Recorded 21 July 2019 in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Andrea Motis (trumpet, vocals); Warren Vaché (trumpet); Earl Sauls (bass); Steve Ash (piano); Tim Pleasant (drums).
Well, that was a treat. Nice to see that Ms. Motis can, like a real traveling pro, cut it outside her usual home setting, holding her own against a master of modern-mainstream trumpet playing. Sorry I missed her when she was in NYC.
So sorry I missed this--but in my own defense, I hadn't known about Andrea until about a month ago, and now I'm hooked! Watch her during the piano solo. You can see jazz flowing in and out of her. What a revelation she is. And Warren Vache has been around, so I'm wondering what his first impression of her was. And what venue was this? Looks like someone's living room!
ANDREA O’DAY!!! This is Incredible. The Great Anita O’Day is looking down from Heaven with a big smile on her face! ANITA’s Honeysuckle: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BFwVtlc6CGE.html . ANDREA, you are an UNBELIEVABLE Trumpet & Sax player (what a Sound and God-given improvisational Genius you have on both, which blows my mind, plus the most perfect & driving Lead Alto section work ever - AND, you make it look Sooooo Easy!), but when you Sing, to me you are ANITA O’DAY II. “Honeysuckle Rose” - Anita always said it was her most requested and favorite song. GO ANDREA = ANITA II !!
