During a game in 1985, Larry Bird was knocking on the door of a quadruple-double at the end of the 3rd quarter, with 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 steals. Bird sat out the fourth quarter, as the Celtics led 90-66 after the third quarter and won the game 110-94. When asked by reporters if he actually wanted to play in the 4th quarter to get the quadruple double, Bird said "What for? I already did enough damage." Talk about a contrast.
+forchamps Not really. MJ was known to go the scorer's table to check his stats. Moses Malone was accused of missing shots on purpose so he could get his own rebound. Wilt Chamberlain one season decided he was gonna lead the NBA in assists.
+viperxy87 Actually that wasn't Wilt's decision; the coach told him to pass more if he wants to win so he started getting some ridiculous 25 point 25 rebound 10 assist ganes
Sachin Johri Nope, IT was Wilt Chamberlain idea to lead the league in assists because people were saying that he wasn't able to pass. So, he would try to be involved in every half court plays; yelled at his teammates when they missed shots [because he wouldn't gather the assist]; and refused to pass the ball to Chet Walker particularly because he enjoyed dribbling the ball before shooting... which of course took away his assist : books.google.ca/books?id=SVrOwbqMmvMC&pg=PA192&lpg=PA192&dq=admit+it+cat+that+were+a+much+better+club+with+you+feeding+us+part+of+the+time&source=bl&ots=zt_yC0Z5e3&sig=3h528nhaB16wK20x0OcLDtnIMMU&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjN_6f01LbRAhWm8YMKHfk-BCEQ6AEIGjAA#v=onepage&q=admit%20it%20cat%20that%20were%20a%20much%20better%20club%20with%20you%20feeding%20us%20part%20of%20the%20time&f=true
or when you get stuck with 9 assists and the AI just sticks to all your teammates like glue and they stand in the corner. but give you a wide open shot. smh. then when you call for a pick they switch early and then cheese you with the deflections/steals if you try the suicide pass to get that 10th assist. it's a struggle.
SuperCheeesy Can you write coherent English? No, that's what I thought... but seriously lol why are you so salty? I'm not criticising him, but given that his assist average over his career is only 1.4 it's obviously noticeable if he suddenly gets 13.
agreed. Last year I averaged a quadruple double. 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 25 points, and 10 Turnovers. LMAO Every possession needed to be either a play made by me or me scoring. Lol
Jacob Pollard yes! Its so bad when theres like ten seconds left and you have nine assists. You get the rebound, pass to one of your guys on the fast break, you think you have it.... But then he pulls up for a three and misses😂😭😭😭
As a Wiz fan this video never failed to make me laugh back in the day, today I come back to reminisce on the dark days 😂 since Brodie broke the all time triple double record in our jersey last night 🔥
On February 18, 1985, Bird registered a triple double (30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) and also had 9 steals in three quarters of play against the Utah Jazz. Bird sat out the fourth quarter, as the Celtics led 90-66 after the third quarter and won the game 110-94. When asked by reporters if he actually wanted to play in the 4th quarter to get the quadruple double, Bird said “What for? I already did enough damage to them.”
This was just uncomfortable to watch. If he was lighthearted about it, that would have been fine. But he was really annoyed at his teammate for getting that rebound. Joke about it in the locker room to him, like, "You owe me a drink for taking my triple double away." But to make a show about it on the court was just bad.
He was light-hearted about it. He was laughing the whole time. He still wanted it though; nothing wrong with that. But begging for the rebound then running down the court to intentionally miss was really embarrassing and hilarious, I can't hate on him for that; triple doubles are pretty sweet
Do you know how basketball works man? A rebound is when you or the opponent misses a shot that touches the rim, not getting blocked and re-catching it, nice try lmao.
Okay, maybe not, but in most cases it does, or else that's a 24 sec violation. "Rebounds are credited after any missed shot, including air balls." don't see no block shots shit there, and who the fuck is tryna start shit? YOU replied to a comment 6 months after, so you don't start shit, come on man.
Larry Bird was having one hell of a game against the Utah Jazz on February 18, 1985. After three quarters, the Boston Celtics were up 90-66 and Bird already had a triple-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. With the Celtics holding a comfortable lead, Larry Legend sat out the entire fourth quarter, even though he was one steal short of a quadruple-double. After the game, Bird was asked if he wanted to play and try to get that 10th steal. Bird said, “What for? I already did enough damage to them.” 'Nuff said.
@@JohnJohn-fm2uw You're the stupidest person. You wouldn't even make a water boy or a mop boy in today's game... blame your parents for not having a reliable brain....lol
you know, if you look at the related videos, you see javale mcgee tried to do the same thing. then you remember arenas and the gun incident. this comes to the conclusion: much respect to the wizards for being the most storied franchise for the most boneheaded players
Andrey Blatche is a great big man he can handle the ball like small forward and small guard, and he also big treat in out side and inside this man is so awesome
@ldc62 but he's not just going for stats, he didn't go into the game looking for a triple double. he saw that the game was essentially over and he realized he was 1 rebound away, don't take away from an amazing individual performance just because he wanted one rebound to get a triple double, something not many players ever achieve.
Gotta remember there's promotion bonus with contracts of certain accomplishments . For a guy like Blatche, he probably coulda got a 20k bonus for a triple double bc the likely hood of him getting one is like James harden going for 75pts in a game. Meaning it can happen, but unlikely.
In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads to a score by field goal, meaning that he or she was "assisting" in the basket. He simply did this 13 times.
Look when Martin takes the rebound away from Blatche, the two dudes in the in the front row by the Spalding sign below the basket are cracking up!! hahaha
@crissfoo96 when lebron gets a triple double, he doesn't play for the triple double, he just plays his game and if he earns it legitimately then he goes home happy. to sum it up: 1:43-1:47
if mcgee is still on the wizards team, and there happens to be one night that both mcgee and blatche are 1 rebound away from a triple double with 30 sec left in the game. some one pull up a jumper, we might see mcgee and blatche box each others out. that would be epic!
ohh my!! this made me remember Lebron James when he pulled Anderson Varejao for his triple-double rebound. He pulled the guy and flied to the ball but when he got it he was out of bounce and he ended the game with 9 rebounds lol.
Triple double is rare, it is the biggest achievements in career life in the nba....no wonder players were happy if they get this numbers, try again blatche . C wade video was so disaappointed to his teammates felicio in bulls time almost only for 1 big rebound to have triple double .
guys lighten up. blatche, who is a center, had 13 assist and a rebound shy of a triple-double. there's nothing selfish about that. realizing that the wizards` season was practically over, he's just really eager to get his trip-double that he got lost in the moment. they still got the W. if he got 13 asissts, there's no way he can be selfish.
blatche is really a big baby. my boy punked the shit outta him after a game in high school against his henninger h.s. team, and he thickened out lot since high school lol he was mad puny lol
so what, that's friggin entertaining to watch at the end of a game that doesn't matter. All athletes care about their stats, some just aren't as good as most at hiding it
andray blatche isnt a bad player, he was just with a bad team and dumb staffs, last year he was doing good and learning to play smart on the nets. now they have kg to teach blache in scrimmages hes gonna be good in the future
I dont know, but maybe, they have a part of there contract that if they get 3ple double, they'll get additional bonus? Here in our local basketball league, every players gets bonus everytime they were selected BPG, different bonus for individual awards, and bonus whenever the whole team surpasses quarters, semis, finals and champs
