This waltz was written in the USSR a year before the start of World War II... What bright souls the people of that time had! Then, during the war years, the composer wrote completely different music, full of pain and tragedy... Shostakovich simply looked into the soul of each of us! And it’s amazing how this ageless music makes us all happy even now!

@@batatac4mil86 see, every place has its dark side. People working with him may not be very happy with the working conditions and all. Or something darker may be going on in the back. Music industry on its own has a very dark side to it. Musicians are underpaid whereas the owners of the orchestra make lots and lots of profit. It is like this right from the beginning. Even Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Schubert and all were very poor and often needed producers who'd finance them.

Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, romantic era pianist like Chopin & Liszt, Baroque composers, Beethoven, Mozart; Would probably find the art & talent in the genres you put down. Just looking out for you! There's great music in every era, and genre; music transcends, give it a shot!

André made classic music for all people, before it was only for the elite. His concerts grounds mostly in streets & squares. He added colourful gowns instead of black to induce vivid pleasurable feelings. Also he allows talented musicians and singers to join his performances. He is definitely an intelligent genuine gentleman with a vision.

I have a very limited income too but the least expensive tickets are as pleasing as the most expensive. Andre see to this at each concert. I've been to several concerts and have tickets to another next year. Few things in my life are more valuable then the time spent with Andre.

"Waltz No. 2" (or "Composition 99" or "Russian Waltz") one of the most famous Russian waltz was written by Dmitri Shostakovich in 1938 The first popularity of the work was brought by its sound in the Russian film by Mikhail Kalatozov "The First Echelon" in 1955 Only in 1988, "Waltz No. 2" was performed in the west, in London at the Barbican Hall. The waltz was most famous in the west after Stanley Kubrick's last film, Eyes Wide Shut in 1999.
5 years ago, I graduated as a medical doctor under the melodies of this waltz. My mother, father, and big brother were all there for me in solidarity, and they were perhaps the happiest I have ever seen them in my life. I believe it was the only time that they didn't argue about anything, and it was the only time when I felt at peace and comfort with my family, instead of being afraid and paranoid that they would fight at any given moment's notice. It felt like my success was the reason that stopped them from strife, and ever since then I feel like I am working hard in life to stop this relentless tide. Back then, it was the best time of my life. Those moments are dust now, and life is bleakier than ever. But *this*. This remains, in my mind, in my heart and in my soul. Thank you Shostakovich. May God bless the very ground you lie in.

You need to go to another planet. I was in Maastricht this past summer for a concert, and it can only be described as one of the most enjoyable moments in my life. You can go somewhere else on the internet to listen to the waltz if you don't want to see people having the best times of their lives.

Thats unfortunate, I have been in holy Christian cities in Palestine and all over the Middle East with a neutral social democratic political organization and we have been welcomed gratefully by both Jews and Palestinians. I don't know how it looks in other parts of Europe but in Sweden where we have many refugees mostly muslims. They work hard and pay taxes to our welfare state. There are statistics that immigrants are not over represented in criminal activity like rape f.eg. But I apologize on behalf of my culture, religion and ethnicity.

Why would anyone listen to today "crap" when this beutiful music still can be heard! This is indeed the music that lifts a person's soul. Thank you to my Romanian husband that introduced me to what true Music is. A comopser that has forever been impressed in my soul and heart. My husband passed recently, and I love him for introducing me to this beautiful music.
I've been to twice to his concerts in Maastricht, and each time has been a most memorable experience. I only hope that at my age, 74, I'll be able to go again, and perhaps experience "The Second Waltz".

@@fairminded3305 , все же мы не ценим себя.Хотя скорее,сказывается то,что мы долгое время сидели за занавесом и сейчас не очень многие могут себе позволить путешествовать.Получает удовольствие от красоты весь Мир.В знаменитом фильме"С широко открытыми глазами"Кубрика с Томом Крузом и Николь Кидман используется музыка этого вальса.Фильм интересен,но депрессивен,хотя поставлен круто и сценография богата.Посмотрев один раз,остается неприятный осадок расчеловечивания.А в нашем фильме про комсомол,для которого и был написан этот чудесный вальс-пусть бедно,но духоподъемно и весело.Но мы не ценим свое.Нас тянет к тому,что запретно,порочно,но красиво блестит,даже,если под этой маской скрыт дьявол.Такова натура человека.
This man and his organization bring beutiful music to life every time. The people in his audience always have a good time with smiling and dancing - everyone getting along and look as if no stress or presure. The one thing all of us have in common with everyone else no matter the country is music - good music. The music talks to us, helps us remember and serves as a calming effect. Never forget the music.
Truly an amazing performance and come to think that when this piece was released in 1938 by Dimitri Shostakovich that it was almost lost forever because of the effects of WWII.. then in 1999 someone found the piece and showed the public true passionate music. To quote the great Ludwig van Beethoven To miss a note is insignificant but to play without passion is inexcusable..
It happened because of Shostakovich did not value this waltz at all. He believed it was too simple for him. Shostakovich composed Second Waltz not as a result of own wish - just somebody asked him to do that. So he kept the paper in his archive of drafts.
