Great video, thanks very much Simon. Planning to go there in February 2024 with the Australian Epic Pass. Luckily we will have access to Disentis as well as reduced train tickets. Just wondering if you had any tips or suggestions for cheaper accommodation in Andermatt? At the moment I've booked something in Sedrun but I'd rather be in Andermatt so we can have easier access to the Gemstock and I haven't been able to find anything affordable in Andermatt. Thanks very much!
Hi Fergus, thank you for your comment. Sadly no tips for cheap accommodation, village of Andermatt is pricey but if you can make it work it'll make a great base for your trip. I stayed in the Andermatt Alpine Apartments which were a mid-way in terms of budget.. but location and facilities made for a great trip. Let me know how you get on... and fingers crossed for good snow for your Australian season!
Hi, Love the video. Trying to decide on Andermatt vs. Zermatt (no Epic pass for Zermatt...so ski costs will be about $100 a day ppx4 daysx2 people=$800 more at Zermatt). Does Andermatt have the apres scene like Zermatt? Also, as medium ability East Coast skiers will Andermatt be too much challenging terrain for us? I am comfortable on the more easy black diamonds in US. Thanks!
Hey, thanks for watching. Both would be great holidays although obviously Andermatt would save you some $$$. Andermatt was fairly quiet Apres wise but I was also staying a bit outside the village. There are bars but I wouldn’t say it was party central. If Apres is important, the Epic Pass has access to Val Thorens (I’ve made a video on that) which does has an Apres scene. Terrain in Andermatt will be fine, plenty of nice blues and reds. Let me know if you have any other questions! Simon
Hey Simon, I’m from the states and we were thinking of coming to Switzerland last week of March into first week of April. Any recommendations for places to stay we have the epic pass and are traveling with 3 kids two will be in ski school. Also do you think it’s worth traveling there to ski versus just staying in the states? Sorry I’m throwing a lot at you. Thanks
Hey, thanks for watching the videos! I would definitely recommend coming to Europe to ski. I’m not sure what your local resort is but the mountains here are likely to be much larger, it’s just a different scale compared to the US resorts I’ve visited. In Andermatt I stayed at the Andermatt Alpine apartments which was great. Decent location, walking distance from the lifts, train station and town. Accommodation can be pricey however! Let me know if you have any other questions
@@devonpokersnik6602 Andermatt remains open into April and the Gemmstock remains open in May so there will be decent skiing. My video was filmed in April. No issue for language barrier for me. Most Europeans speak decent English as are taught from a young age. Obviously people’s level will vary, but there will be no issue in stations, restaurants, bars, hotels etc.
Both incredible, really depends what you are looking for? Verbier more party, Andermatt more chill. Both have great skiing. Verbier has a bigger area with links to the 4 Vallees…
@@rainmaker3700 are you an Epic Pass holder? If so I’d definitely go to Andermatt. Much better value. Tbh I’m not sure as I’m not in Switzerland atm. My friend works in Verbier and he said a couple days ago that the pistes are pretty grim right now…. That being said, can all change with a bit of snow.
Andermatt costs 90 CHF a day. But there is a option to buy a half price-pass. It's one time fee is 69 CHF but it gets you a 50% discount on day tickets so already after two days you get a lot of discount
Epic Pass would make it more affordable for most skiers so therefore should have attracted more people. I have a video that will look at the savings I made using the Epic Pass this winter… Do you use a Epic Pass?
Hi Lauren, thank you. Feel free to drop any more questions in the run up to your trip. The resort will open early December (dates not yet confirmed). I love early season, and in Andermatt you should have good conditions on the Gemsstock at least.
