Andre The Giant & Ted Dibiase & Virgil | Interview (03-25-1988) CBS This Morning Andre The Giant, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, & Virgil join the CBS This Morning to promote Wrestlemania IV on March 25th,1988.
@@CP-kb1du By this point Andre's back and knees were giving him a lot of problems. His weight didn't help matters but there were also injuries. So he self medicated by drinking.
I can bet you your bottom dollar that interviewer got slayed by the giant later that night ahaha she was all google eyed she wanted her some Andre ,poor Ted and Virgil got lost 100%
Even as a heel Andre was as genuine out of the ring than he was a babyface. A little known secret that the million dollar man Ted Dibeasi even as a heel went out of his way and did more charity for kids than most superstars. He also was a genuine dude out of the ring.
I saw Andre wrestle many times as a kid growing up and it was so fascinating to see him live and in action. He was a true superstar and I really miss that golden age of wrestling, which today's wrestling can't compete with the wrestling or wrestlers of yesterday. That time and era is gone now, but I thank the many men and women in wrestling back then that really entertained me, my friends, and family it was a special time that I will never ever forget.
Pro wrestlers back then were so unique. They carried themselves like total stars because that's what they were. They got it done in the ring and in a setting like this. I love it!
That was interesting. Ted really trying to own his character, but towards the end that lady wanted to have nothing to do with anyone but Andre. I don't know if it's.. the high amount of kindness and confidence and being very unique that drew her to him or.. if part of the equation was realizing he wasn't going to be around very long and wanting to show him kindness worth remembering.
Andre the Giant was an international celebrity. Understand, even people who didn't really watch wrestling...they knew who Andre was. He made TV/movie appearances and that size and stature absolutely elevated his persona.
I dunno but there's somethin about Andre that women cant resist :) I've been an Andrenatics since I was small btw Ted Dibiase has a very nice speakin voice huh
imagine him narratig a wildlife program.. "The lion sneaks up on the wildebeast... her partner too.. they form a pincer movement, they strike, and... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA"
Andre really dose seem like a down to earth guy, dont think he liked playing the heel at all you can c it in his facial expressions cause for 15 yrs he had played the beloved babyface which deep down he really was, RIP Andre from Ireland 🇨🇮
Personally, I thought that he was horrible! He didn't even give Virgil, his Bodyguard, any lee-way to talk. I know that Ted Dibiase was a heel, and that, back then, Wrestlers weren't supposed to break Kayfabe, but this was wayyyyy over the line! I was glad to see Virgil break free from Ted Dibiase's grasp in 1991. He and Roddy Piper gave Ted Dibiase FITS after that!
Heel Wrestlers were very friendly/warm individuals as this interview shows here. Ted Debiase shows that he says Everybodys got a price! than chuckles showing the importance of laughing at your yourself but never at other people.
Other than their run with the championship belt from February 5, 1988 (The Main Event) to March 27, 1988 (Wrestlemania 4), neither Andre The Giant nor The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase have *_Never, even one time_* held the belt in the *WWF/WWE* It's a damn shame if I do say so myself. They were both 2 of the absolute *_BEST_* Villains in *WWE* history. Hands down. In fact, I believe they were both in the Top 2 of Best Villains Ever in WWE. Not sure who I'd put as #1, but they both deserve it.
If the job of a villain is to make you want to see them lose, then Flair or Piper have to be #1 for me. This whole angle with Andre never made sense because they acknowledged that the referee for the February 5 match was an imposter. So if he wasn't a real referee then his decision shouldn't have counted.
Andre is having trouble playing the heel here I remember his appearance on Regis and Kathie Lee just before WM 3 his heart was a lot more into it then... I think Andre was hoping for a face turn shortly after WM 4 unfortunately Vince decided to keep him heel a few more years and really damage his legacy something Andre never forgave him for
@@rrt1592 your wrong Andre was very bitter towards Vince he felt that Vince disrespected him and pushed him to the side once he got sick that is why Andre left the WWF and wrestled his last match in Japan and also made an appearance in WCW... Your clearly drinking the Vince kool aid and believing everything he says but there are numerous stories out there from various people in the know that claim otherwise
The fallout between vince and Andre came in 91 when Andre wanted to return to the ring and Vince didn’t want fans to see him in the condition he was in
@@Matt198d I think it was more then that Andre was hurting for money and he took it as a Vince was taking money out of his pocket plus fans had already seen him in that condition because he was walking around on crutches for a few months something I hated Vince for doing to him that ended up being the last memories I had of him
@@johnmullens2857Or worst. It depends on how you look at it. He definitely did his job well. He truly seemed like too much of a Tyrant to me! I always hated his character. It was very cruel. However, as I said, he did his job well, and that's all you can really expect out of the man.
