Leica recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of their factory in Porto, Portugal, and I had the privilege to attend this momentous celebration. In addition, Leica always asks if anyone is interested in interviewing any of the executives in the company, and of course, I said yes. This is my first of two interviews with Andrea Pacella, the Vice President of Global Marketing and Communication at Leica Camera AG. Like many Leica employees, Andrea is passionate about photography and the Leica brand. I think you'll enjoy this interview because he's basically one of us. He's someone who loves photography and Leica, and that combination eventually led him to work for this iconic brand. Please enjoy this interview with Andrea. A special thanks to Kiran Karnani and Leica Camera USA for the invitation to this special event!

It's a good interview and quite interesting but I found the constantly repeated piece of music very annoying. The video would have been better without it.

What a wonderful interview. I also enjoyed High Brownstone’s interview of Mr. Pacella (coinciding with the reissue of the M6). Mr. Pacella’s personal story and manner of speaking are interesting and one can see how he meshes so well with Leica as a company. I liked his references to other special objects (pens, motorbikes, watches) and to the roles of purposeful limitations and the inspiration from interacting with special tools and objects. Personally, I feel similarly about motorcycles (Ducati, in particular, which has a similar passion behind the brand and which also inspires a passionate following). The Leica cameras not only impart a sense of history and of hand built quality, but also remind one of the history of the company and of the story of Leica and the Leitz family up to and during the war. Thank you for sharing this interesting and inspiring video.

Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing! I actually visited the Ducati factory in Italy this summer with the BCIT Summer Field School. We had a full tour of the factory, but no pictures or video. Visiting the Ducati factory actually reminded me of the Leica factory. Similar mindset. I have one more video with Andrea coming up!

Looking forward to seeing that video! I had a tour of the factory and museum last summer (2022) along with a track day at Misano and a ride through the countryside. The track day included riding the current World Superbike. What a blast!

Very good interview and thanks for sharing. It´s good to see a executive person at Leica showing a R8 camera, who is the better SLR made by Leica and one of the best ever made! Sad is the position take by Leica who simple abandon R users and loyal costumers and no longer support R cameras and lenses. Many R cameras and lenses are out there in working and using conditions, I understand that for electronics cameras is hard to find and maintain spare parts, but for the mechanics like R6 or R6.2 I can´t understand. The same for the lenses, Leica should be able to maintain support on lenses, like cleaning and maintenance jobs, also the same for R bodys. Nobody buy a Leica for after a failure gain a paper weight, people buy Leica because the company had gained in the passed a image of support old stuff and the costumers, but nowadays Leica is like the others brands and only see money...Sad!

The Leica R8 is an SLR. Why is he holding it like an M at the beginning?

I'm not sure if that is intended to be a joke, but I think my original comment is correct.@@AIP404

15 minute story proving purchase bias . the camera almost never is the thing that makes you better . thats why you can buy the most expensive one in the world and still take shit photos

For me, digital killed the Leica dream. Now, their cameras are expensive paperweights. The mechanical Leica was something for a lifetime, as expensive as it was, I could dream. But the digital Leica cameras are daydreams that don’t last, intended for dentists.. @@RemmyMusic1
