I’ll add, in relation to political correctness neurosis creep.... An absurdly high number of women/gender studies professors, in several countries, are English majors and linguists. They like to pretend they are scientists, behavioral psychologists, criminologists, Jesus Christ himself and more but they are linguists and English majors. This is why they have an obsession with language, and particularly with changing it while trying to make people jump through their ever changing hoops. Many are authoritarian, many are openly anti free speech for everyone but themselves and I think some get a high from convincing people to self censor or handing down mandate. Of course part of it is an authoritarian generational whim. Of course we are going to see this progress into bad territory. Some have spent decades watching people ignore there many mandates, and with each passing generation the demand to enforce them by harsher means has grown. George Carlin was spot on with his Soft Language stand up routine and his further expansion on political correctness being *fascism disguised as manners. George had been watching it progressively get worse for years and described his observation decades ago.

Andrew is the antidote to Owen Jones. Thank God for Andrew

I would disagree with part of Andrews take on political correctness, though I do agree that many got hysterical about the war on Christmas, etc. I am an American and not sure what it was like in the U.K in the 1990s, but political correctness was already out of hand here. Some on the left would argue that it was out of hand, in relation to specific topics and among specific groups, in the 1960s & 1970s. Most agree with politeness in public but political correctness has a creep aspect. It didn’t suddenly get worse. Some authoritarians who have a neurosis when it comes to dictating language have been intentionally progressing it in every direction imaginable for years. A good example in the U.S from the 1990s is the term “Native American”. One college professor proclaimed that no one was allowed to say Indian anymore, and declared that it had been replaced with Native American because it was offensive and geographically incorrect. This is not a social contract. It’s a mandate. She most certainly did not poll the members of every tribe before making her decree. She based it on conversations with those in her bubble. Many were upset. Lakota activists said their murdered ancestors were called Indians, they were put on Indian reservations and they were going to remain Indians until they die, like it or not. I live on the Cherokee boundaries and this sentiment was shared here. The sign still says Welcome to the Cherokee Indian Reservation and the license plates say, “American Indian”. Locals still use Indian regularly. Another example that illustrates how hard it can be to have a social contract is in relation to LGBT (mostly G in my example) terminology. I was born in the mid 1970s. When I was growing up, and when gay men were most certainly treated worse than they are today, people flung Queer as an insult rather often. The word became despised and was replaced with Gay. Millennials come along and proclaim gay offensive because people point at inanimate objects and say, “that’s gay”. Some get rather upset with others who still use the term, and demand that they use queer which is offensive to people in older generations. Every generation is going to have its preferred terms, due to actual oppression, hurt feelings or a neurotic drive to control language. These terms will never be agreed on. The neurosis was always there but the drive to destroy your life if you do not bow down to the younger generations whims has increased. The generation after them will do the same. One of the best examples of a neurotic drive to control language is found among feminists when discussing stay at home moms. Housewife was deemed offensive/oppressive and changed to homemaker. Homemaker was deemed offensive/oppressive and changed to domestic engineer or goddess. Domestic engineer was deemed dehumanizing and too stupid to breathe by many and changed to stay at home mom. Millennials have deemed SHAM oppressive/offensive and changed it to primary care provider. Some wanted to reclaim homemaker, invalidating the whole neurotic circle jerk, but they were shut down. Now, we have not seen people destroyed for using any of these words/terms, and every person will continue using what they know, but what we have seen is a handful of childless feminists and working feminist mothers changing the terms used often for generations on end. Stay at home moms are not the ones doing this. People who have a problem with stay at home moms and working mothers (note that has never changed) or problems with their own guilt have been behind it. Both of these groups claim there is something wrong with women who stay home with their children and think changing the name will somehow change the personal problems they have with it. I could provide examples with numerous topics. Negro, colored, black, African American, black, people of color, black.... We have seen elderly people mobbed for saying colored, which was the PC term of their time, by those who now say people of color. It’s the same thing! We are talking about a highly moronic portion of a generation that demanded people stop saying “diabetic” on multiple college campuses in 2010, and replace it with “people with diabetes”. They wrote it into campus policies and wanted people to be punished. No sane human being can expect people to keep up with the language whims of every generation

I really have trouble believing that "Baa baa rainbow sheep" is as innocent as Andrew tries to make it sound.

i'm glad to have "woke" to this show....

