During a 1990 interview with CNN's Larry King, comedian Andrew "Dice" Clay talks about his new movie, finding stardom and fires back at critics who say his act is too vulgar.
I had hair like Dice when I was young. Now it is grey/white.....but I like it.....just the fact I still have hair. Yes, he is not only still alive in 2019 but has his own show called DICE....and has grey hair....a little shorter. By the way, I'll look like my profile picture in the Spirit world when I go over, so I use it to be recognized. And Dice will look like he does in this video in the Spirit world.
Not us Black folks. People seem to forget we have our own icons. People seem to only consider us when it comes to being annoyed or in disagreement about something.
Dice’s satirical act of an Italian goomba dealing with feminism in the late 80s threatened the agenda - which is why they had to attack him. They never figured out Dice was making fun of the Italian goomba just as much as he was feminism.
Right, but he’s a Jew, and it’s offensive to Italians. Honestly his narcissism got him booted. He should have separated the act from the man. He didn’t. He does here some spots but then he goes back to it
Trump also told King to his face live on his show to back up a bit cause he had terrible breath. Must've been a well known thing about Larry if everyone was knocking him for it. Shit made me laugh my ass off.
It’s one of the most underrated films of all time. It is as iconic, if not more, than Rocky and Gone With the Wind. It’s one of the most action-packed action films of all time, only rivaled by juggernaut films like Double Dragon or New Jack City. I’m amazed it was even released theatrically. The levels of intense, adrenaline-filled action are unmatched in any modern film, save for 3:10 to Yuma or Double Jeopardy. A truly timeless experience.
Diceman was/is a great character because Andrew is a fine character actor. If the things that came out of his mouth on stage were his personal views, I could see people being upset. But he is playing a character. I saw him many years ago at Pips in Sheepshead Bay. This was before he was a household name. And we spoke with him after the show. He was congenial, he was intelligent, soft spoken, and a very nice guy. People just get too uptight because they’re ignorant and he’s so good at what he does that they buy it. But that’s not Andrew Silverstein. It’s the Diceman that you’re buying. Andrew is simply an entertainer/comedian.
Dice made millions of dollars from performing toilet humour. He did NOT have the talent to write and perform intelligent comedy like the amazing George Carlin. But Dice had amazing delivery and stage presence. But he was the worst joke writer ever. He simply relied on the low intelligence of most of the American public who will laugh at anything. George Carlin actually elevated the level of intelligence of ANY audience with his stand up shows. Dice formula was to work with the various audiences at their own low level of intelligence.
Oh fuck, right!? I personally never cared for him (I was too young to even know of him when he was big but have seen vignettes as I got older) but I just didn't tune in. That's how I handle things I do not like or think "too vulgar, over the top, what have you," and its honestly the best response a person can give if they do not care for something/someone. I wouldn't nor do I expect everyone to share my views however or like/not like what I do. To each their own. But yah, now boy I don't even know how a comedy club would be able to even book his act now. I get the feeling club owners would get to skiddish to even have him on.
Things have been getting banned for decades. Comedians used to be arrested and put in jail for words. Yeah today is overly sensitive, but you have to admit, you could say a lot more stuff on TV today than you could 10-20 years ago. TV and films are much less restrictive than they were in 1990. Just don't post any racist crap on Twitter...
It's weird how you don't really see stand up comedians in gimmick anymore. Back in the 80s there were so many of them, and the general public had a total blurred line when it came to the character and the person behind the character
Amazing he went from that bomb Ford Fairlaine to being in a Woody Allen movie, and A Star is Born, both were Oscar nominated and he received great critical reviews.
The Dice rules. I am lucky enough to own a DVD of Ford Fairlane and I pull it out of mothballs every once in a while and introduce others to the fabulous Diceman.
I always enjoyed the Letterman show but Dices comments about not letting new comic talent through was probably correct. Thinking Bill Hicks in particular
WOW I just found this, I was fake Stallone at 17:24. Far from my best Stallone voice but it worked. I also fooled Mike Tyson on the radio when I worked at KROQ in Los Angeles in 1987. My name is Mark Silverman.
Damn he was dead on about Letterman. Proof is that he cut out Bill Hicks spot, but later after he died had his mom on and showed the peice, which is good I guess but Dice was right about that.
Fun fact, he started around the same time as Jerry Seinfeld at the same clubs but as we know Jerry is a billionaire while Dice plays dive bars in the Midwest 😂😂🤣
@@TheKingInTheNorth713 your and you’re You’re is a contraction of the phrase you are. Your is a possessive adjective used to show ownership. Fun fact YOU’RE not too bright 😉
I remember when this aired. I tried to call just to show my support but couldn't get through. I could never understand why he got hammered by people for his "vulgarity " when Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and most black comedians were doing the same type of act and nobody said anything. Probably felt threatened by him.
not to split hairs, but it wasn't just black comedians doing similar vulgarities in comedy, Rodney Dangerfield did similar. just not to the same extent. George Carlin did it in a more critique like manner of how stupid society was/is growing. even Robin Williams pulled out a few racy and vulgar jokes that made seasoned comics when he was starting out go "what the hell drugs am i not getting?" Dice was just the one who youths flocked to because he wasn't this old dude, he was loud, colorful, was into the same musics they were, and he was basically unfiltered masculinity who took no shit from anyone. and women loved him because there was no illusions, yeah he was a vulgar pig, very little was left to imagine and you knew where you stood. hell i was a kid at the height of his fam in the 80's-90's. now did i find his jokes funny, yeah, did i emulate him, no, frankly i more or less felt kinship with the goonies, the monster squad and whatnot because they were kids like me, not a perverse Elvis clone, which i thought he was, but i still laughed at his jokes.... pretty much why i laugh at how easily offended people are now days and ponder if someone let young dice loose on this society, what shit storms would he stirr up, it'd be funny is all i know
He at some point just became dice basically although he can play other acting roles. But I think the real Andrew is gone, I haven’t seen him in decades
Big dragon fly 🪰 flew by ...flew close to my open driver's window 🪟 what was he thinking, as he flew back, and forth? dragon 🐉 fly fascinating creature ...not to be afraid of ...respected ...they will read 📚 your energy ⚡
Little do these women know, Dice is a hopeless romantic that just wants to make people laugh 24/7. It's sad how people treated him but i guess he should expect it
I always liked Dice and the movie Ford Fairlane. I never knew the film bombed! But I always believed that he was putting on an "act", no matter how offensive he was. He was funny!
Rodney Dangerfield name always pops up with so many comedians. He really got alot of comedians careers going. What a legendary man, and he's still getting no respect lol.... R.I.P. Rodney Dangerfield, you were unique in every way.
what a world, nobody cares would you say or do, until you have money and fame, then everyone gets jealous and tries to ruin you and everything you built. Actors/ Actresses/ Politicians/ Comedians/ Rock stars.
My Name Is Nobody Because he is trying to start a conflict. I predicted this and published nearly two years ago that Obama would help Clinton steal the election and if she failed to win, Obama would start a conflict with Russia and blame them for it.
I think Dice was taken too seriously. I came out gay right around the time Dice man commeth was on HBO. I laughed my ass off, even at the gay jokes, because i didn't take it seriously.
