, no way it’d cost you less than 300k new. The only reason they got it for $50k probs because the person who built it probs took a massive loss when they sold
@@SSToor There’s a lot of owner built homes there and most of the houses are transportable homes - built in a factory and brought in on a truck. They don’t cost $250 - $300K. The better houses sell for more. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people living in Andamooka earning six figure salaries as it’s very close to Olympic Dam mine (BHP).
any other sculptors in Andamooka I can check their work out? glad to see the cheap housing is being used to enable creativity :-) if you are in Tasmania the equivalent place is Queenstown in Tasmania, allison
Blimmey this town is the same as Darwin California but in Darwin California I had only to drive an hour to Shop seems like I'll have to bring my Camel 🐪🐪 cheers cobbas ✌️🤠😂😂⭐
It’s not that hard to find that information if you look, like most country towns fuel and food prices are higher, medical services are nurse run and tele-health. The show said that most people are off grid which means you supply your own water/power and you decide your restrictions according to your catchment ability (water tanks are a few grand each). They probably have composting toilets (possibly with a grey water system). They most likely have no internet and they love it, I have lived in an off-grid situation in another state and I enjoyed it but its not for everyone.
you dont need sewerage, there blocks of land are large enough to install sepic tanks and leach drains, water tanks are the go,the town will have a medical centre, basic care, if you are a sick person stay in the cities, i have lived in small towns all my life ,except for a few years living in sydney, hated sydney and the traffic..love to bush or desert
Its a bit hard on the eyes, but the people look down to earth and friendly. I would like the peace and quiet but I think I would get bored with no water or trees around.
How did they get food, medicine, petrol and other supplies? Medical service? They don't look like growing their own crops. Do thew regularly drive to Port Augusta and Adelaide?
Next 3 days in Andamooka ..27 February 43 celcius 28th,40 Celcius 29th 40 Celcius ( currently 41 at 425 pm 🔥 🥵 NO THANKS I'm staying right here in Canberra .😁
I went to Andamooka and the town is cool but the people at the shop were rude and acted like they were better than you in their town i wouldn't go there if you respect yourself
And by the look of it no police station so you can drive home from the pub in any condition. Mam I'm gonna have to call you out on that 10 million dollars to move if you were offered 10 million dollars we would wonder who was making that trail of dust down the road, it'd be you going to your island, maybe you should have said 1 million dollars.
