Silva was simply a beast with very few weaknesses. I watched Nate’s fight where he destroyed Woodley so he was no slouch himself with great combinations.
@@Repetoire I wouldnt even say that. Id say technique vs strength. I grew up a fan of the fight game and a wrestler, so to see a muay thai/ bjj guy pull that off so effortlessly was really cool to see it work out in his favor the way it did. Of course I am biased because I used a switch in high school wrestling ALOT to score a reversal or help me escape.
Ohhhh stawp. We all love Silva but yk you have heard heads hit canvases harder especially on clean kos where the fighter falls all the way from upright position.
Nate is so underrated. That combo he hit T wood with is legendary. The narrative that todays fighters are so much more evolved is the most regurgitated bs narrative ever.
Watching the knockout Silva got on Franklin still hurts me to watch. Rich was my favorite fighter when I was younger, and if there had never been an Anderson Silva I firmly believe Rich would have had a title reign as dominant as any of the all time greats. Rich Franklin was the original Matt Holloway; better than everyone else in the division but unable to beat the all-time great champion who just happens to be active at the same time they are. The sport evolved SO much in such a short time in the early-mid 2000’s. Rich showed up and was a clear evolution of the fighters that came before him, with no real stylistic weaknesses, but then Anderson Silva came into the scene and immediately revolutionized stand up fighting in MMA with his extensive technical brilliance at Muay Thai.
Fun fact, Izzy would've beat Adersons record, and so would have Usman if they wouldn't of lost their last fights. Just shows you how good the spider was. He was not to be played with. His power was underrated.
As much as I don't like Izzy and Usman, all this shows is that the competition wasn't as good back then. Usman and Izzy would be undefeated during this entire era of the UFC.
And people say GSP is over Silva 😂😂😂 i took some time yesterday to watch some Gsp fights and bro... All five rounds, all decisions, when Silva was fighting the world stopped to watch him cause we were always expecting greatness in the octagon, he and Jones are the real goats.
@@themondoshow He hadnt fought rich twice when he fought nate, only once. You can even here goldberg talk about franklin hoping for the rematch during the fight commentary
I cant believe he stood them up like that, john mccarthy is trash or this was during a time where Dana White got shit for fights on the ground being boring and told the refs to stand up the fighters if it was even close to "not improving your position"
Was a different time and its kinda fun to see how the audience reacted to the fight at times i think people have a better understanding of mma now then before
Silvas ground game was fantastic. No matter if he was on top or bottom he was always looking to deal out damage, punches, elbows, up kicks, whatever. I cant really think of other fighters who do that. Maybe charles oliveira? Most are just looking to take the back and it turns into a jiu jitsu match, like they forget, hey! you can also punch your opponent.
He didn't say he wasn't active. He said he wasn't improving his position, and he wasn't. Wasn't doing any damage either. Silva landed more shots off his back.
@@ssss6572 Silva is good on his back theres no doubt, when Chael Sonnen dominated him for 4.5 rounds by taking Silva down over and over and Silva locked up a triangle at the very last moment. Nate couldve done the same thing. Just be aware of the triangle, Chael made a mistake and paid
Who is/was the greatest pound for pound fighter of all time in peoples opinion? For me it’s Khabib, but I’m relatively new to MMA so don’t know a lot about guys from this era.
Khabib is hard to rate because he left too early. Everyone else in the all time great category stayed long enough for the game to catch up to them. I’d say P4P Demetrius Johnson or Jon Jones are the best of all time purely on the variety of which they can win. Volkanovski is one who can rise up the list if he remains as great for another 2-3 years
Definitely Jon Jones. GSP lost, DJ lost, Khabib left early and faced mostly strikers. Jon Jones holds the record for title defenses and has never been defeated. He also faced the highest caliber of competition and is a 2 division champion. Objectively It's Jon Jones.
@@Vegas5150 Plenty of intelligence in the response for those intelligent enough to get it. Explain how the ref "saved" Silva if he's doing damage from the bottom and Nate isn't? Nate could only have been cheated if he was winning. The number 1 criteria in UFC judging is damage. So if Nate's not doing damage or advancing his position, how is he cheated when the ref stands them up after warning he needs to improve his position? This is not wrestling. The fighter on top is not automatically winning. Does that make sense?
@davidphillips1845 I saw it live and when I made the comment. Nate had him down and they got stood up after about 30 seconds, everything you say about losing from the top is laughable. He lost the fight yes, but that was where he could've finished it, the ref saved Silva from probably getting smeared Into the mat
@@Vegas5150 Must've been a cool fight to see in person. From this video I count Nate had Anderson down for 2 minutes and 40 seconds, from 4:07 to 6:47, during which he landed 5 or 6 pitty pat shots, about half what Silva landed and about half as hard. I say don't be emotional because if you're pulling for Nate you'll think about what he could have done on top. If you rewatch objectively you'll see Nate wasn't doing any damage or advancing his position -he got 3 warnings and stood up. Don't look at what he might have done like a fan would, watch what he actually did with the position... nothing. Compare the damage Anderson did from top compared to what Nate did. As for a fighter winning in the bottom position, watch the Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Dariush for a prime example of a fighter controlling the position from the bottom. MMA is not wrestling.
