+Edward Powell He delivers every time and as you said, he never fails to bring classical music to the masses, mixed with numerous other genres and Waltzes. He truly is the Waltz King just like Strauss before him.

I've been to the Maastricht gig and the variation on the crowed you see there is mind blowing, from Football (soccer) Hooligan type guys to elderly couples and young parents with their kids to early 20's couples on a first date. Simply amazing and I hope to go to a gig again.

My mother often listened to classical music during the day - local station - the likes of Richard Clayderman and traditional orchestras. This music was lost on me as I left home and tried on music my peers were listening to (which wasn't allowed at home). Then as I was going through a marriage breakdown, and interacting with folk who were into classical, I started listening again. Started recognizing some of the artists my mother listened to and checking them out more closely as well as others. Now that I have them, I'll keep them. :D

It seems he's not had support from traditional classical artists who feel he is disrespectful to the original Composers. But Andre has made a name for himself and so has his orchestra. They are genuine and happy - who wouldn't want that?

YOU don't know him that well, doesn't mean others don't either.

Unknown to the masses is what they obviously meant. Because that is the truth about Andre Rieu. Sad really since the man deserves so much more exposure and respect.

The man has concerts all over the world, EVERY year. Playing for thousands and thousands of people. People that aren't interested won't know him. The same with me not knowing maybe very famous pop artists who give concerts all over the world, but that doesn't mean they're unknown. They're just unknown to me.

I think they say that because he doesn't play classical music in the traditional way. I've read some comments from some of the traditional classical tastes. They feel Andre is disrespectful to the Great Classical Composers and especially to Johann Straus. I think he takes what those Composers gave the world and fills those pieces with joy and happiness. Were those composers alive today, I like to speculate they'd experience more joy and happiness as well. People don't have to sit in their seats with their backs straight and chins forward, not moving a muscle. People can laugh and dance and make merry. That's how life should be. And after a long evening of good clean revelry, they go home and have the most wonderful sleep ever. This helps people live longer, healthier lives and if not, at least with more joy.

You are technically correct. I live in the US and when I say I'm originally from The Netherlands most people don't know what country that is. Say you're from Holland and they do know that one a bit more often. I think most Europeans have trouble naming all 27 member states of the EU. More than 40% of Americans can't write down all 50 states within 20 minutes. Technically Holland are only the two biggest (population wise) provinces but 'Holland' has become synonym for The Netherlands especially outside Europe. For example: 'We' enter the Olympics under the name The Netherlands, but what is the name of the house were all medals are celebrated? 'Hup Holland Hup' and ''Viva Hollandia' are classical Dutch soccer anthems., not to mention 'De hollandse school' (Dutch school), a term to describe a certain playing style of soccer Only a few months ago the Dutch Tourism Board stopped using holland.com as its primary website for their campaigns.. Due to the pandemic you most likely don't go on vacation outside The Netherlands. But next time you go to a foreign land, listen how often people claim to be from Holland instead of The Netherlands..
