*Hey everyone! I tried to show the whole scene per this recording, but it got blocked immediately. But, I'm glad that at least half of this scene went through for the video. Such great dialog & back & forth between Luthen & Saw once again. Can't wait for the season one finale next Wednesday.*
I feel like Saw ends up kinda being a self-parody when written by the wrong writers. Here his paranoia is completely justified, as he realizes just how wide Luthen’s net is. But he’s still a competent leader and knows what has to be done
*I definitely loved his reactions & his facial expressions during this scene. It was so great to see Saw react in his own way that we already know how he reacts. I'm looking forward to seeing him hopefully in season two!*
That's part of the tragedy of Saw. He was traumatized by the death of his sister. Then shortly after her death he had to watch his former allies, Clones, betray him and everyone he cared about, and had to watch the Republic take his home from him. He had to run from everything, and spent 20 years fighting a guerilla campaign without anyone he could fully trust or care about. By the time of Rogue One he's pretty much insane, and trapped in his own delusions and pain.
It's easy to see him as a parody, or be exasperated by his methods and paranoia, but having seen where he began and knowing how far he falls its just pitiful what became of him.
i play this video game with teams. When we were about to be top 100 which makes us a substantial group, I realize people were stealing my players. I made a joke about it, and one of our best outed himself. Then it happen again ,and I am now dealing with my third major event. I am in a weird position and my group got first place and ended a dynasty. I got there partly because Spies didn't find out I was trying, and my group was not thought of as a threat and kept quiet. But I lose a lot of players and my people are susceptible, because I don't even trust them. I am constantly looking for saboteurs. In a cut throat situation, Paranoia is a survival skill.
@@hih2023 Oh absolutely. Disney couldn't stay true to the character of Saw and release a show like that on Disney. Way too dark and violent for Disney, they've got a rep to keep. Now a video game, one where you must make moral choices between two horrible options continuously throughout the game, that could work.
I really need to say this, I bow to Forest Whitaker and thank him so much for being in Andor as Saw, there is no other actor that can or could play this role better than Forest Whitaker.
He is written as a good balance to offset Saws blind hatred of the empire. They play well off of each other. This is especially true in their first scene together.
Love how he keeps repeating “and kreiger” a character the audience has never met. But we are reminded the weight of these people who are being sent to effectively die
One of the most powerful aspects of this scene is how often Luthen says "plus kreyger". For as cold and devious as we see him it shows a level of weight that he mentally carries. He doesn't make these decisions lightly. It's 30 men plus kreyger.
Pick a star wars movie or series with the quality of actors involved. Adam driver and them great but it's not these legends or future legends like in this show. Andor is by far their best work since Rouge 1 and those 2 are the best since phantom manace. I'm not counting the cartoons in my ranking
This is Star Wars as it should have been written years ago. A gritty, authentic exploration of the seeds of rebellion grown under the hardened cement of tyranny and the ugly reality of the origins and mechanitions of war. Well done, in every respect.
I like how anytime Saw says "30 men" Luthen always adds "plus krieger". It shows that Luthen really still cares about him even though he is going to be sacrificed.
This is such a bad take. 1st- He lies about the # and the proof is he told Lonny it was 50, probably because he knows he'll eventually find out. 2nd- He's pretending to care as much as you think. He manipulated Saw into thinking it was his choice. He made up his mind before he got there.
this series is a masterpiece. i’ve never felt so emotional and attached to a show. the writing and acting and tone of the entire series is amazing. there’s so many memorable moments, so many good characters. this is 10/10 star wars content and probably one of the best shows i’ve ever watched.
More like 10/10 great drama, character and spy show with star wars set as the backdrop. Swap out the setting and some small rewrites, plug into WW2 setting or even modern day and it remains compelling.
Best scene of episode 11. Wonderful the way Saul's eye was wide eyed and crazy/irrational. But once he calms down both eyes are focused on the greater mission to lull the empire into thinking they've won. Just brilliant acting.
Skarsgård not getting a golden globe nomination has to be one of the biggests snubs of all time. But I'm glad Diego did. Skarsgård deserved it more, though. Epic acting. In fact the acting of almost every side character in this show is magnific.
i wouldn’t say “more” … what diego did was phenomenal, too. his performance is so subtle yet grounded and diego’s own writing of cassian’s backstory and his personal biography as a mexican who supported and protested for the zapatistas as a young man was instrumental in forming the character of andor. diego absolutely put in the work and you can tell. this show probably wouldn’t exist without luna’s creativity and dedication to this role, so they are extremely fortunate to have cast him back then for rogue one. but yeah, you are obviously right about skarsgård, too; he is one of my new favourite actors. i first saw him in chernobyl and was completely entranced by his perfomrance-and that’s another series full of far too many brilliant actors to choose from. in an ideal world, they would have both gotten the award/nomination.
