Mr. Booth are you speaking seriously?, Andarse Schiff is the resume of the whole greatest pianists i' ve heard since I wás 7 years old and I Will turn 87 neta septiembre...
I actually feel offended by Andras Schiff here. I watched her play the opening movement and just thought, 'WOW! Schiff won't be able to thinkof anything to say here!" And he then proceeded to teach her basic high-school 6/8 rhythms? I have been listening to Schiff's recording of this sonata for years and have never been moved by it. Plamena, you are a lion and Mr Schiff is a mouse. You have more musicality inone finger than he has in his entire body. Please don't change a thing.
There are always things one can improve on, and I really think Schiff’s advice here helped her, hence her incredible recording of this sonata at the Queen Elizabeth competition in 2007 (one of the best ever in my opinion). She has constantly grown as a pianist, and you can actually even see it throughout this video. She’s always given him credit for helping her with this Schubert sonata. Look for her recording, it’s a thing of beauty. So moving.
Schiff's insight definitely helps in different dimensions of her interpretation. None of Schiff's advice is totally subjective. Instead, those ideas are based on reading the score and music critically.
Schiff never sounds bossy in the advices he gives her. After all 6-8 is not an absolute construct given one time for ever, even if ut appears as a notion of solfege. Interpretation means undestanding many times the same things under different points of views. Any kind of study deals with repeating. The only poor aspect of that lesson Is the Kawai..