@@kazallroberts Yep. That's one reason (The Main Reason), for instance, that "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair was a Heel Wrestler for over half of his career. The Heels get paid more money, because of the absolute hate that they have to deal with, on an almost daily basis.
Does anybody know if it bothered Andre when they talked about his disorder and asked him to do these things like put his hand up next to theirs? It bothers me when they ask him to do those things. He is more than his disability
But didn't Andre have a point, story line wise? Only thing he really wanted was the WWF Championship. And just because he challenged Hogan for it, that makes him a bad guy?
Choking the guy from behind, slamming his head in to the table at the Main Event contract signing at the first Royal Rumble, ripping his crucifix off...it wasn't just wanting the belt.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 Desperate times call for desperate measures. He wanted his attention and boy did he get it! 😁 It's not like Hogan was any better; throwing tantrums when someone like Big Bossman or Sid Justice eliminate him from the Rumble, thus sabotaging their participation by eliminating them from the outside, beating the Undertaker with a foreign object (urn.), the list goes on. 😄
First time I ever saw this interview. Tough sell to go on TV for this type of interview when you are in a big time heel role before a big show. Dibiase played his part well. Only problem with the buying of the title angle is once Andre was awarded the belt and gave it to Dibiase they came up with all that legal crapola, declared the belt vacant, and used that to set up Wrestlemania 4. The intelligent fan figures they knew all that legal crap to begin with that no wrestler could actually ever buy the title outright. So it was strung along and then duh. Certainly everything is predetermined of course but a decent angle that actually was derailed by a technicality. Took the belt off Hogan without damaging his credibility. Turned out though to be the start of Savage's push with the belt which he deserved. Dibiase deserved a run for at least a few months with the belt also. He of course had that million dollar belt a little later. Biggest difference with wrestling today as opposed to back then, besides the popularity certainly, is the fact you didn't need to put a belt on a guy (or gal) to push them or feature them. You had favorites who didn't need to wear the belt or any belt. Other titles still meant something too. IC, Tag belts, now they seriously pale in comparison. The split brand had one advantage in that with multiple championship belts, World/WWE/Universal your main event at Wrestlemania wasn't predetermined after the Royal Rumble. Bottom line, when you over promote the top belt you under promote the lesser titles and the rest of the business or company as a whole.
The whole thing never made sense to me, even as a kid. They said the belt couldn't be returned to hogan because he was pinned. But if the guy refereeing the match wasn't a real referee, then his officiating means nothing and the match never legally took place.
Man, lol, hairstyles back in the late 80's were *_WACK!_* The female host has a crazy mullet/bowl cut that's gray on the top and brown in the back. WTF? LMAO!! 🤣 🤣
4:32 Kathleen Sullivan is 5'10 1/2. She said she has high heels on, so add three inches. This makes her 6'1 1/2". Let's say Andre has 1 1/2 inch heels. So take that away from her height. So it's like a 6 foot person barefoot is standing next to a barefoot Andre. She comes up to his shoulders. This makes Andre 7'2" at least.
@@nissimlevy3762 ? Andre is standing closer to the camera and wearing heels lifts Andre was never 7ft not even close to 7'2 in the 70's Vince had him stand on a Keg of Beer to enhance his size height ...
4:52 No it's not because you challenged him Andre, it's the way you went about it. You could have come to The Hulkster like a man and said "Hulk i am undefeated for 15 years i would really appreciate it if you gave me a Title Match" but no he had to go behind Hulk's back like a coward and hire The Weasel Bobby Heenan as his manager, a man who is Hell Bent on making Hulk's life miserable, then he ripped the shirt off his chest like a real coward....YES IT IS STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT
everyone is fucking racist..... stop with playing that card now, its old, blacks prefer to be amongst blacks, spanish amongst spanish, people like to be around their own kind, if that makes you a racist then god damn, no one should ever be forced to live amongst people they dont want to, what the fuck kind of freedom is that???
He lived a stressful life around a lot of people, he probably talked out of character a few times due to stress, alcohol and nervousness, everyone does that from time to time. The problem is that when you are a celebrity, you speak wrongly 1 time and it's a global news story the next day. So you have to cut these people a little slack.
@@thecageofinsanity.6968 Kayfabe is the code word, for staying in character. It wasn't his money, it was the WWE's money he spent. He was never that way, in real life. He was playing a role, Vinny Mac told him to play.