I love that he has to pull a gun on saw to get hs attention; and the way saw first reacts to the fact that Luthens willing to burn Kreiger in spite of him being a sep.
I love this scene. A detail at 2:45 Luthen says "I did not want you to have to make this choice". I think he sees it as his duty to protect the souls of the rebel leaders by being the one making the ugly calls.
Forest Whitaker has years stage play experience, very talented, both talented Skarsgard too, the dialogue and writing is excellent, I was feeling the tense emotions
What I love about this scene is that the show runners gave the actors room to perform, to let the scene breathe. I love the way Whittaker lets you see Gerrera start to spin out, the way his intelligence and paranoia go into overdrive, pulling him out of the conversation as he starts making connections and extrapolating further based on those connections, probably mentally flipping through the roster of his own guys, trying to guess which ones were Luthen's. The writers, directors, and showrunners did so many things right for Andor.
I really like this shows characterization of the rebels. While admirable and brave what they are doing. It just feels like you cant trust any of them. Also looking forward to Mon Mothma world coming apart and her uniting these rebel cells.
*Yes indeed. You cheer for them even though they may react in a way that you may not like to get the results that they want to see. You still root for many of them. And for sure can't wait to see how Mothma moves as her story continues to progress.*
@Westward Star *I'm curious as well. Something that Mothma doesn't seem to approve, but for her daughters happiness, she agreed to allow her to do it at their home. Even Vel seemed concerned too. Maybe this is in line her disagreement with Davo from last about the Chandrilin traditions. I believe that this will cause her to want to agree to meet with Davo's son even more, even though Mothma doesn't want her to.*
I love how when saw says 30 men, luthen always says “plus krieger”. Really shows that although he is doing very morally questionable things, he is aware of every life that he dooms, and it just adds to the burden of having to sink to the empire’s level to best them. This truly is the best writing in any star wars thing
"i did, not sure right now"..........STRAIGHT GANGSTER.........the honesty in that and the truth of understanding you don't always know everything and to be honest about it.
"You think its worth losing kreiger? ... Kreiger's never met me, he can't hurt me... Like I can? ... " "For the greater good... Call it what you will.... Let's call it: war."
This is a very unique scene to me, because it feels like each of their choice in words are more dangerous than the guns they're holding. This is a very strange theme for Star Wars and it works perfectly!
One of the things no one seems to talk about is how big was Kreiger's (SP?) force? Lonnie brought up the number of 50, and Luthin did not correct him. Saw says 30 men, and Luthin only adds "Plus Kreiger." In both cases, he let the person bringing up the number think they have an accurate accounting. I wonder why?
because Luth may not know himself of the numbers. Kreiger may not have all of his forces go in on the raid or he could pick up additional ones just like he needed airpower to come in.
@@toomanyaccounts I think you are missing the point. Twob different people have given two different numbers. The person who they looked to to confirm or deny has made them each feel as though they have a handle on the intelligence, and the he (Luthen) is in control of the situation. Now, this is either a script continuity error, or Luthen is not telling (or doesn't know) the actual number. He's not letting anyone else see that card. It's just an observation, not an ISB case.
These are cells. No one should know. I play a game where other teams have targetted me for sabotage. My response is hide some of my players in other teams I know is loyal to me. Rule from art of war, when weak, look strong. When Strong, look weak. Last year I took first place. I broke my enemies streak of years!!!!! They thought I was little and didnt see my coming. Partly I was lucky. They spent everything on a known threat the war before, and when we tried, they weren't expecting a back to back attempt.
Saw Gerrera is like Osama Bin Laden...Chances are Forrest had to study certain real life extremist personalities in order to nail the role and purpose of Saw.
*Oh for sure, if you're a perfector of your craft such as Whitaker is, I definitely believe that he put in the time & energy to play the Saw character in such a profound way.*
He is more of a Tom Barry figure in my opinion. He was a major figure in the Irish republican movement in Irish revolution and civil war while serving the British in WW1. Even became commander in chief of the IRA during the 1930’s
Something i picked up was the reason Saw realised hes got someone on the inside was because before this Luthen shouldn't have know Saw was going to accept the mission with Kreeger. This was meant to be the scene Saw tells him for the first time. But becasue Luthen went there to stop him it gave his source away.
Luthen play the whole scene by picking at Saw's rage and paranoia. He knows that at the end of the day, the extremists will only fight to hurt the enemy at any cost. But he knows that the rebellion will only work if they're willing to sacrifice smaller pieces in favor of greater outcome.
this show is by far the best thibg Disney has done with Star Wars, mt god, I hope they go on with this momentum because whoo boy, they cracked the code
It was a missed opportunity that Saw Gerrera only got a few scenes in the whole series; he should’ve been featured more prominently as one of the most active factions of the Rebel Alliance. In Rogue One, it is stated that they once worked together and then parted ways, so I was hoping to have that explored and explained in the series.
