Don't know where you got the idea that they collapsed. After the war Mon Mothma peacefully dissolved most of the rebel alliance and converted what was left into a fleet to provide security for the Republic. The real mistake was not finishing off the empire and allowing Imperial remnants to continue existing so that they could slowly rebuild strength.

I would argue that Saw's few appearances in Rebels are proof of the different ideological factions within the alliance, except by that point most of the alliance had, well, allied. By the end of the show they have successfully built up the military fleet seen in A New Hope, and even the season 1 finale with the introduction of Ahsoka was when the many rebel cells began to organise together as a collective. Andor is years before that though, when most of these cells are in their infancy though (with the exception of a select few like Saw and those Separatists, who didn't stop fighting even when the Clone wars officially ended).

There certainly are successful movements relying at least in part on anarchist thought, Rojava and the Zapatistas immediately come to mind, but yes unfortunately being defined by what you are against without planning for what you will do once the dust settles is a common error in activist spaces, and many self-described anarchists who are more Pistols than Proudhon only get in the way of real change. Within Andor for example, something I found fascinating is how “clarity of thought” is a “strength”of both Saw and the Empire. Self-righteous pariahs unable to understand the greyness of politics are doomed to whittle their time away until they die alone or lose the spirit of resistance.

Saw has been a favorite since the Clone Wars, such a fringe character driven by anger and revenge. Whitaker is awesome for this role and when he jumped on that AT-AT in Fallen Order I shed a tear.

Both actors have had amazing scenes over their time in show business, but this is a prime example where they bring out something extra when confronted by similar greatness of craft. Whitaker is killing this role, and sharing scenes with Stelan can only make it better.

Anarchy is a halfbaked mindset. It's like lighting candles on a birthday cake and then never blowing them out until the wax is all melted on the icing.
@Sophie-mv7bd
@Sophie-mv7bd 2 месяца назад
@@MonstersNotUnderTheBed Some people confuse poetry and analogy for insight. As if saying something that seems insightful makes it so. An analogy such as “leaving candles on a cake and never blowing them out” implies that the issue with anarchism is a failure to follow through. A belief that anarchists act without a plan. This demonstrates a failure of understanding of what anarchism is. A failure of understanding anarchist history. And a failure to understand anarchist practices. As such, you are ignorant of the subject they feel so comfortable speaking on. As many people do specifically for anarchism. They have become complacent in their intellectual curiosity and have refused to learn what anarchism actually is due to a misplaced self-confidence that tells them they know all they need from the anti-anarchist propaganda that had over the years become cemented into public understanding.

Luthen's just slapping Saw with a reality he's not willing to accept, yet. The fight against the Empire is way bigger than his own ways. Had the Death Star gone operational without any organized opposition, then that would've been the end of freedom, forever. Get rid of the Empire first, whatever follows should be way less severe.

I related to this a lot. I'm an actual anarchist mix of anarcho-syndicalist and synthesis anarchist. And people always say anarchists should just work with other communists, socialists, Marxists, Marxist leninists, maoists or whatever and we are all like no. I get that they don't like capitalism just like we don't but they want to install a authoritarian state. I don't want the us to become china or stalinist Russia so why would I ever want to work with them. They historically have killed anarchists after they win. The red army worked with the black army to fight the white army. Once the white army had been defeated they betrayed and murdered the black army in Russia. They did the same I Spain and China. They would here as well. So who you fight with and why you fight matters a lot!

That wasn't an upfront straightforward answer, that was a deflection to move things back onto ground where he could make his point. Discussion of what his true beliefs are about what the galaxy should look like after the empire falls is clearly in Saul's territory and he wants to focus on simply getting there first. But his strangely long pause and shifty expression for a moment reveals the truth - his own true beliefs are quite relevant and not at all the mere compromise for pragmatic victories now gospel he is preaching for the moment.

*Interesting. I truly felt that Luthen actually said how he felt upfront even though he still wanted Saw to meet with Kreegr which is probably still going to happen or at least have Kreegr show up in one of these last three episodes of season one. So, yeah. He definitely wants to see something occur in the long run of things.*
@charlesjenkins2090

@@starwarsunlimiteduniverse I don't doubt that what he said about his feelings are true, but its a very clearly defecting answer. Everybody has some sort of vision for what they want the galaxy to look like, what they're after, what their politics are other than "anti empire" (and especially because he came out against anarchism its clearly his philosophy isn't purely one of negation). This is what Saw was asking for, and Luthen simply didn't answer that question, instead he decided to seize upon another possible use of "who are you". But Saw specifically was asking him what his ideology is and he darn well knew it.
@Rnankn

It is the centra dilemma of politics. To gain enough support to win, it becomes necessary to dilute your ideas until they are compromised. That’s why everyone hates politics. Those that win power are hypocrites, and those that are true to their principles always lose.

I don't know that Saw is really an advocate for anarchy so much as a guy, like Luthen, who can't be distracted by what comes after the Empire when he's fighting for survival in the present. One can argue that Saw's paranoid and uncooperative, or simply that his idea of "cooperation" isn't to be manipulated the way Luthen does with Krieger. Luthen plays other Rebel factions like pieces on a board, expendable if necessary, the ends justifying the means - and to play Luthen's game is to agree with Luthen's rules, whatever they happen to be at any given moment. In trying to involve Saw in Krieger's operation, isn't Luthen just trying to sacrifice two pieces in the same move to facilitate another move somewhere else? The word "anarchist" gets bandied around here, whether it's accurate or not, because it serves Luthen's purposes to use it - but Luthen will say or do anything to achieve his ends. Luthen calling anyone anything doesn't even vaguely make it so. Everyone "working together" to defeat the Empire here means only fighting the Empire in ways, and at times, of Luthen's choosing.
@HolyknightVader999
@HolyknightVader999 Год назад
Saw's right, though-most of those groups rebelling against the Empire don't know what they're doing. It feels like if the Empire disappeared tomorrow, groups like the Ghorman Front, the Partisan Alliance, the Separatists, New Republicans, Human Cultists, Galaxy Partitionists, and Saw's anarchists would all be at each other's throats. The New Republicans obviously won at the end, though.

Anarchy is seductive because it offers the individual more power. The individual is all that matters. The individual can do what they want, when they want, to who they want without consequence. And when the resulting chaos becomes obvious and anarchy is rejected anarchists rebrand their beliefs as libertarianism and start the cycle over.

Saw is the best character in the history of Star Wars. A man who wants to break the state without breaking his dignity. Surrounded by racists and authoritarian extremists whose only beef with the Empire isn't control but who has it... feeling alone but resolute. My kind of hero. It's so relatable to anyone who has spent time in anti-establishment social media circles. Hate and distrust of the state spans many, many incompatible ideologies. Faced with an enemy as powerful as a "Galactic Empire," who would you be willing to fight alongside? Where is your line?