I'm actually wondering why your channel isn't bigger. You constantly challenge thought and opinions and seem to do it in such an effortless way (I do realise that a lot of hard work goes into producing these videos) and your guests (a few of whom I disagree politically with) are the calibre of people I think I would get on well with. There are a few things I disagree with which Andrew brought up, one of which is the redistribution of wealth, and the other things are raising tax for the rich. Where would he see the cap? 80%? 90%? Lastly, you owe it to yourself to make your way in life. I don't think anyone(especially the government) owes anyone a living. On the topic of stand up comedians, I was brought up on Eddie Murphy(Delirious,Raw) Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Dave Allen to name a few but recently I really enjoyed Jim Jeffries. Bought quite a bit of merch, went to see him live more than once and generally thought he was hilarious. The point I'm trying to make is that when Andrew Doyle says there are 'Woke' stand ups that used to be mainstream until just recently he's absolutely telling the truth. I watched Jim Jeffries compare Donald Trump to Adolph Hitler in a serious discussion(he wasn't joking. Check out his Bill Maher appearance). Now, I've got no real love for Donald Trump. I think he's a bit of a dick if I'm being honest. But to compare him to someone that nonchalantly conscripted millions of people to die was the final straw for me. Keep up the brilliant work guys, I'm going to share your videos as much as I can. Any chance of seeing you in a forum type debate in front of paying public I think would be a great idea. "Woke comedy" is an oxymoron.

Nearly a year on, it's great to see that the tide is turning against woke culture. Sure, there have been ugly clashes, but I've started to notice more and more ordinary people speaking out against the prevailing trends which can only be a good thing. Any chance of you lads getting Kenan Malik on the show to discuss how the left botched 'The Satanic Verses' controversy?

Online debates are great - not on Twitter though. What you need is a 2-4hr Livestream with chatbox, 2 people debating, 1 moderator who only steps in when there's shouting/people talking over one another's points.

Great interview. It's interesting how often the research that found that those on the left don't actually understand the values/views of the right is demonstrated. I don't think Andrew or the boys understand the right really. Left/Right doesn't mean much anyway, but that's why the language fails so easily. Values are often actually shared, not exclusive to left or right, it's just the approach that fundamentally differs.

I am so pleased with the attempt by this man to address the bias in mainstream comedy. I have commented on many you tubes about the lack of "alternative" material as intellectual laziness. Today it seems that all you need to say is "the government is SXXT" and you will get an laugh and an award. Not good enough.

Growing up in the 70's, the Left were on the fringe. They were out there. they were anti establishment. I loved the left wing comedians. They were radical, Now they are the establishment.

Center right in the EU means something very different from Thatcher. This reflects the difference in how left/right wing are used in different parts of the world.

I love this episode and find it as nourishing as a warm soup in winter... Comedy is and always has been a free speech vehicle and a litmus paper for progressive thought. Back in the day, The Conmedy Store trampled all over the mother in law 1970s institutional comedy that was the stuff of pier shows and Saturday Night British Variety. Hopefully Comedy Unleashed will do the same with the WOKE movement, which is literally begging for an amusing acronym BTW....hopefully, lockdown end will see a surge of folks visiting this club...forn the uninitiated, the 24 hour Jewish bagel places with their Salt Beef offerings are something to surely reinvigorate a sense of normality.

When Andrew talks about this system collapsing, and says 'its not a matter of if, but a matter of when', it reminds me of what Keynes wrote about financial markets - the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. These people can stay woke longer than you can keep saying what you think.

Interesting talking point regarding taking libel action against false claims and allegations made about a person and their character, something that I’ve been saying for a couple of years. I agree that it should be a civil action and not involving the State as the State will always come down hard in favour with the side that controls the narrative in terms of public discourse.

My mum worked in a preschool and the Baa baa ___ sheep song was changed a number of times for PC reasons. If you don’t think so you don’t know anyone working in it (one of them was fucking woolly sheep - what the hell are teachers trying to teach kids by changing that?)

It's because people are more self important they like thinking they are more superior . It's all about them . People need to have more empathy and see the bigger picture . But they won't . Interesting how this left wing comic doesn’t like being called a fascist just for trying to embrace free this is what a whole load of people who are incredibly moderate have been dealing with for an age. Too many people are branded far right - lazy. I totally agree that Woke is now the Establishment. It is all about power.

This "reading of the opponent's mind" thing comes from critical theory and the desctruction of authorial intent there. People go into the uni and learn the type of analysis there, and then apply it to their personal lives.

22:50 - It's great when someone assumes you hold a position you don't and makes an argument which you 100% agree thinking they have got you beat. Recently a guy named Israel Folau has been sacked from the Australian Rugby Union Team for a meme and a quote from the Bible which referenced homosexuals going to hell. A person I was talking iwth just assumed I was a devout Christian who believed he should have the right to express his religious beliefs because then I could be openly "hateful" or whatever term they use. They said "what about in Catholic schools when unwed women become pregnant and get sacked from the school, they wouldn't be able to sack them any more. Or they wouldn't be able to sack teachers for being gay". When you say "that sounds great" they are completely unable to wrap their head around your position because they sincerely believe it's either their position or the very worst position in opposition to them.
