Even without knowing Anderson was there, I knew that No 1 was the one from the beginning. When he turned and pushed Anderson to move, I knew this kid was used to taking charge of things. His walk of confidence and taking over gave it away.

In the 90s at my work, we used to chat with Kitty Carlisle often, my boss could really get her to talk. I find it difficult to believe she wouldn't have known Anderson through Gloria Vanderbilt already who definitely would have been in her same social circles at the time.

There's a difference between knowing the name of Gloria's son and recognizing him in a circus outfit trying to lie about his identity. She might have met him as a baby let's say, but it's likely the kids at that age were usually separate from the adults.

@merricat3025 you felt sorry for the bears for a good reason. "Physical punishment has always been the standard training method for animals in circuses. Animals are beaten, shocked, and whipped to make them perform-over and over again-tricks that make no sense to them. The AWA allows the use of bullhooks, whips, electrical shock prods, or other devices by circus trainers." Ignore comments by people who are either unaware of the cruelty or just don't care about anyone but themselves. Thankfully circuses with animals are outlawed completely in six states so far and have various restrictions in the other states in the US. "More than 45 countries, including India, Italy, Iran, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and the Netherlands, have already passed laws banning the use of wild animals in circuses." Your informed compassion is refreshing.

as i watch all these old shows, i’m constantly aware of how things have really changed. i don’t think that THESE bears were treated badly, but others were. and yeah, they were free, but they had to wear muzzles. even that little baby bear and she had to walk on her hind legs - i think she was too young for that. adults do it in the wild, but i’ve never seen a cub do that. 🐻🐻‍❄️

@donnawoodford6641
@donnawoodford6641 4 года назад
Laura Nolastnamegiven It's hard to know, and we'll never know. NR is not here to confirm what he may have said nor give any explanation. Decades ago, there was a different view about sexual assault. In general, if a woman wore "seductive" clothing, rape was considered her fault. The aggressor may have been tried in court, but the female was seen as part of the problem for choosing to wear something that excited a man sexually. Society later discovered the motive for rape is not sexual desire, but rather desire for power...iow violence. Hopefully, the confusion has been cleared and victims of abuse don't accept the blame for another's actions.

The bear can eat, drink, and breathe just fine. It’s also a common muzzle used on dogs and other animals that can bite. I don’t like circuses and am glad to see that at least here in the states circuses have pretty much disappeared. However, that muzzle is harmless and the bear is not only fine, but, given the circumstances, safer for not being able to bite anyone who might react harshly.

They were already going broke not long after the Biltmore in North Carolina was built. That is why they turned it into a museum. I don't think it has been owned by the Vanderbilt's for a long time. They swindled a lot of their money. Good thing Gloria had connections and could design. Her kids were raised very strangely. They were not treated like they were wealthy, Anderson's older brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, committed suicide on July 22, 1988, at age 23, by jumping from the 14th-floor terrace of Vanderbilt's New York City penthouse apartment I remember my family talking about how strange it was that his mother didn't seem very bothered by it.

Alan Kalter was the announcer. He later worked with Letterman

And in the same studio. Those celebrity panel CBS game shows were taped on weekdays in the Ed Sullivan Theater where Letterman did his CBS show. My dad worked around the corner and I was often in attendance watching the tapings. The shows that go back to the early 50s like "What's My Line" were exceptions in the early years as I believe they were broadcast live.

It's weird that all these future celebs in the entertainment industry first got their big breaks from these old game shows. All of which now makes me feel that none of this was just a coincidence; that the producers really intended to cherry pick "contestants" to bring on to the show who originally signed up for work in the entertainment business.

The thing about daytime game shows other than they're fun, they're also psychological experiments. Experiments made to look just like a game, how fun.

They sort of give it away when they show the footage of the bear act and all their costumes are red, just like what contestant #1 is wearing (intentional or coincidence?).

If you're wearing headphones, turn up the volume, you can hear the director.

You can hear "PAN" during the contestant intro, even without headphones. Seemed to happen often during that time. An example is on that 'Telephone Game' TPiR segment Wink posted a while back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KzrZCLB-DF4.htmlm42s (you can hear "Take 3" I think)
